15 Apr 1969TL;DR: In this paper, a ferrous metal sheet having an r in the range of 2.5 to 3.3 and an ASTM grain size of 6.0 to 9.0 is produced by hot rolling to intermediate gauge strip ferrous metals containing 0.15 to 0.30 percent titanium and small amounts of oxygen, carbon and nitrogen.
Abstract: A ferrous metal sheet having an r in the range of 2.5 to 3.3 and an ASTM grain size of 6.0 to 9.0 is produced by hot rolling to intermediate gauge strip ferrous metal containing 0.15 to 0.30 wt. percent titanium and small amounts of oxygen, carbon and nitrogen, the weight ratio of the titanium to the sum of the carbon and nitrogen being a minimum of 7:1. The steel is finished hot, coiled cold, cold reduced and batch annealed at temperatures approaching the alpha-gamma transformation temperature.

27 May 1976TL;DR: In this article, the operator update program calculates speed and draft coefficients which are used to update the basic computer schedule calculations so as to accommodate the abnormal mill conditions, such as load distribution switches, to minimize operator confusion and simplify operator panel layout.
Abstract: Rolling mill computer control system includes an operator update program which accepts requests from a mill operator to modify computer setups for speed and screwdown presets. When under computer control and abnormal mill conditions arise, the computer programs will accept operator updates from the same presetting devices which are used in manual operation. The operator update program calculates speed and draft coefficients which are used to update the basic computer schedule calculations so as to accommodate the abnormal mill conditions. Additional presetting devices, such as load distribution switches, are eliminated so as to minimize operator confusion and simplify operator panel layout.

TL;DR: In this article, a cylindrical column of liquid sodium in mineral oil was shaped under an electromagnetic field, and the equilibrium shape of the meniscus was experimentally measured and compared with the predicted results from a mathematical model.
Abstract: The meniscus of a cylindrical column of liquid sodium in mineral oil was shaped under an electromagnetic field. The electromagnetic field was generated by an alternating current flowing through a coil surrounding the liquid metal column. The equilibrium shape of the meniscus, under the influence of electromagnetic field, was experimentally measured and compared with the predicted results from the mathematical model. The experimental technique used to measure the meniscus shape of the liquid metal column and the development of the mathematical model are presented. The validity of the mathematical model to predict the meniscus shapes is also discussed.

04 Sep 1970TL;DR: An efficient long-stroke pumping apparatus for oil wells is described in this article, which comprises the combination of a low and relatively inexpensive supporting structure, an upright stroking wheel or sheave mounted thereon and driven near the ground level, and below-ground counterweight and traveling-seal means for actuating a pumping string.
Abstract: An efficient long-stroke pumping apparatus for oil wells. This apparatus comprises the combination of a low and relatively inexpensive supporting structure, an upright stroking wheel or sheave mounted thereon and driven near the ground level, and below-ground counterweight and traveling-seal means for actuating a pumping string. Said seal means reciprocate vertically in a polished pipe fixed within the well tubing, and provide protection against corrosive well fluids to the pumping cable actuated by the stroking wheel.

08 Feb 1971TL;DR: In this article, the rate of change of strip accumulated in a looping tower is detected by measuring the rotation rate of a torque motor arranged to provide a continuous tension in the strip as it passes through the tower.
Abstract: Tracking of strip evenly over the rolls of a looping tower is facilitated by detecting changes in the amount of strip accumulated in the looping tower and adjusting the tension in the strip proportionally to the rate of change in the amount of strip accumulated in the looping tower. The rate of change of strip so accumulated is preferably detected by measuring the rate of rotation of a torque motor arranged to provide a continuous tension in the strip as it passes through the looping tower.
