TL;DR: A successfully piloted method for facilitating rapid psychometric assessments of three simulation evaluation instruments: the Lasater Clinical Judgment Rubric, the Seattle University Evaluation Tool, and the Creighton‐Simulation Evaluation Instrument™ is described.
Abstract: Aim. This article describes a successfully piloted method for facilitating rapid psychometric assessments of three simulation evaluation instruments: the Lasater Clinical Judgment Rubric, the Seattle University Evaluation Tool, and the Creighton-Simulation Evaluation InstrumentTM. Background. To provide valid and reliable evaluations of student performance in simulation activities, it is important to assess the psychometric properties of evaluation instruments. Method. This novel method incorporates the use of a database of validated, video-archived simulations depicting nursing students performing at varying levels of proficiency. A widely dispersed sample of 29 raters viewed and scored multiple scenarios over a six-week period. Analyses are described including inter- and intrarater reliability, internal consistency, and validity assessments. Results and Conclusion. Descriptive and inferential statistics supported the validity of the leveled scenarios. The inter- and intrarater reliability and internal c...

TL;DR: Basic science and clinical studies concerning physeal arrest secondary to ACL reconstruction tunnels are examined, and there is evidence that ACL reconstruction can be performed in select skeletally immature patients, but the risk of growth plate complications must be considered.
Abstract: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are recognised with greater frequency in children and adolescents. Non-operative treatment of ACL injuries in children may lead to knee instability and secondary injuries, especially in those who return to sports. ACL reconstruction is controversial in skeletally immature patients because of potential damage to the proximal tibial and distal femoral physes, which may lead to premature arrest and/or leg length discrepancies. This paper reviews studies of ACL injuries in children and adolescents, and examines basic science and clinical studies concerning physeal arrest secondary to ACL reconstruction tunnels. Some animal studies support the conclusion that ACL reconstructions in children have the potential to cause growth disturbances, and there are reports of growth plate complications due to ACL reconstruction in skeletally immature patients. There is evidence that ACL reconstruction can be performed in select skeletally immature patients, but the risk of growth plate complications must be considered.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate how industrial buyers align their relationships with suppliers to the contextual characteristics of the purchase and find that patterns of purchasing strategy are evidenced by the alignment of three fundamental domains: the firm's strategic intent for a given purchase, the environment in which a purchase is made, and the type of relationship adopted by industrial buying firms with their selected suppliers.
Abstract: In this paper, we investigate how industrial buyers align their relationships with suppliers to the contextual characteristics of the purchase. We propose that patterns of purchasing strategy are evidenced, in part, by the alignment of three fundamental domains: the firm’s strategic intent for a given purchase, the environment in which a purchase is made, and the type of relationship adopted by industrial buying firms with their selected suppliers. Using a cluster analysis on data collected from 226 buyers in a sample of U.S. industrial firms, we identified four primary types of purchases. Our results provide a partial empirical validation of the purchasing types presented in purchasing portfolio models. However, we identify a fourth type, the adversarial purchase, which cannot be mapped to existing portfolio models. We also found evidence that the dimensions of portfolio models may not be as independent as commonly assumed. We discuss the implications of our findings for practitioners and for research.

TL;DR: In this paper, a Bayesian geostatistical inverse approach is used to estimate a unified set of hydrogeologic parameters using the Bayesian geo-temporal inverse approach, which is used for flow path delineation on an isthmus between two lakes.
Abstract: [1] Flow path delineation is a valuable tool for interpreting the subsurface hydrogeochemical environment. Different types of data, such as groundwater flow and transport, inform different aspects of hydrogeologic parameter values (hydraulic conductivity in this case) which, in turn, determine flow paths. This work combines flow and transport information to estimate a unified set of hydrogeologic parameters using the Bayesian geostatistical inverse approach. Parameter flexibility is allowed by using a highly parameterized approach with the level of complexity informed by the data. Despite the effort to adhere to the ideal of minimal a priori structure imposed on the problem, extreme contrasts in parameters can result in the need to censor correlation across hydrostratigraphic bounding surfaces. These partitions segregate parameters into facies associations. With an iterative approach in which partitions are based on inspection of initial estimates, flow path interpretation is progressively refined through the inclusion of more types of data. Head observations, stable oxygen isotopes (18O/16O ratios), and tritium are all used to progressively refine flow path delineation on an isthmus between two lakes in the Trout Lake watershed, northern Wisconsin, United States. Despite allowing significant parameter freedom by estimating many distributed parameter values, a smooth field is obtained.
