TL;DR: In this paper, the hydrodynamic equations which describe the radial solar wind expansion are linearized and specialized to treat corotating perturbations, and approximate solutions are found which are time stationary in the COROTATING reference frame.
Abstract: The hydrodynamic equations which describe the radial solar wind expansion are linearized and specialized to treat corotating perturbations. Approximate solutions are found which are time stationary in the corotating reference frame. The solutions predict the behavior of corotating structures for a given boundary condition close to the sun. In particular, the structure resulting from the interaction of fast and slow streams is described. Comparison with sector structure data shows reasonable qualitative and quantitative agreement.

TL;DR: The results suggest that Outward Bound is a desirable short-term means of promoting positive change in the social attitude and self-concept of male delinquents.
Abstract: The Jesness Inventory and 10 concept measures were administered to 60 male delinquents immediately before and after participation in an Outward Bound program. Significant changes were found on 6 Jesness Inventory Scales indicating more favorable social attitudes and evaluation of feelings. Significant improvements were also observed for the 3 concept measures “I am,” “I would like to be” and “Boys who don't get into trouble.” These results suggest that Outward Bound is a desirable short-term means of promoting positive change in the social attitude and self-concept of male delinquents.

TL;DR: This article found that the separate subtests of the Minnesota Tests of Creative Thinking probably share no more variance in common with each other than that which they also share with general intelligence, and found only partial support for this hypothesis with an American high school sample.
Abstract: Summary. Kogan and Wallach have argued that the separate subtests of the Minnesota Tests of Creative Thinking probably share no more variance in common with each other than that which they also share with general intelligence. Madaus found only partial support for this hypothesis with an American high school sample. This study tests the hypothesis using a sample of Irish public grammar school pupils; the results of this study are virtually the same as those found by Madaus. Two possible explanations for this similarity of findings across cultures are offered.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors suggest the need for a rather cautious interpretation of the Pennsylvania Project findings as they relate to the comparison of "audio-lingual" and "traditional" teaching methods.
Abstract: which suggest the need for a rather cautious interpretation of the Pennsylvania Project findings as they relate to the comparison of "audio-lingual" and "traditional" teaching methods. Many of the points raised-as, for example, the possible differences in teacher experience among the experimental groups-could be investigated using data which are probably already available in project files. Statistical re-analysis incorporating (as necessary) controls for teacher background and other variables discussed wou d appear quite feasible, as would the removal of pres nt covariate adjustments for mid-year achievement. The presentation of convincing evidence for the operational distinctiveness of the three teaching methods would probably be a more difficult undertaking, but even in the absence of the "hard" data that would have been provided by detailed classroom records, a more thoroughgoing description of classroom activities as perceived by the project coordinators would be of considerable value. Perhaps the Pennsylvania Project staff would be willing to address some of these procedural and analysis questions in a future document; the arduous activities already carried out and the great quantity of data assembled would appear to justify further analyses incorporating these and other comments by interested persons in the field.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors argue that official information campaigns often falter for two crucial reasons beyond resource scarcity, namely, those agencies disseminating information are often under pressure to curb the outflow of migrants from the Global South, and as a result, information provision has tended to be coloured by efforts to control or protect against forced migrants' movement or desires.
Abstract: While it is not uncommon for humanitarian organizations, such as the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), to implement information campaigns about forced migrant rights, the assistance available to them, and options for the future, these efforts often meet unintended consequences. Forced migrants have, at times, rejected, misinterpreted, and condemned the information they get from these sources. This paper argues that official information campaigns often falter for two crucial reasons beyond resource scarcity. First, those agencies disseminating information are often under pressure to curb the outflow of migrants from the Global South, and as a result, information provision has tended to be coloured by efforts to control or protect against forced migrants’ movement or desires. Second, these agencies do not typically consider or engage with migratory capital, including migrants’ informal networks for sharing knowledge about the migratory process. As a case study, this paper relies on qualitative interviews and focus groups with Iraqis displaced in Jordan to explore their lived experiences vis-a-vis both the official information from humanitarian agencies and their informal networks that are transnational in nature.

TL;DR: The family constellation was examined and it was found that delinquents coming from families where both parents were present had significantly lower recidivism rates than those from broken homes.
Abstract: Numerous studies have supported the conclusion that the absence of father in the home may adversely effect the personality development of the children. As part of a larger study (Kelly & Baer, 1968) concerning the effects of a shortterm program involving severe physical challenge on the subsequent recidivism of male adolescent delinquents, the family constellation was examined. Consistent with expectations, delinquents coming from families where both parents were present had significantly lower recidivism rates (7%) than those from broken homes (33% ). Since the father's absence is most frequently the case in broken homes, the age of the child when the father left the home was then examined. In Table 1 it may be seen that only 12% of the delinquents coming from homes where the father had not left subsequently recidivated, while 39%

TL;DR: In this article, a model of wave-mechanical, simple harmonic oscillators interacting through a scalar "action-at-a-distance" type of coupling was studied.
Abstract: We study a model one-dimensional theory of wave-mechanical, simple harmonic oscillators interacting through a scalar « action-at-a-distance » type of retarded coupling. The resulting nonlinear wave-mechanical theory is shown to contain the apparent effects of scalar « photons » independent of recourse to any « second-quantization » formalism. This is done by showing that the « measurement radiation » inherent in the theory is emitted and absorbed effectively in quanta of ħω, even though the electric interactions are classical in nature. Spontaneous transitions as well as induced transitions are properly accounted for, and if we treat an aggregate of oscillators in statistical equilibrium with each other, the corresponding « measurement radiation » observed by the K-th oscillator is distributed according to a formula similar to that of the Planck black-body radiation formula.

TL;DR: In this paper, a heuristic model for wave-mechanical hydrogen in which an ad hoc hidden-variable field λπ(x, t) is added into the conventional Schrodinger equation is discussed.
Abstract: We discuss solutions to a heuristic model for wave-mechanical hydrogen in which an ad hoc « hidden-variable » field λπ(x, t) is added into the conventional Schrodinger equation. The resulting equation is nonlinear in ψ(x, t) and has limit cyclic solutions which correspond to the conventional hydrogenic eigenfunctions. However, superpositions of eigenfunctions have the property that they collapse into pure eigenfunctions in a time τ LCT which can be arbitrarily adjusted according to the value of λ. The relationship of the model to that of the « reduction of the wave packet » is discussed.

TL;DR: I have selected for my topic, "The Changing Nature of Nursing Education," to discuss this subject within the framework of the position paper which defines the position of the American Nurses' Association regarding nursing education.
Abstract: I have selected for my topic, \"The Changing Nature of Nursing Education.\" I propose to discuss this subject within the framework of the position paper which, as you know, defines the position of the American Nurses' Association regarding nursing education. The paper, which was published in 1965, states that education for all who are licensed to practice nursing should take place in institutions of higher education. It maintains that minimum preparation at the present time should be: 1. Baccalaureate degree education in nursing for beginning professional nursing practice; 2. Associate degree education in nursing for beginning technical nursing practice; and 3. Short intensive pre-service programs in vocational education institutions for assistants in the health service occupatrons.' To say that the position paper is a controversial document is a gross understatement. I am addressing myself to the issues and questions that have been raised as a result of this official pronouncement. I believe it has important implications for all of nursing, and for all who are concerned with health services. It will inevitably affect our own future careers, and it will certainly have some impact on the delivery of nursing care in all agencies. By way of credentials and background, I think that I should tell you that I am a graduate of a diploma school program. My curiosity led me back to school to complete my college studies after a temporary interruption of a quarter of a century of work in occupational health. This was the happy realization of a long cherished dream, and may I say, at the risk of seeming to recruit, that the experience was as enjoyable as it was enriching. As you can readily see, I am far from being an expert in nursing education, and it would be presumptuous of me to attempt to defend or oppose the position paper. I have,

TL;DR: In an effort to go beyond simple description and to provide a more global explanation of premature school withdrawal, a number of theoretical approaches have been advanced, each having its own merits.
Abstract: It is not necessary to document the magnitude and seriousness of the high school dropout problem. For more than a decade now this problem has been one of major concern to education, govern ment, minority groups, and social scientists. It has been estimated that in the 1960's about one-third of American high school students have failed, or will fail, to graduate (S.M. Miller, et al 1964). If pressed, the layman often resorts to poverty and low intelligence as explanations of this phenomenon. The accumulated social science research does bear out his notions, but with certain important qualifications. There is, for example, considerable variability among the dropouts. Some middle class and some high I.Q. students do leave school early, and the majority of lower class and "low" I.Q. youth do in fact graduate. In an effort to go beyond simple description and to provide a more global explanation of premature school withdrawal a number of theoretical approaches have been advanced, each having its own merits. This paper attempts an appraisal and synthesis of two such approaches. The "family influence" approach is exemplified in the work of Cervantes (1965a; 1965b; 1965c) and Elder (1965). Following the lead of Hollingshead (1949), who first suggested that research should focus upon the student's family experience, Cervantes found the

TL;DR: Citizen participation is also suggested as a means for adjudicating value conflicts and also as a purposeful method for overcoming the “politics” of community decision-making.
Abstract: Traditional planning models which aim for comprehensiveness are examined and found to be misleading. Comprehensive planning is limited by the planner's knowledge and information sources, the influence of value premises, and the multiplicity of decision centers. Citizen participation is viewed as a further limitation upon rationality in the decision-making process. But citizen participation is also suggested as a means for adjudicating value conflicts and also as a purposeful method for overcoming the “politics” of community decision-making.
