TL;DR: Two multimethod studies indicate that AF is linked to heightened interoceptive sensitivity, and people who were more sensitive to their heartbeats emphasized feelings of activation and deactivation when reporting their experiences of emotion over time more than did those who were less sensitive.
Abstract: People differ in the extent to which they emphasize feelings of activation or deactivation in their verbal reports of experienced emotion, termed arousal focus (AF). Two multimethod studies indicate that AF is linked to heightened interoceptive sensitivity (as measured by performance on a heartbeat detection task). People who were more sensitive to their heartbeats emphasized feelings of activation and deactivation when reporting their experiences of emotion over time more than did those who were less sensitive. This relationship was not accounted for by several other variables, including simple language effects. Implications for the role of interoception in experienced emotion and the validity of self-reported emotion are discussed.

TL;DR: This paper is the first to analyze systematically user equilibrium, system optimum, and various pricing regimes for a simple network of routes in parallel for traffic congestion during the morning commute.
Abstract: Most theoretical studies of traffic congestion during the morning commute have been limited to one origin, one destination, and one route. This paper is the first to analyze systematically user equilibrium, system optimum, and various pricing regimes for a simple network of routes in parallel. Departure time and route decisions of commuters are assumed to be governed by the tradeoff between travel time and schedule delay (the difference between actual and desired arrival time). In equilibrium without tolls wasteful queuing occurs, although the numbers of drivers on each route is the same as in the system optimum. An optimal time-varying toll eliminates queuing without affecting route usage. Uniform and step tolls alter route usage, but only slightly. Step tolls generally yield much greater efficiency gains than uniform tolls because they reduce queuing by altering departure times.

TL;DR: For instance, this article found evidence that negative emotion enhances not only the subjective vividness of a memory but also the likelihood of remembering some (but not all) event details, suggesting that engagement of emotion-processing regions (particularly the amygdala and orbitofrontal cortex) relates to the encoding and retrieval of details intrinsically linked to negative items.
Abstract: There have been extensive discussions about whether emotional memories contain more accurate detail than nonemotional memories do, or whether individuals simply believe that they have remembered emotional experiences more accurately. I review evidence that negative emotion enhances not only the subjective vividness of a memory but also the likelihood of remembering some (but not all) event details. I then describe neuroimaging evidence suggesting that engagement of emotion-processing regions (particularly the amygdala and orbitofrontal cortex) relates to the encoding and retrieval of details intrinsically linked to negative items.

TL;DR: The new chiral bidentate N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligand can be used in the preparation of highly effective Ru- and Cu-based complexes that promote enantioselective olefin metathesis and allylic alkylations with scope that is improved from previously reported protocols.
Abstract: A new chiral bidentate N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligand has been designed and synthesized. The NHC ligand bears a chiral diamine backbone and an achiral biphenol group; upon metal complexation (derived from Ag(I), Ru(II), or Cu(II)), the diamine moiety induces >98% diastereoselectivity such that the biaryl unit coordinates to the metal center to afford the desired complex as a single atropisomer. Because the ligand does not require optically pure biaryl amino alcohols, its synthesis is significantly shorter and simpler than the related first generation ligands bearing a chiral binaphthyl-based amino alcohol. The chiral NHC ligand can be used in the preparation of highly effective Ru- and Cu-based complexes (prepared and used in situ from the Ag(I) carbene) that promote enantioselective olefin metathesis and allylic alkylations with scope that is improved from previously reported protocols. In many cases, transformations promoted by the chiral NHC-based complexes proceed with higher enantioselectivity and reactivity than was observed with previously reported complexes.

01 Aug 2000TL;DR: Experimental results demonstrate robust, real-time car detection and tracking over thousands of image frames.
Abstract: . A real-time vision system has been developed that analyzes color videos taken from a forward-looking video camera in a car driving on a highway. The system uses a combination of color, edge, and motion information to recognize and track the road boundaries, lane markings and other vehicles on the road. Cars are recognized by matching templates that are cropped from the input data online and by detecting highway scene features and evaluating how they relate to each other. Cars are also detected by temporal differencing and by tracking motion parameters that are typical for cars. The system recognizes and tracks road boundaries and lane markings using a recursive least-squares filter. Experimental results demonstrate robust, real-time car detection and tracking over thousands of image frames. The data includes video taken under difficult visibility conditions.
