TL;DR: Advanced structural ceramics are playing a key role in addressing these challenges in vehicle propulsion systems and will be a major source of inspiration for the next generation of autonomous vehicles.
Abstract: Humankind's aerospace aspirations are placing unprecedented demands on vehicle propulsion systems. Advanced structural ceramics are playing a key role in addressing these challenges.

TL;DR: In this paper, a general time-independent constitutive framework for crystals capable of crystallographic shearing is presented, where no restrictions are placed on their elasticity or on the amounts of slip.
Abstract: A general time-independent constitutive framework is constructed for crystals capable of crystallographic shearing. No restrictions are placed on their elasticity or on the amounts of slip. In deriving properly-objective relations due account is taken of the separate motions of the material and lattice. A precise specification of the structure of the flow rule leads to conditions for the existence of plastic potentials, as well as to an exact statement of the slip criterion required for normality of the plastic strain-increment in conjugate variables. Objective hardening laws are also examined and sufficiency conditions obtained for uniqueness of the slip magnitudes.

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that the correlation between the BH mass and its temperature, deduced from the energy spectrum of the decay products, can test Hawking's evaporation law and determine the number of large new dimensions and the scale of quantum gravity.
Abstract: If the scale of quantum gravity is near TeV, the CERN Large Hadron Collider will be producing one black hole (BH) about every second. The decays of the BHs into the final states with prompt, hard photons, electrons, or muons provide a clean signature with low background. The correlation between the BH mass and its temperature, deduced from the energy spectrum of the decay products, can test Hawking's evaporation law and determine the number of large new dimensions and the scale of quantum gravity.

TL;DR: The OMEGA investigation, on board the European Space Agency Mars Express mission, has identified and mapped mafic iron-bearing silicates of both the northern and southern crust, localized concentrations of hydrated phyllosilicates and sulfates but no carbonates, and ices and frosts with a water-ice composition of the north polar perennial cap.
Abstract: The Observatoire pour la Mineralogie, l'Eau, les Glaces, et l'Activite (OMEGA) investigation, on board the European Space Agency Mars Express mission, is mapping the surface composition of Mars at a 0.3- to 5-kilometer resolution by means of visible-near-infrared hyperspectral reflectance imagery. The data acquired during the first 9 months of the mission already reveal a diverse and complex surface mineralogy, offering key insights into the evolution of Mars. OMEGA has identified and mapped mafic iron-bearing silicates of both the northern and southern crust, localized concentrations of hydrated phyllosilicates and sulfates but no carbonates, and ices and frosts with a water-ice composition of the north polar perennial cap, as for the south cap, covered by a thin carbon dioxide-ice veneer.
