TL;DR: In this article, a convolutional neural network based open-source pipeline was developed for detecting ultrasonic, full-spectrum, search-phase calls produced by echolocating bats.
Abstract: Passive acoustic sensing has emerged as a powerful tool for quantifying anthropogenic impacts on biodiversity, especially for echolocating bat species. To better assess bat population trends there is a critical need for accurate, reliable, and open source tools that allow the detection and classification of bat calls in large collections of audio recordings. The majority of existing tools are commercial or have focused on the species classification task, neglecting the important problem of first localizing echolocation calls in audio which is particularly problematic in noisy recordings. We developed a convolutional neural network based open-source pipeline for detecting ultrasonic, full-spectrum, search-phase calls produced by echolocating bats. Our deep learning algorithms were trained on full-spectrum ultrasonic audio collected along road-transects across Europe and labelled by citizen scientists from www.batdetective.org. When compared to other existing algorithms and commercial systems, we show significantly higher detection performance of search-phase echolocation calls with our test sets. As an example application, we ran our detection pipeline on bat monitoring data collected over five years from Jersey (UK), and compared results to a widely-used commercial system. Our detection pipeline can be used for the automatic detection and monitoring of bat populations, and further facilitates their use as indicator species on a large scale. Our proposed pipeline makes only a small number of bat specific design decisions, and with appropriate training data it could be applied to detecting other species in audio. A crucial novelty of our work is showing that with careful, non-trivial, design and implementation considerations, state-of-the-art deep learning methods can be used for accurate and efficient monitoring in audio.

TL;DR: It was shown that the cultured cells had 15% clonogenic efficiency and could be induced to differentiate into adipogenic cells containing typical lipid-rich vacuoles and it can be speculated that these cells are engaged into the monthly restructuring and remodeling of human endometrium.
Abstract: Human endometrium is an object of extensive restructuring and remodeling during the female reproductive life and it is quite tempting to assume that these periodic changes happen with the participation of cells that should have the basic characteristics of multipotent cells. The aim of this study was to search for the presence of cells with plastic adherence, clonogenicity, and differentiation in human endometrium. To this end, human endometrial stromal cells were cultured in vitro for more than 15 passages. Flow cytometry analysis of the cultured cells showed that they were positive for CD29, CD73 and CD90, which are considered to be the markers of cells with mesenchymal origin. The cells were negative for the hematopoietic cell markers (CD45, CD34, CD14, CD3, CD19, CD16/56, and HLA-DR). Further, it was shown that the cultured cells had 15% clonogenic efficiency and could be induced to differentiate into adipogenic cells containing typical lipid-rich vacuoles. These results demonstrate that the human endometrium contains a low number of cells with the characteristics of endometrial stromal stem/progenitor cells, which seem to belong to the family of the mesenchymal stem cells. It can be speculated that these cells are engaged into the monthly restructuring and remodeling of human endometrium.

TL;DR: The enol imine ⇄ enaminone tautomerization constants, KT, and thermodynamic parameters, ΔHT and ΔST, of 1-hydroxy-2-naphthaldehyde Schiff bases are determined by UV/vis spectroscopy as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: The enol imine ⇄ enaminone tautomerization constants, KT, and thermodynamic parameters, ΔHT and ΔST, of 1-hydroxy-2-naphthaldehyde Schiff bases are determined by UV/vis spectroscopy. Polar solvents shift the equilibrium toward the quinone form (for the unsubstituted derivative 1c, KT = 0.20 (cyclohexane) and KT = 1.49 (ethanol)). Both donor (MeO, NMe2) and acceptor (CN, NO2) substituents lead to a decreased KT independent of solvent polarity. In apolar solvents, for all derivatives 1a−1e, the enol imine ⇄ enaminone equilibria are endergonic but exothermic. Linear solvation energy relationships allow extrapolation of ΔGT to the gas phase. Density functional theory calculations (B3LYP/6-311+G**) yield good agreement with these extrapolated ΔGT values. Solvent effects on 1c are also successfully reproduced by the calculations. Geometric (O···N distance) and energetic criteria (conformer energy differences, homodesmotic reactions) establish the importance of intramolecular hydrogen bonding for the tautomerism...

TL;DR: In this paper, a search for additional neutral Higgs bosons in the τ τ final state in proton-proton collisions at the LHC was performed in the context of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model (MSSM), using the data collected with the CMS detector in 2016 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1.
Abstract: A search is presented for additional neutral Higgs bosons in the τ τ final state in proton-proton collisions at the LHC. The search is performed in the context of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model (MSSM), using the data collected with the CMS detector in 2016 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. To enhance the sensitivity to neutral MSSM Higgs bosons, the search includes production of the Higgs boson in association with b quarks. No significant deviation above the expected background is observed. Model-independent limits at 95% confidence level (CL) are set on the product of the branching fraction for the decay into τ leptons and the cross section for the production via gluon fusion or in association with b quarks. These limits range from 18 pb at 90 GeV to 3.5 fb at 3.2 TeV for gluon fusion and from 15 pb (at 90 GeV) to 2.5 fb (at 3.2 TeV) for production in association with b quarks, assuming a narrow width resonance. In the m

scenario these limits translate into a 95% CL exclusion of tan β > 6 for neutral Higgs boson masses below 250 GeV, where tan β is the ratio of the vacuum expectation values of the neutral components of the two Higgs doublets. The 95% CL exclusion contour reaches 1.6 TeV for tan β = 60.
