At least one mediator compound may also be used. The modified pigments can be used in applications such as inkjet ink applications.

Also described is a method of forming a sputtering target assembly such that a gap is formed between the sputtering target and the backing plate. Also described is a method of forming a sputtering target assembly providing a mechanism to prevent unintended sputtering into the backing plate.

The methods further comprises a particle size reduction step. These steps can occur in either order. The organic colorant comprises at least one organic species having at least one ester group. Modified organic colorants and inkjet ink compositions are also disclosed.

Abstract: The invention provides a process for producing fumed metal oxide particles comprising providing a stream of a liquid feedstock comprising a volatizable, non-halogenated metal oxide precursor, providing a stream of a combustion gas having a linear velocity sufficient to atomize and combust or pyrolyze the liquid feedstock, and injecting the stream of the liquid feedstock into the stream of combustion gas to form a reaction mixture such that the liquid feedstock is atomized and subjected to a sufficient temperature and residence time in the combination gas stream for fumed metal oxide particles to form before the combustion gas temperature is reduced below the solidifying temperature of the metal oxide particle. The invention further provides fumed silica particles having a relatively small aggregate size and/or narrow aggregate size distribution.

Abstract: A method of forming a sputtering target is described that involves bonding a backing plate onto a casement having one or more recesses that contain target material to form a bonded target. During the bonding process, the bonded target is optionally vacuum sealed within the recess. The bonded target is then optionally annealed while under vacuum to form an annealed sputtering target. The sputtering target can then be retrieved by removing at least a portion of the casement from the sputtering target in one or several steps. Also described is a casement having one or more recesses containing bonded target material that is optionally vacuum sealed in the casement. The casement, as well as the backing plate that is optionally bonded onto the casement, are further described as well as other options and methods.

Abstract: The invention provides a method and an apparatus for filling a vessel having an internal volume with particulate matter. The method generally comprises the steps of providing a vessel having a length, width, and an internal volume, providing a supply of particulate matter, filling at least a portion of the internal volume of the vessel with the particulate matter, and repeating the aforementioned steps until the internal volume of the vessel has been filled with the desired amount of particulate matter. While the vessel is being filled with the particulate matter, the vessel also is subjected to a vibratory motion or at least one tamping motion, or the static electricity produced upon filling the vessel with the particulate matter is discharged. The apparatus generally comprises a carrier assembly, a container, and at least one of an actuating assembly, a vibrator assembly, and a static discharge assembly.

The method also includes recovering the metallic element from the reaction product. To remove the metallic element from the reaction product, the method can involve crushing the reaction product to form a crushed material and dissolving the crushed material in a solvent to remove the precipitates, thereby leaving a sulfate solution containing the metallic element. The method is particularly directed to the recovery of cesium from silicate- or aluminosilicate-based ore like pollucite via clinker formation by reacting the ore at elevated temperature in the presence of a metal sulfate salt.

Abstract: Methods to predict the rheological properties of composition comprising a filler in a matrix are described. The present invention further involves determining the difference between the work of cohesion and the work of adhesion for a filler and a matrix in order to quantitatively predict the rheological properties of the system, such as yield point. The ability to predict such properties has numerous advantages. The present invention further relates to a rheological master curve and a method to produce the curve which permits one to predict a rheological property of a composition comprising a filler in a matrix based on the particular polymer used and the particular filler used. Also disclosed is a method of method of choosing a filler to achieve a desired rheological property using the rheological master curve described herein.

Abstract: To address the standarization issues of perceptually based image quality for printing systems, ISO/IEC JTC1/SC28, the standarization committee for office equipment charactered the W1.1 project with the responsibiltiy of drafting a proposal for an international standard for the evaluation of printed image quality. One of the W1.1 task teams is charactered to address the issue of 'Gloss and Gloss Uniformity". This paper summarizes the current status and technical progress of this ad hoc team in 2003.
