TL;DR: In this paper, the inventive method of producing silicon comprises reacting gaseous trichlorosilane with hydrogen to deposit silicon onto a substrate and to produce silicon tetrachloride by product.
Abstract: The inventive method of producing silicon comprises reacting gaseous trichlorosilane with hydrogen to deposit silicon onto a substrate and to produce silicon tetrachloride by product, vaporizing the silicon tetrachloride by-product to form gaseous silicon tetrachloride, converting the gaseous silicon tetrachloride too finely divided silicon, forming a silicon melt by melting the finely divided silicon, and forming solid silicon from the silicon melt.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a carbon black having a combination of properties with values in ranges selected to promote high conductivity, high hydrophobicity, and reduced outgassing in lead acid batteries while maintaining high charge acceptance and cycleability.
Abstract: A carbon black having a combination of properties with values in ranges selected to promote high conductivity, high hydrophobicity, and reduced outgassing in lead acid batteries while maintaining high charge acceptance and cycleability. The carbon black has a Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area ranging from 100 m2/g to 1100 m2/g combined with one or more properties, e.g., a surface energy (SE) of 10 mJ/m2 or less, and/or a Raman microcrystalline planar size (La) of at least 22 A, e.g., ranging from 22 A to 50 A. In some cases, the carbon black has a statistical thickness surface area (STSA) of at least 100 m2/g, e.g., ranging from 100 m2/g to 600 m2/g.

TL;DR: In this paper, a silane modified metal oxide (SMO) is defined as a metal oxide having attached at least one silyl group, and the silyls group can be a branched or unbranched, substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl group.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a composition comprising a silane modified metal oxide, wherein the silane modified metal oxide comprises a metal oxide having attached at least one silyl group, and wherein the silyl group comprises at least one —SO 3 − M + , —OSO 3 − M + , —SSO 3 − M + , —NHSO 3 − M + , —NR′SO 3 − M + , —NR′ 3 + A − , or -Q + A − group. R′, which can be the same or different, is a branched or unbranched, substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl group or a substituted or unsubstituted aryl, heteroaryl, alkylaryl; or arylalkyl group, M + is a cationic counterion, and A − is a anionic counterion. The present invention further relates to the silane modified metal oxide used in the disclosed chemical mechanical polishing composition.
