TL;DR: In this paper, the distribution of carbon black in NR/SBR blends was determined through the analysis of bound rubber, and the distribution was found to be very different from the previously studied SBR/BR compounds: these differences were assigned to mutual insolubility of the two polymers and a very high molecular weight of NR.
Abstract: The distribution of carbon black in NR/SBR blends was determined through the analysis of bound rubber. The NR/SBR blends were found to be very different from the previously studied SBR/BR compounds: these differences were assigned to mutual insolubility of the two polymers and a very high molecular weight of NR. In NR/SBR blends, it was found that changes in molecular weight of the polymer has no effect on the carbon black distribution in the blend. While the “activity” of carbon black did not affect the distribution, the loading of the black in NR decreased linearly with increasing surface area of the black. Approximately 35% of normal tread blacks (surface area 80–100 m2/g) was found in the NR phase. However, the bond between NR and carbon black is quite weak, and black continues to migrate into the SBR phase on prolonged mixing or during blending of NR and SBR masterbatches.

30 Dec 1999TL;DR: In this paper, an adsorbent composition containing a modified carbonaceous material capable of adsorbing an adorbate is described, wherein at least one organic group is attached to the carbonaceous materials.
Abstract: An adsorbent composition containing a modified carbonaceous material capable of adsorbing an adsorbate is disclosed, wherein at least one organic group is attached to the carbonaceous material. Furthermore, methods to increase the adsorption capacity of a carbonaceous material capable of adsorbing an adsorbate and methods to adsorb an adsorbate using the above-described adsorbent composition are also disclosed.

20 Oct 2005TL;DR: In this paper, a method of preparing hydrophobic silica particles was proposed, which consisted of an aqueous colloidal silica dispersion comprising about 5-70 wt.% of the particles having an average overall particle size of about 10-1000 nm.
Abstract: The invention provides a method of preparing hydrophobic silica particles comprising (a) providing an aqueous colloidal silica dispersion comprising about 5-70 wt.% of silica particles having an average overall particle size of about 10-1000 nm, wherein the silica particles comprise surface silanol groups, (b) combining the silica dispersion with about 3-75 µmole/m2 (based on the BET surface area of the silica) of a silyl amine treating agent and optionally with other ingredients to provide a reaction mixture, wherein the reaction mixture has a pH of about 7 or more, and comprises no more than about 50 wt.% of an organic solvent, and (c) drying the dispersion to provide hydrophobic silica particles. The invention further provides a method of preparing a toner composition comprising combining the hydrophobic silica particles as recited above with toner particles to provide a toner composition.

05 Aug 2002TL;DR: In this paper, carbon composite electrocatalyst powders have a well-controlled microstructure and morphology, and the method includes forming the particles from an aerosol of precursors by heating the aerosol to a relatively low temperature.
Abstract: Electrocatalyst powders and methods for producing electrocatalyst powders, such as carbon composite electrocatalyst powders. The powders have a well-controlled microstructure and morphology. The method includes forming the particles from an aerosol of precursors by heating the aerosol to a relatively low temperature, such as not greater than about 400° C.
