TL;DR: Experience with a maximal treadmill stress testing procedure which is relatively safe, simple, and reproducible is reported, and sixty-three per cent of those with ischemic S-T segments did not experience pain of any type.
Abstract: Experience with a maximal treadmill stress testing procedure which is relatively safe, simple, and reproducible is reported. It has been used in normal persons and cardiac patients with ages ranging from 7 to 83 years. There have been no deaths in our total experience of 4,028 maximal capacity stress tests. Maximal capacity is predicted by the patient's peak predicted pulse rate. Sixty-three per cent of those with ischemic S-T segments did not experience pain of any type.

TL;DR: In this paper, a single gate field effect transistor with an isolating mesa formed from a layer of semi-conductor material provided on a substrate surface and which exhibits bulk negative resistance instabilities above a critical electric field strength is described.
Abstract: A single gate field-effect transistor including a semi-insulating substrate for providing a one-sided device geometry, an isolating mesa formed from a layer of semi-conductor material provided on a substrate surface and which exhibits bulk negative resistance instabilities above a critical electric field strength, an extended gate structure provided in a gate region of the mesa, source and drain structures provided on the mesa at opposite sides of the gate structure, and electrical leads connected respectively to the gate, source and drain structures. The process for making the transistor, a multichannel (interdigitated structure) version, and a closed geometry (without mesa) version are also detailed.

TL;DR: Treating friendship formation as a subclass of interpersonal attraction, this paper suggests the relevant dependent variables and definitional elements in friendship states and presents a conceptual guide to models of friendship formation.
Abstract: attraction, this paper suggests the relevant dependent variables and definitional elements in friendship states and presents a conceptual guide ro models of friendship formation. Two dimensions considered crucial for the friendship state are (1) commitment or loyalty which may be viewed as a continuum of resistance to dissolution of the relationship and (2) mutual desire to explore intra-individual behaviors as well as vital aspects of the relationship. Variables considered relevant to the second dimension include: (a) a tendency to accept .aspects of the negative self-concept of the other, (b) a willingness to risk selfdisclosure, (c) an attempt mutually to fulfill needs, and (d) a mutual modification of consrructs, attitudes, and values. Within the general area of interpersonal relations and group behavior, friendship formation focuses on select dynamics and antecedents of dyadic attraction. Importance of physical and social proximity is recognized. Four models are presented as all inclusive, but not mutually exclusive: (1) incremental, (2) shared stress, (3) perceived similarity, and (4) perceived need complementarity.

TL;DR: In this paper, a subsurface valve is used to control the flow of fluid in the bore of the well tubing, where the operator is maintained outside the bore and the plug is normally in a position offset from the bore.
Abstract: A subsurface valve to control the flow of fluid in the bore of the well tubing. The valve has an operator which responds to control line pressure to cause a plug to seat in the bore tubing and prevent flow therethrough. The operator is maintained outside the bore and the plug is normally in a position offset from the bore. One form of the invention includes a movable sleeve for preventing movement of the plug toward seating position.

TL;DR: A line card circuit for a key telephone system which system includes a subscriber line comprising a pair of line conductors interconnecting a central office with a subscriber station set is described in this paper.
Abstract: A line card circuit for a key telephone system which system includes a subscriber line comprising a pair of line conductors interconnecting a central office with a subscriber station set. The line card circuit has sensing means which are responsive to ringing signals in the line conductors to initiate local signaling indicative of the presence of an incoming call. Means are provided to assure that the sensing means is nonresponsive to noise transients. Means are further provided responsive to the operation of the sensing means to maintain said local signaling for a predetermined period. Additional means are provided to rapidly switch the associated line into a ''''hold'''' condition when required which rapid switching assures that associated PBX or central office equipment will not receive a premature line release indication. Means are further provided to perform all the necessary switching and supervisory functions required by the associated line.

TL;DR: A tubular body for use in a well has a downward facing seat engaged by a ball which moves upward out of an inclined pocket on one side of the body. as mentioned in this paper The ball is lifted to contact the seat by aspirator action upon excessive rate of flow through the passage.
Abstract: A tubular body for use in a well has a downward facing seat engaged by a ball which moves upward out of an inclined pocket on one side of the body. An offset axial flow passage on the other side of the body communicates with a chamber between the pocket and the seat, so that the ball is lifted to contact the seat by aspirator action upon excessive rate of flow through the passage. A sleeve encircling a portion of the body forms an end wall of the inclined pocket and seal means between the body and the sleeve above and below the pocket prevent leakage. Latches on spring fingers on the body hold the device in position within a well pipe.

TL;DR: The initial article in this issue describes current problems associated with drug therapy in hospitals and the many components required for clinical pharmaceutical services to serve patients, physicians and hospital personnel.
Abstract: What is clinical pharmacy? How is a clinical service established? Cost of service? Benefits to the patients, pharmacists, physician, nurse? Why unit dose drug distribution? Need for pharmacy supportive personnel? Patient drug monitoring service? Drug information services? Effective com-munications with the medical staff? These questions and others will be discussed in this series of articles. Experiences gained by the author from practicing in the patient care area and managing a clinical service will be the basis for the material presented. The initial article in this issue describes current problems associated with drug therapy in hospitals. The second article will discuss the clinical pharmacy concept. Succeeding articles will present the many components required for clinical pharmaceutical services to serve patients, physicians and hospital personnel.

TL;DR: In this article, a study was conducted to determine whether endogenous release of plasma cortisol during or after induced hypoglycemia would have any appreciable influence on the concomitant gastric acid response over a 4-hr period.
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to determine whether endogenous release of plasma cortisol during or after induced hypoglycemia would have any appreciable influence on the concomitant gastric acid response over a 4-hr period. No such influence was demonstrated. A significant difference in plasma cortisol response was observed between insulin and tolbutamide, the latter evoking a much smaller and less frequent cortisol response. This study does not support the thesis that a delayed gastric acid response following hypoglycemia is due to an adreno-cortisol influence. The overall implication is that a short-acting stress would not facilitate peptic ulcer formation through a pituitary-adreno-cortical mechanism on gastric acid secretion. However, these findings do not exclude more remote influences of adreno-cortical hormones upon parietal cells.
