TL;DR: The presence of aromatase in radial glia of the zebra finch brain provides a mechanism of estrogen delivery to postmitotic cells and may be a key feature in the repair of the vertebrate brain following neural injury.
Abstract: Estrogens have neurotrophic and neuroprotective properties. The synthesis of estrogen occurs via the expression of aromatase. Previous studies have shown that injury to the vertebrate brain results in a rapid and dramatic up-regulation of aromatase expression in astrocytes around the lesion. As part of experiments examining injury-induced glial aromatization, we identified aromatase in radial glia of the zebra finch brain. Adult female zebra finches received a penetrating injury to the right hippocampus. Twenty-four hours after lesioning, birds were administered bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) and sacrificed 2 hours, 1 day, or 7 days later. We determined the distribution of aromatase and BrdU labeling by using immunocytochemistry. Radial aromatase was localized to cells lining the lateral ventricle adjacent to the lesioned hippocampus. Injury also induced a dramatic accumulation of newly generated cells labeled with BrdU around the lesion. BrdU labeling was strongly associated with aromatase-positive radial fibers, suggesting the migration of newly generated cells along these fibers. In the songbird brain, estrogen supports neuronal recruitment and promotes the survival and addition of new neurons. The presence of aromatase in radial glia provides a mechanism of estrogen delivery to postmitotic cells. Radial aromatization may be a key feature in the repair of the vertebrate brain following neural injury. J. Comp. Neurol. 475:261–269, 2004. © 2004 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

TL;DR: In this article, a method for online modification, submission and approval processing of a future payment request to afford a user the ability to renegotiate established loan agreement debt terms in which network communications are established between a user, such as a debtor, and a server is presented.
Abstract: A method for the online modification, submission and approval processing of a future payment request to afford a user the ability to renegotiate established loan agreement debt terms in which network communications are established between a user, such as a debtor, and a server is presented. The method comprises receiving information, at the server, regarding the loan agreement debt terms, presenting received information to a debtor, providing an interactive environment enabling a debtor to modify existing terms, submitting modified terms, processing data from the available information using a rules based engine, and processing a future payment request based on at least one decision made by the rules based engine. While online, the user/debtor may engage in revising a rejected future payment request in an attempt to reach a satisfactory renegotiation of debt terms.

TL;DR: The final end shape of columns and the relative position between columns show that the end-end repulsion between chains is important in the structural formation.
Abstract: A ferrofluid emulsion, subjected to a slowly increasing magnetic field, exhibits a complicated structural behavior: a gas of Brownian particles changes to columnar solid structures due to induced dipole interaction. Two transition (intermediate) structural regimes are observed: (i) randomly distributed chains and particles and (ii) distinct thin columns and randomly distributed chains and particles. Three structural transition magnetic fields are found, one marking each structural transition, from the initial to the final structural regime. A structural diagram of the structural transition magnetic fields, H(C), versus particle volume fractions, straight phi, is constructed experimentally. Theoretical models of scaling calculations, based upon the dominant magnetic interaction in each structural regime, give the three structural transition magnetic-field relations as H(C1) proportional to straight phi(-1/2), H(C2) proportional to straight phi(-1/4), and H(C3) proportional to (straight phi(gamma)/G2)exp(piG/straight phi((gamma/2))), where gamma=0.39 and G=0.29 for our sample. The final end shape of columns and the relative position between columns show that the end-end repulsion between chains is important in the structural formation.

TL;DR: In this paper, a variable width bariatric bed including a frame having a modular configuration with front end, rear end and middle frame sections that are detachable from one another to facilitate storage, transport and relocation through narrow entrances.
Abstract: A variable width bariatric bed including a frame having a modular configuration with front end, rear end and middle frame sections that are detachable from one another to facilitate storage, transport and relocation through narrow entrances. A series of electric motors carried by the frame apply pushing forces to raise a plurality of mattress support deck sections to adjust the contour of a mattress. Each of the mattress support deck sections has a pair of pull out extensions that are adapted to slide outwardly and in opposite directions from a retracted position to an extended position at which the mattress support deck sections have a relatively wide width to support a correspondingly wide (e.g. 48 inch) mattress. Such mattress includes a mattress body and a pair of (e.g. foam or air filled) mattress extensions that are releasably connected at opposite sides of the mattress body and seated upon the pair of pull out extensions of the mattress support deck sections.
