TL;DR: In this article, a system is disclosed for marketing merchandise or services by telephone using brief prerecorded audio demonstrations stored in an audio program repeater and connected to a customer's telephone line by a switching system under control of a data processor in response to a code entered by a customer service operator via the switching system or a code entering directly by the customer through his push-button telephone.
Abstract: A system is disclosed for marketing merchandise or services by telephone using brief prerecorded audio demonstrations stored in an audio program repeater and connected to a customer's telephone line by a switching system under control of a data processor in response to a code entered by a customer service operator via the switching system or a code entered directly by the customer through his push-button telephone. In the latter case the data processor is in direct communication with the customer who uses the telephone push buttons to respond to prerecorded messages transmitted from the audio program repeater under control of the data processor. Otherwise the customer communicates with a customer service operator through the switching system and the customer service operator in turn selects the demonstration through the data processor. Having heard the demonstration, the customer indicates whether or not he wishes to purchase the merchandise or services, either to the customer sevice operator, who enters the purchase order in the data processor, or directly to the processor by telephone push-button operation. The data processor then transfers the order to an order processing system and updates both inventory records and the customer's history record.

TL;DR: Drawing from several theoretical perspectives on family violence and peer aggression, the authors analyze the impact of macro-system variables, family stress and resources, and family subsystems on less severe and more severe sibling violence.
Abstract: Sibling violence is the most prevalent and least studied form of family violence, and little research has examined differences based on severity. This research examines more severe versus less severe forms of sibling violence. Using a subsample of married couples with two or more children ages 0 to 17 drawn from the 1976 National Survey of Physical Violence in American Families, the authors employ Conflict Tactics Scale items for child-to-child conflict to construct a measure of sibling violence severity. Drawing from several theoretical perspectives on family violence and peer aggression, the authors analyze the impact of macro-system variables, family stress and resources, and family subsystems on less severe and more severe sibling violence. Contextual factors are most important in explaining less severe sibling violence. Experience of parental violence and unpredictability are individual factors relevant to severe sibling violence. More research is needed to examine the etiology and impact of different forms of sibling violence.

TL;DR: The authors examined the effects of intensive phonological-awareness (PA) instruction for kindergarten English learners and found that children who received intervention made significant growth in word reading when compared to a cohort of kindergarten students who received general kindergarten instruction.
Abstract: This article examines the effects of intensive phonological-awareness (PA) instruction for kindergarten English learners. One intact kindergarten class was provided 300 minutes of intensive instruction in PA. Results indicate that students who received intervention made significant growth in word reading when compared to a cohort of kindergarten students who received general kindergarten instruction. The article also discusses ability-group differences in performance among high-, middle-, and low-performing students and the implications of these findings for instructional practice.

TL;DR: A model telephone support program involved setting up peer networks of four or five caregivers for regular telephone conversations, and results indicated information gain, increased perceived social supports, and increased satisfaction with social supports regardless of program component.
Abstract: A model telephone support program involved setting up peer networks of four or five caregivers for regular telephone conversations. A randomized comparison was made of participants in networks (n = 31) and participants listening to an informational mini-lecture series assessed over the telephone (n = 35). Results indicated information gain, increased perceived social supports, and increased satisfaction with social supports regardless of program component. Greater information gain and more frequent emotional support from family and friends was shown for those listening to lectures. Less frequent emotional support from family and friends was found for peer network participants, suggesting support substitution.
