Abstract: The basic mechanism of patient-ventilator asynchrony is the mismatching between neural inspiratory and mechanical inspiratory time. Alterations in respiratory drive, timing, respiratory muscle pressure, and respiratory system mechanics influence the interaction between the patient and the ventilator. None of the currently available partial ventilatory support modes are exempt from problems with patient-ventilator asynchrony. Ventilator triggering design in the trigger phase and the set variables in the post-trigger phase contribute to patient-ventilator interaction. The set inspiratory flow rate in the post-trigger phase for assist-control volume cycled ventilation affects patient-ventilator asynchrony. Likewise, the initial pressure rise time, the pressure support level, and the flow-threshold for cycling off inspiration for pressure support ventilation are important factors affecting patient-ventilator asynchrony. Current investigations have advanced our understanding in this area; however, its prevalence and the extent to which patient-ventilator asynchrony affect the duration of mechanical ventilation remain unclear.

Abstract: Metal–organic polyhedra (MOPs) or frameworks (MOFs) based on Cr3+ are notoriously difficult to synthesize, especially as crystals large enough to be suitable for characterization of the structure or properties. It is now shown that the co-existence of In3+ and Cr3+ induces a rapid crystal growth of large single crystals of heterometallic In-Cr-MOPs with the [M8L12] (M=In/Cr, L=dinegative 4,5-imidazole-dicarboxylate) cubane-like structure. With a high concentration of protons from 12 carboxyl groups decorating every edge of the cube and an extensive H-bonded network between cubes and surrounding H2O molecules, the newly synthesized In-Cr-MOPs exhibit an exceptionally high proton conductivity (up to 5.8×10−2 S cm−1 at 22.5 °C and 98 % relative humidity, single crystal).

Abstract: The purpose of this project was to conduct a qualitative study of how participating in in-depth interviews impacted rape survivors. These interviews contained both open-ended, free response section and closed-ended, standardized assessments. The implementation of the interviews was informed by principles of feminist interviewing, which emphasized reducing hierarchy between the interviewer and interviewee, providing information and resources, and creating an emotionally supportive and compassionate setting. Narrative data were analyzed from rape survivors (N = 92) regarding how they were affected by participating in these interviews. Results suggested that the overwhelming majority of survivors found the interview to be a helpful, supportive, and insightful experience. Additional analyses revealed that the feminist interviewing principles were noticed and appreciated by the participants and contributed to their overall positive participation outcomes.

Abstract: Reported here are the new concept of utilizing open metal sites (OMSs) for architectural pore design and its practical implementation. Specifically, it is shown here that OMSs can be used to run extended hooks (isonicotinates in this work) from the framework walls to the channel centers to effect the capture of single metal ions or clusters, with the concurrent partitioning of the large channel spaces into multiple domains, alteration of the host–guest charge relationship and associated guest-exchange properties, and transfer of OMSs from the walls to the channel centers. The concept of the extended hook, demonstrated here in the multicomponent dual-metal and dual-ligand system, should be generally applicable to a range of framework types.
