TL;DR: Abraham et al. as mentioned in this paper derived room-temperature constants for hydrogen-atom abstraction in a number of solvents, where XH refers to several substituted phenols, tert-butyl hydroperoxide or aniline and Y• is a tert-alkoxyl radical.
Abstract: The rate of hydrogen-atom abstraction from XH by a radical, Y•, can be solvent-dependent. In many cases, the kinetic solvent effect (KSE) is directly related to hydrogen-bonding interactions between XH and the solvent. The relative hydrogen-bond acceptor (HBA) properties of solvents are given by constants of Abraham et al. (Abraham, M. H.; Grellier, P. L.; Prior, D. V.; Morris, J. J.; Taylor, P. J. J. Chem. Soc. Perkin Trans. 2 1990, 521−529). Room-temperature rate constants for hydrogen-atom abstraction, , have been determined in a number of solvents, S, where XH refers to several substituted phenols, tert-butyl hydroperoxide or aniline and Y• is a tert-alkoxyl radical. In all cases, plots of log( /M-1 s-1) versus gave excellent linear correlations, the slopes of which, MXH, were found to be proportional to the hydrogen-bond-donating (HBD) ability of XH, as scaled with parameters of Abraham et al. (Abraham, M. H.; Grellier, P. L.; Prior, D. V.; Duce, P. P.; Morris, J. J.; Taylor, P. J. J. Chem. Soc., Per...

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of concrete pore solution composition on the protective properties of the oxide films that form on black reinforcing steel has been experimentally investigated using anodic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS).
Abstract: The effect of concrete pore solution composition on the protective properties of the oxide films that form on black reinforcing steel has been experimentally investigated using anodic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) The tests were conducted on oxide films grown in saturated calcium hydroxide solutions that included different representative amounts of NaOH, KOH, and Ca(SO4), which are compounds that are commonly observed in most ordinary portland cement concrete types The results of both anodic polarization and EIS tests show that pore solution composition has an effect on the protective properties of the passive oxide films and, in particular, sulfate ions ( SO 4 ) 2 - have been shown to have a negative influence on the film quality

TL;DR: In most developed or industrialised societies of the temperate regions, recreational fi sheries have long represented the major use of aquatic wildlife, thus constituting the dominant fi shing activity in limnetic surface waters as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: Human exploitation of fi sh and other aquatic animals such as crustaceans and mammals is virtually ubiquitous on Earth and since ancient times has provided humanity with food, income and other social goods such as recreation. Fishing where the primary objective is not to produce food or generate income through the sale or trade of fi shing products is commonly termed ‘recreational fi shing’ or ‘angling’ (Arlinghaus et al., 2007). In most developed or industrialised societies of the temperate regions, recreational fi sheries have long represented the major use of aquatic wildlife, thus constituting the dominant fi shing activity in limnetic surface waters (Arlinghaus et al., 2002). Furthermore, the importance of recreational fi shing in many coastal areas (Coleman et al., 2004) and less developed nations (Cowx, 2002) is increasing rapidly.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors measured the jet energy resolution using data recorded with the ATLAS detector in proton-proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV, which corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35 pb(-1).
Abstract: The measurement of the jet energy resolution is presented using data recorded with the ATLAS detector in proton-proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV. The sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35 pb(-1). Jets are reconstructed from energy deposits measured by the calorimeters and calibrated using different jet calibration schemes. The jet energy resolution is measured with two different in situ methods which are found to be in agreement within uncertainties. The total uncertainties on these measurements range from 20 % to 10 % for jets within vertical bar y vertical bar < 2.8 and with transverse momenta increasing from 30 GeV to 500 GeV. Overall, the Monte Carlo simulation of the jet energy resolution agrees with the data within 10 %.
