TL;DR: Two-body charmless decays of the B meson into the final states using only decay modes with charged daughter particles are studied using 9.7x10(6) BB pairs collected with the CLEO detector.
Abstract: We have studied two-body charmless decays of the $B$ meson into the final states $\rho^0 \rho^0$, $K^{*0} \rho^0$, $K^{*0} K^{*0}$, $K^{*0} \bar{K^{*0}}$, $K^{*+} \rho^0$, $K^{*+} \bar{K^{*0}}$, and $K^{*+} K^{*-}$ using only decay modes with charged daughter particles. Using 9.7 million $B \bar{B}$ pairs collected with the CLEO detector, we place 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions, $(0.46-7.0)\times 10^{-5}$, depending on final state and polarization.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the effect of stock market bubbles on fixed investment in Japan and found that there was a bubble that had an economically important statistically significant effect on business fixed investment.
Abstract: The two key questions which motivate our work are: do bubbles exist (in the sense that stock market prices do not always correspond to the present value of expected future profitability) and, if bubbles exist, do they have an effect on business fixed investment? The case of Japan is particularly interesting because of the dramatic movements in the Japanese stock market and the wide perception that these were associated with a bubble. We use a variety of techniques to analyze these questions. Fist, we examine financing and investment patterns to gauge firms' reactions to the 1980s stock market run-up. Second, we test subsets of the orthogonality conditions associated with the empirical first-order conditions for fixed investment. Third, we use a linear projection to decompose stock market prices into fundamental and bubble components, allowing us to carry out parametric estimates of the effect of the bubble component on fixed investment. The data strongly suggest that there was a bubble that had an economically important statistically significant effect on business fixed investment in Japan.;

TL;DR: A series of novel luminescent cyclometalated Ir(III) complexes has been synthesized and evaluated for use in unimolecular oxygen-sensing materials and are the most promising candidates for future luminescence-quenching-based oxygen-Sensing studies.
Abstract: In this study, a series of novel luminescent cyclometalated Ir(III) complexes has been synthesized and evaluated for use in unimolecular oxygen-sensing materials. The complexes Ir(C6)2(vacac), 1, Ir(ppy)2(vacac), 2, fac-Ir(ppy)2(vppy), 3, and mer-Ir(ppy)2(vppy), 4, where C6 = Coumarin 6, vacac = allylacetoacetate, ppy = 2-phenylpyridine, and vppy = 2-(4-vinylphenyl)pyridine, all have pendent vinyl or allyl groups for polymer attachment via the hydrosilation reaction. These luminophore complexes were characterized by NMR, absorption, and emission spectroscopy, luminescence lifetime and quantum yield measurements, elemental analysis, and cyclic voltammetry. Complex 1 was structurally characterized using X-ray crystallography, and a series of 1-D (1H, 13C) and 2-D (1H−1H, 1H−13C) NMR experiments were used to resolve the solution structure of 4. Complexes 1 and 3 displayed the longest luminescence lifetimes and largest quantum efficiencies in solution (τ = 6.0 μs, φ = 0.22 for 1; τ = 0.4 μs, φ = 0.2 for 3) an...

TL;DR: Inclusive jet production is found to be suppressed by approximately a factor of 2 in central collisions compared to pp collisions, and the nuclear modification factor R(AA) shows a slight increase with p(T) and no significant variation with rapidity.
Abstract: Measurements of inclusive jet production are performed in pp and Pb+Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 4.0 pb−1 and 0.14 nb−1, respectively. The jets are identified with the anti-kt algorithm with R = 0.4, and the spectra are measured over the kinematic range of jet transverse momentum 32 < pT < 500 GeV, and absolute rapidity |y| < 2.1 and as a function of collision centrality. The nuclear modification factor, RAA, is evaluated and jets are found to be suppressed by approximately a factor of two in central collisions compared to pp collisions. The RAA shows a slight increase with pT and no significant variation with rapidity.

TL;DR: By studying the performance under different models, it is shown that knowledge of the instantaneous source-destination SNR at the relay can be exploited and the e2e BER can be reduced significantly compared to simple digital relaying.
Abstract: This paper studies selective relaying schemes based on signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) to minimize the end-to-end (e2e) bit error rate (BER) in cooperative digital relaying systems using BPSK modulation. In the SNR-based selective relaying, the relay either retransmits or remains silent depending on the SNRs of the source-relay, relay-destination, and source-destination links. Different models assuming the availability of different sets of instantaneous and average SNR information at the relay are studied. For each model, the optimal strategy to minimize the e2e BER is a different threshold rule on the source-relay SNR, if the link SNRs are uncorrelated in time and space. Approximations for the optimal threshold values that minimize the e2e BER and the resulting performance are derived analytically for BPSK modulation. Using the derived threshold the e2e BER can be reduced significantly compared to simple digital relaying. By studying the performance under different models, it is shown that knowledge of the instantaneous source-destination SNR at the relay can be exploited. The gain from this knowledge is higher when the average source-destination SNR is large. However, knowledge of the instantaneous relay-destination SNR at the relay does not change performance significantly.
