TL;DR: Consideration of the epidemiological evidence on radiogenic lung cancer in uranium miners and of the incidence of the disease generally leads to an upper estimate for the lifetime risk of 10−4 cases per working level month for the general population.
Abstract: Consideration of the epidemiological evidence on radiogenic lung cancer in uranium miners and of the incidence of the disease generally leads to an upper estimate for the lifetime risk of 10−4 cases per working level month for members of the general population.

TL;DR: In this article, a model for distribution and retention used previously for adults, and extended the model to include all ages, was presented, and the effects of stable iodine intake on radioiodine uptakes explicity was discussed.
Abstract: The estimation of individual doses for radiation protection and for risk assessment puposes from a radioiodine intake requires a knowledge of the distribution and retention of the radioiodine (primarily in the thyroid), and a knowledge of the average energy deposited in each organ of interest per radioactive decay (S-factors). This paper reviews a model for distribution and retention used previously for adults, and extends the model to include all ages. The extended model also includes the effects of stable iodine intakes on radioiodine uptakes explicity. Included in the paper is a tabulation of existing adult S-factors for selected radioiodines and the extension of S-factors for the thyroid to all age groups. Finally, doses per unit intake are calculated and tabulated. A discussion and some calculations of the effects of stable iodine intake on committed doses are given.

TL;DR: In this article, the density of vibrational states and the Debye-Waller factor have been derived on the metallic glass Cu0.6Zr0.4 by triple-axis crystal spectrometry.
Abstract: Neutron inelastic scattering measurements have been made on the metallic glass Cu0.6Zr0.4 by triple-axis crystal spectrometry. The density of vibrational states and the Debye-Waller factor have been derived. The coherent scattering cross section, integrated over the spectrum, agrees well with previous measurements. Small-angle scattering measurements revealed no structural inhomogeneities in the material.

TL;DR: In this paper, the cross section for radiative capture of thermal neutrons by 3He arising from 1π, 1ρ and 1ω meson exchange processes is calculated using oscillator and exponential wave functions for 3He (including a D-wave component) and oscillator wave function for 4He, and a correlation function with a range of 0.25 fm is incorporated in the wave function.

TL;DR: In this paper, the location of spin giant resonances and the polarizability of spin operators are related to the corresponding properties in electric excitations, and the utility of this result is demonstrated.

TL;DR: In this paper, high resolution inelastic neutron scattering measurements have yielded the result that the zone centre spin wave response is broad and strongly asymmetric, with a significant fraction of the spectral weight in a narrow peak at the low frequency end of the distribution.
Abstract: CsCoCl3 is believed to be an excellent example of a one dimensional s = 1/2 Ising‐like antiferromagnet with a ratio of transverse to longitudinal exchange of e∼0.1. High resolution inelastic neutron scattering measurements have yielded the result that the zone centre spin wave response is broad and strongly asymmetric, with a significant fraction of the spectral weight in a narrow peak at the low frequency end of the distribution. At the zone boundary a sharp resolution limited peak is observed. We report further high resolution measurements of the spin wave response in CsCoCl3. The calculations of Ishimura and Shiba based on first order perturbation theory as well as exact calculations on rings of 10 spins predict too little spectral weight in the low frequency sharp feature. In addition, the perturbation theory fails to describe the bandwidth and dispersion of the peaks with a single value of e. It is unlikely that perturbation theory to order e is adequate for CsCoCl3.

TL;DR: In this article, an accelerator-supported decentralized system of small nuclear heat sources characterized by versatility and long-term sustainability is investigated, where neutrons produced by high energy proton-induced spallation reactions are used both for repeated in-situ rejuvenation of spent nuclear fuel and for the reduction of nuclear waste by fission product transmutation.
