TL;DR: The thermal conductivity of hyperstoichiometric SIMFUEL and UO 2+x was obtained from thermal diffusivity, specific heat and density measurements in this paper, where a reduction of 15%, 37% and 56% at 600 o C, and 11, 23% and 33% at 1500 o C was found for O/U ratios of 2.007, 2.035 and 2.084, respectively.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of the basal texture on the mechanical behavior of AZ31B magnesium alloy sheet is studied numerically using a recently developed Elastic Visco-Plastic Self-consistent (EVPSC) model, in which both slip and twinning contribute to plastic deformation.
Abstract: The effect of the basal texture on the mechanical behaviour of AZ31B magnesium alloy sheet is studied numerically using a recently developed Elastic Visco-Plastic Self-consistent (EVPSC) model, in which both slip and twinning contribute to plastic deformation. We simulate uniaxial tension within the sheet plane using starting textures having the basal poles tilted at varying degrees from the normal direction. It is found that increasing the tilt angle increases the uniform strain, but decreases the 0.2% proof strength and the R -value. The effect of texture on sheet metal forming is further assessed by calculating the limit strain under in-plane plane strain tension. It is demonstrated that the limit strain increases dramatically with decreasing intensity of the basal texture. The numerical results are found to be in good qualitative agreement with experimental observations.

TL;DR: In case of a large-scale radiological incident, the pooling of ressources by networks can enhance the rapid classification of individuals in medically relevant treatment groups based on the DCA.
Abstract: Purpose: Two quality controlled inter-laboratory exercises were organized within the EU project ‘Realizing the European Network of Biodosimetry (RENEB)’ to further optimize the dicentric chromosome assay (DCA) and to identify needs for training and harmonization activities within the RENEB network.Materials and methods: The general study design included blood shipment, sample processing, analysis of chromosome aberrations and radiation dose assessment. After manual scoring of dicentric chromosomes in different cell numbers dose estimations and corresponding 95% confidence intervals were submitted by the participants. Results: The shipment of blood samples to the partners in the European Community (EU) were performed successfully. Outside the EU unacceptable delays occurred. The results of the dose estimation demonstrate a very successful classification of the blood samples in medically relevant groups. In comparison to the 1st exercise the 2nd intercomparison showed an improvement in the accuracy o...
