TL;DR: It was found that Ecarin cleaves prothrombin at a bond, which results in release of the NH2 -terminal portion of the molecule (A-fragment; intermediate 3) and this is believed to be the reason for the lower specific activity of E carin thrombin on fibrinogen.

TL;DR: In experiments where hypertrophy of the soleus muscle was combined with denervation three days after tenotomy of synergists, and examined after another four days (during which time it loses, as has previously been shown, over 40% of its predenervation weight), the number of satellite cells was greatly increased.
Abstract: Compensatory hypertrophy was induced in the rat soleus muscle by sectioning the tendon of the ipsilateral gastrocnemius and plantaris muscle Seven days after tenotomy of synergistic muscles, when soleus hypertrophy attains about 40%, the number of satellite cells (expressed as percentage of all muscle nuclei found in the same cross-sections) as revealed by electron microscopy, was increased from 58±006% in the normal soleus muscle to 166±126% After four days' denervation of the soleus muscle the percentage of satellite cells was increased to 72±062% In experiments where hypertrophy of the soleus muscle was combined with denervation three days after tenotomy of synergists, and examined after another four days (during which time it loses, as has previously been shown, over 40% of its predenervation weight), the number of satellite cells was greatly increased to 299±342% This increase is apparently due to two independent processes which take place during the first postoperative period: a) mitotic division of satellite cells during the early stages of compensatory hypertrophy and b) pinching off of muscle nuclei from rapidly atrophying muscle fibres due to subsequent denervation Activation of satellite cells was mainly manifested by expansion of smooth and especially of rough endoplasmic reticulum, a rich Golgi complex, high pinocytotic activity, increased number of ribosomes and by nuclear changes Concomitantly with the increased number of satellite cells, proliferation of fibroblasts, macrophages and mast cells could be observed

TL;DR: The changes in the heart size during the ontogenetic development of honoiotherms are accompanied by the gradual transformation of the vascularless spongious musculature into a compact myocardium supplied thrugh coronary vessels.
Abstract: The oxgen supply of the heart depends on the proportion between the mount of oxygen consumed by the cardiac cell and that offered to the cardiac cell. Since, under normal conditions, the cornary arteriovenous difference is considerably high, the heart is apparently not able to increase its oxygen supply to any appreciable extent by raising the oxygen extraction from the blood (l). Thus, the dominant factor affecting the supply of oxygen to cardiac sturctures is governed by the type and overall capacity of the cardiac terminal vascular bed.

TL;DR: Hexazonium-p-rosanilin improves greatly the localization of peptidases in cold microtome sections from which lipids were not extracted and the best results are furnished by 1-naphthylamine dervatives.
Abstract: The suitability of hexazonium-p-rosanilin (HP) in the histochemical demonstration of peptidases was investigated. The detection was carried out in cold microtome sections adherent to slides or semipermeable membranes. Alanyl-1-naphthylamide, alanyl-2-naphthylamide, leucyl-2-naphthylamide, leucyl-4-methoxy-2-naphthylamide (all substrates in concentration of 0.4 mg/1 ml of citrate phosphate buffer pH 6.5), γ-L-glutamyl-1-naphthylamide, γ-L-glutamyl-2-naphthylamide (both substances in concentration of 0.24 mg/1 ml of acetate buffer pH 6.5) were used as the substrates. Results were compared with those obtained with Fast Blue B and Fast Garnet GBC.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used the Rb-Sr whole-rock isochron method to investigate the age of the Krivoklat-Rokycany complex (Barrandian synclinal of Bohemia).
Abstract: The volcanics from Krivoklat-Rokycany complex (Barrandian synclinal of Bohemia) are investigated by the Rb-Sr whole-rock isochron method (λ 87Rb=1,47 10−11y−1) The age of 474±5 m y of these volcanics, stratigraphically overlain by the Tremadoc, implies that the Cambrian-Ordovician boundary, up to now estimated at 500 m y might be reset at about 470 m y The good quality of the isochron stresses the consanguinity of the different petrographic terms of the Krivoklat-Rokycany volcanic series and the initial isotopic ratio87Sr/86Sr at 0,7041±0,0003 points out its infracrustal or mantle origin

TL;DR: It can be deduced that PDG has about the same diagnostic value as PMG, offering the advantage of the extradural application of contrast material, i.e. harmlessness and applicability in out-patients.
Abstract: An analysis of 102 PDGs is given with regard to the anatomy of the peridural spaces and of 98 PDGs verified at operation as to their diagnostic value. The anatomical picture and its variations (including anomalies and some pathological findings) are explained by the geometrical shape of the lumbosacral spinal canal which is oval in the upper, triangular in the lower lumbar and slit-like in the sacral region. From the anatomical analysis, as well as from our clinical material, it can be deduced that PDG has about the same diagnostic value as PMG, offering the advantage of the extradural application of contrast material, i.e. harmlessness and applicability in out-patients.

TL;DR: In this article, Cadmium telluride single crystals, both undoped and doped with chlorine, bromine and iodine, were grown from tellurium melt and the electrical conductivity, Hall effect and photo-Hall effect were investigated.
Abstract: Cadmium telluride single crystals, both undoped and doped with chlorine, bromine and iodine, were grown from tellurium melt. The electrical conductivity, Hall effect and photo-Hall effect were investigated. Acceptor levels located at 0·15 eV, 0·5 eV and 0·9 eV above the top of the valence band were found in samples of this semi-insulating material. A model is proposed which describes the compensation of cadmium vacancies and complexes by chlorine atoms. Chlorinedoped CdTe single crystals have proved suitable for preparation of the detectors of gammaradiation.

TL;DR: Plasma testosterone values were established by the protein-binding method in 45 married patients who at the age of 36–55 were examined for sexual disinterest and/or disturbances of penile erection, and similar coital activity was found as in the control group of normospermic men.
Abstract: Plasma testosterone values were established by the protein-binding method in 45 married patients who at the age of 36-55 were examined for sexual disinterest and/or disturbances of penile erection. The control group consisted of 108 men whose ejaculate was normospermic and who reported adequate coital activity. The average values of male sex hormone in all age subgroups of patients with functional sexual disorders were lower than those of the control group. However, in patients with a pathological somatosexual finding (chromatin-positive men, patients with a varicocele), where the plasma testosterone level was approximately the same as in patients with functional sexual disorders, similar coital activity was found as in the control group of normospermic men.

TL;DR: The given principle of the demonstration of aminopeptidase activity with an indolylamine substrate deserves a further exploration in the demonstrating of peptidases “in situ” both on optical as well as electronmicroscopical levels.
Abstract: The indigogenic method for aminopeptidase of Pearson et al. (1963) was critically evaluated. The localization obtained with it is not correct due to diffusion artifacts. Ferricyanide cannot be used as an oxidation agent. Based on experiments with other oxidation agents (phenazonium methosulfate, nitro BT, tetranitro BT) a new method was devised. The recommended incubation medium contains 0.9 mM L-N-(5-bromoindol-3-yl) leucinamide hydrobromide (chloride), 0.73 mM tetranitro BT, 0.27 mM phenazonium methosulfate and 0.67 M phosphate buffer pH 7.4. The enzyme activity is indicated by the deposition of tetranitro BT formazan. Results with this method in rat kidney, jejunum, liver, lung, and submaxillary gland, in monkey kidney and jejunum, and in human jejunal biosies are almost identical with those obtained with L-leucyl-4-methoxy-β-naphthylamide applied in a simultaneous azocoupling procedure. The given principle of the demonstration of aminopeptidase activity with an indolylamine substrate deserves a further exploration in the demonstration of peptidases “in situ” both on optical as well as electronmicroscopical levels.

TL;DR: In this paper, the necessary and sufficient conditions for the finite or infinite component field equation to be conformally covariant are derived and the conditions are explicitly solved under very general assumptions.
Abstract: The connection of conformal fields with the Mackey theory is discussed. The necessary and sufficient conditions for the finite or infinite component field equation $$\left( {L_\mu \partial ^\mu + m} \right)\psi \left( x \right) = 0$$ to be conformally covariant, are derived. The conditions are then explicitly solved under very general assumptions and thus conformally covariant equations of the above type are explicitly found (Theorem 5). The circumstances under which the equation may be obtained from a Lagrangian are discussed.

TL;DR: In this paper, the application of classical geophysical methods in locating karst caves did not yield always unambiguous results and a new method that has not yet been tested was presented.
Abstract: The application of classical geophysical methods in locating karst caves did not yield always unambiguous results It was our task to verify a new method that has not yet been tested In investigating caves in a karst formation, electromagnetic waves in the band 2–10 MHz were applied The physical analysis of the problem is carried out, the measuring device used for the perradiation of the rocks between the boreholes is described, and the results of the measurements made in the karst area of East Slovakia (CSSR) are shown The verification from mines is included The results mentioned are demonstrated in a space model The work performed in the mines verified unambiguously the interpretation of the indications measured The results show the suitability of putting the electromagnetic method in question into the set of geophysical methods within the hydrogeological survey of karst areas

TL;DR: During the prenatal period a favorable effect of work-load for the offspring could be induced more easily even with mild aerobic and quite short daily exercise than later during postnatal life as shown by experiments reported previously.
Abstract: In two series of experiments the development of body weight, heart weight and the microstructure of the rat heart in the male offspring from exercised and control inactive mothers was followed. In 50-day-old male offspring the total body weight and heart weight did not differ; in 100-day-old male offspring the heart weight was significantly higher in those from mothers exercising daily for 1 hr (run on a tread-mill with the speed 14 to 16 m/min,i.e. mild exercise of an aerobic character) throughout pregnancy. As regards microstructure of the heart, the differences were significant both in younger and older animals. The number of muscle fibers and capillaries per mm2 in the heart was significantly higher in male offspring of exercised mothers. The capillary: fiber ratio was significantly higher and the diffusion distance significantly shorter in male offspring of exercised mothers. During the prenatal period a favorable effect of work-load for the offspring could be induced more easily even with mild aerobic and quite short daily exercise than later during postnatal life as shown by experiments reported previously.

TL;DR: 13 of the 14 bleeding patients showed not only pressor responses and haemodynamic and clinical improvement when administering doses of 20–100 µg/kg, but clear signs of standstill of upper gastrointestinal bleeding.

TL;DR: There is a similarity between plant alcohol dehydrogenases and animal and yeast enzymes, i.e., Pyrazol, imidazol and pyridine inhibit plant ADH similarly to the enzyme from horse liver.
Abstract: The final activity of the alcohol dehydrogenase (E.C.1.1.1.1, abbreviated ADH) from germinating pea, isolated by fractionating with ammonium sulphate, chromatography on DEAE cellulose and gel filtration, was 80,000, from bean 25,000 and from lentil 13,500 units per mg protein. Molecular weights of the ADHs are close to each other: pea and bean ADH 60,000, lentil ADH 70,000. The Km values are mutually similar with three enzymes, i.e. of the order of 10−4M for NAD and 10−2M for ethanol. The pH optima lie in the alkaline region. These enzymes catalyse oxidation of a number of monovalent alcohols. At temperatures above 60°C the enzymes are thermally unstable. Stability is enhanced slowly by ethanol but not by NAD. Pyrazol, imidazol and pyridine inhibit plant ADH similarly to the enzyme from horse liver. There is a similarity between plant alcohol dehydrogenases and animal and yeast enzymes.

TL;DR: Differences between the normal and cleft arrangement of the orbicularis muscle are due to the fact that the muscle stumps which extend during their embryonic growth in a latero-medial direction fail to meet in the central line of the lip and thus seek other attachments at firm points in the immediate vicinity.
