TL;DR: To study the problem in connection with injury to the liver parenchyma in patients with PCT, material of the porphyric unit of the First Medical Department, Faculty of General Medicine, Prague was utilized.
Abstract: Porphyria cutanea tarda (PCT) occupies a significant place among porphyrias by generally being considered an acquired disease, even though certain genetic influences cannot be wholly excluded. Some writers agree that in this type of porphyria the liver is very often affected by fibrosis of varying degrees, which in the great majority of cases develops into cirrhosis (1, 2, 3). Nevertheless, the pathogenesis of these hepatic alterations has not yet been satisfactorily explained. Available reports on autopsy findings of PCT are few, and likewise long-term follow-ups of the development of this disease in a broader clinical context are lacking. To study the problem in connection with injury to the liver parenchyma in patients with PCT, we utilized material of the porphyric unit of the First Medical Department, Faculty of General Medicine, Prague.

TL;DR: It is proved that Ti is a Proper subset of T i+1, and a proper subset of context-sensitive languages, if Ti is the set of all context-free languages and Ti+1 is theSet of all possible translations from Ti by means of a so-called linear deterministic pushdown store transducer.
Abstract: The classes of languages Ti are defined, i being a natural number, for which it is proved that Ti is a proper subset of T i+1, and a proper subset of context-sensitive languages, if Ti is the set of all context-free languages and Ti+1 is the set of all possible translations from Ti by means of a so-called linear deterministic pushdown store transducer; the formal mechanism is close enough to the so-called functional generative description, which has already been applied to large subsets of natural languages.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used the notion of critical Ramsey graph to characterize all finite graphs for which G ~ G'. The negation of this statement is denoted by G-T+G'.
Abstract: All graphs in this paper are finite and undirected. Let G=(V, E), G'=(V', E'). A one-to-one mapping f : V ~ V \" is said to be an embedding iff (x,y)EE,~ ,~,(f(x), f(y))CE'. We say that the graph G' is a Ramsey graph for G if for every partition E'=E1UE2 there exists an embedding f :G~G\" such that f ( E ) c E , for an iC {1, 2}. We abbreviate this by G-T+ G'. The negation of this statement is denoted by G ~ G'. Given a graph G, it is an interesting question to characterize all finite graphs G' for which G ~ G'. This seems to be very difficult. Presently it is evident that the structure of all graphs G', which are Ramsey graphs for G, is very complex. In this paper we shall go in this direction using the notion of critical Ramsey graph.

Abstract: The behaviour of 19 s-triazine derivatives was studied using high performance liquid chromatography. The effect of the composition and pH of the mobile phase on the retention data was studied on the CN-bonded stationary phase. The dependences among the s-triazine structure, the dissociation constants and the chromatographic data are discussed.

TL;DR: It is now possible to genetically define Ia antigens in the rat by the use of I region‐congenic strains with extensive cross‐reactivity with most of the H‐1 haplotypes, and two private specificities could be operationally defined.
Abstract: A recombinant haplotype of the major histocompatibility complex (H-1) of the rat has been found among F2 hybrids of two congenic strains, and it has been shown previously that the major gene determining mixed lymphocyte stimulation and the Ir-TGAL and Ir-PheGAL genes were separated from the genes determining the classical serologically detectable histocompatibility antigens. It has been shown that the complementing Ir-HGAL genes mapped together with the other Ir genes, and this gene cluster is assumed to represent the I region of the rat. Serological analysis of the recombinant is interpreted as showing that the Ir genes do not map in-between the genes controlling the classical histocompatibility antigens. Thus, the sequence of the major histocompatibility genes in the rat does not seem to follow that of the mouse H-2 system. Reciprocal immunization between the recombinant and the parental strain which shares the classical transplantation antigens but differs for the Ir genes, led t o the production of antisera which detected antigens with restricted tissue expression. These antigens were predominantly found on B lymphocytes and not on liver, brain or red blood cells and thus resembled mouse Ia antigens. Strain distribution analysis revelaed extensive cross-reactivity with most of the H-1 haplotypes, and two private specificities could be operationally defined. Thus, it is now possible to genetically define Ia antigens in the rat by the use of I region-congenic strains.

TL;DR: It is concluded that of the above ions only the transport of Na is compatible with simple diffusion and the possible mechanisms of net transport from mother to fetus.
Abstract: Electrical potential difference across the midterm human placenta was recorded during hysterotomy. The average value registered was 2.7 mV (S.E. of mean=0.4 mV, n=7), fetus negative. From this value and the concentrations of Na, K, Ca, CI and inorganic phosphate in maternal and fetal plasma the possible mechanisms of net transport from mother to fetus are inferred. It is concluded that of the above ions only the transport of Na is compatible with simple diffusion.

TL;DR: A significant shift in somatotype from ectomorphmesomorph towards endo-mesomorphy between 17 and 24 years was shown and was greater than that observed by Zuk ('58), and was in the same direction.
Abstract: In order to examine the possible changes in somatotype of young males, 14 boys who had been somatotyped annually from 11 to 18 years by the Health-Carter anthropometric rating method were re-somatotyped at 24 years. The analysis focused on years 17, 18 and 24. Discriminant analysis, somatotype dispersion indices and distances, and the I-index were used to analyze the data. The findings showed a significant shift in somatotype from ectomorphmesomorph towards endo-mesomorphy between 17 and 24 years. This shift was greater than that observed by Zuk ('58), and was in the same direction. It is hypothesized that the somatotypes of males become more endo-mesomorphic from 17 years to the mid-twenties.

TL;DR: The indisputable etiologic role of alcohol consumption as well as to the influence of gradual chemical pollution of the environment are pointed to.
Abstract: The frequency of porphyria cutanea tarda (PCT) has been increasing greatly and its incidence at present in our country can be estimated to one case in 2000–5000 inhabitants. A striking fact is an apparent shift in the incidence of the disease to younger age groups. Analysis of causes of the increasing frequency of PCT lies beyond the scope of this paper. Nevertheless, we would like to point to the indisputable etiologic role of alcohol consumption as well as to the influence of gradual chemical pollution of the environment. In porphyric patients signs of liver injury can be found frequently, with the degree of liver damage directly proportional to the duration of the disease and to the age of patient. Besides liver cirrhosis and a frequent incidence of hepatoma in cirrhosis in later stages of the disease occurring 100–200 times more often in untreated patients than in normal population, signs of chronic hepatitis confirmed both in biochemical tests and in histologic pictures of liver biopsies can be found most frequently.

TL;DR: The comparative study with synthetically prepared peptidoglycan subunitpeptides and N-acetylmuramyl peptide revealed that the minimal structure required for the pyrogenic effect is a peptide subunit while the introduction of N- acetylmuramic acid is necessary to observe the effect on sleep.
Abstract: A basic structure of cell wall of gram-positive bacteria peptidoglycan has been investigated for pyrogenic potency and for its effect on sleep. Both effects seem to be related to the brain stem and the results of small electrolytic lesions as well as the results of study of 5-HT turnover suggest the involvement of 5-hydroxytryptaminergic structures. Experiments with inhibitors of prostaglandin synthesis (salicylates and indomethacin) suggest the possibility of a participation of prostaglandins in the pyretic effects. The comparative study with synthetically prepared peptidoglycan subunitpeptides and N-acetylmuramyl peptide revealed that the minimal structure required for the pyrogenic effect is a peptide subunit while the introduction of N-acetylmuramic acid is necessary to observe the effect on sleep.

Abstract: The12C/13C isotope ratio in the interstellar medium and in stellar atmospheres is discussed and compared to the value found in the solar system and especially in comets. The cometary value (≥100) tends to be slightly above the terrestrial value and is definitively higher than that for interstellar molecular clouds (about 30 to 50).

TL;DR: In this paper, the mutual relationships between sillimanite, biotite, staurolite and muscovite, existing in proximity of the isograd, are discussed.
Abstract: The Devonian eugeosynclinal volcano-sedimentary complex (the Vrbno and Rejviz series) building the envelope unit of the Desna Dome in the Hrubý Jesenik Mts. was regionally metamorphosed during the polyphase Variscan metamorphism. In it, five zones have been distinguished: the chlorite, biotite, garnet, staurolite and sillimanite ones. The metamorphism was of progressive character and its intensity (temperature) increased in the Vrbno series from S to N, and in the Rejviz series from SE to NW. The mineral assemblages of rocks correspond to medium-pressure metamorphism in the greenschist, albite-epidote-amphibolite and the amphibolite facies. The earlier metamorphic phase (I) attained at maximum the staurolite zone. The later metamorphic phase (II) was a medium-pressure, too (5.5 kb at a temperature of 670° to 700°C), but it attained a higher temperature. It is represented by the sillimanite zone in which staurolite is unstable and is replaced by muscovite. Almandine does not change. In this paper, among others, the mutual relationships between sillimanite, biotite, staurolite and muscovite, existing in proximity of the sillimanite isograd, are discussed.

TL;DR: A significant correlation between the activity of the bone isoenzyme or serum alkaline phosphatase and the urinary hydroxyproline excretion in osteomalacia, osteoporosis, primary hyperparathyroidism with osteo‐dystrophy, Paget's disease, secondary bone tumours, and in a control group was found.
Abstract: A significant correlation between the activity of the bone isoenzyme or serum alkaline phosphatase and the urinary hydroxyproline excretion in osteomalacia, osteoporosis, primary hyperparathyroidism with osteodystrophy, Paget's disease, secondary bone tumours, and in a control group was found (P less than 0.001). This close correlation was not observed between these variables in patients with active acromegaly. Diagnosis determined from these indices of formation and turnover of bone matrix agreed with that established by histological and histochemical examination of bone, by X-ray investigation of the skeleton, and by the radionuclear 85Sr test. The relationship between the activity of bone isoenzyme and urinary hydroxyproline excretion differed in metabolic bone diseases with a high bone turnover, in patients with osteoporosis and in patients with early osteoclastic bone metastases.

TL;DR: In this paper, the coreflective hull of metric spaces is shown to be productive if and only if there exists no uniformly sequential cardinal number in the metric space, and three basis examples of productive sub-classes are constructed (connected with products of discrete spaces, proximally fine spaces, and uniformly sequentially continuous mappings).
Abstract: Using the fact that each product of uniform quotient mappings is a quotient mapping, new conditions are given for the finite and countable productivity of a coreflective sub-class of uniform spaces. Three basis examples of productive coreflective sub-classes are constructed (connected with products of discrete spaces, proximally fine spaces, and uniformly sequentially continuous mappings) and the coreflective hull of metric spaces is shown to be productive if and only if there exists no uniformly sequential cardinal number.
