TL;DR: The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12.3 in almost all cases has been a key driver in stimulating countries to develop their own national strategy to reduce food waste as mentioned in this paper, but few countries have moved from an initial strategy perspective to the development of specific legislative and regulatory requirements to address the issue.
Abstract: Internationally the development of policies for tackling food waste as social and environmental priorities is relatively underdeveloped. Few countries have moved on from an initial strategy perspective to the development of specific legislative and regulatory requirements to address the issue. Therefore this chapter will assess the late 2019 position and exemplify the progress that has been made in moving from ambitious policy targets to concrete regulatory requirements. The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 12.3 in almost all cases has been a key driver in stimulating countries to develop their own national strategy to reduce food waste.
