TL;DR: It is suggested that propofol administered before and during global myocardial ischemia has cardioprotective effects on ischemIA-reperfusion injury and is important to protect the heart from injury by ischemic and reperfusion.
Abstract: UNLABELLED The purpose of this study was to examine the direct effects of propofol on ischemia-reperfusion injury using an isolated Langendorff rat heart preparation. Hearts were perfused with Krebs-Henseleit (K-H) solution (control); intralipid; or 10, 30, and 100 microM propofol. Hearts were rendered globally ischemic for 25 min, then reperfusion was begun with K-H solution for 30 min. Treatment with 100 microM propofol delayed the onset of contracture during ischemia compared with control or intralipid treatments (6.4 +/- 2.1 vs 4.4 +/- 1.4 or 4.1 +/- 0.7 min, respectively; P < 0.05). During reperfusion, 100 microM propofol increased coronary flow and reduced lactate dehydrogenase release compared with control or intralipid treatments. After 30 min of reperfusion, left ventricular developed pressure (LVDP) returned to 55 and 76 mm Hg in the 30 and 100 microM propofol-treated groups, respectively, whereas LVDP was 39 mm Hg in the control group. The hearts treated with 100 microM propofol showed significantly lower left ventricular end-diastolic pressure compared with the control or intralipid groups 30 min after reperfusion (29 +/- 13 vs 48 +/- 5 or 48 +/- 11 mm Hg, respectively; P < 0.05). In histological evaluation, control and intralipid hearts had increased injury severity scores compared with hearts treated with 100 microM propofol (1.8 +/- 0.9 and 1.7 +/- 0.8 vs 1.0 +/- 0.7, respectively; P < 0.05). In conclusion, we suggest that propofol administered before and during global myocardial ischemia has cardioprotective effects on ischemia-reperfusion injury. IMPLICATIONS It is important to protect the heart from injury by ischemia and reperfusion. The current study demonstrates that in the isolated rat heart, propofol attenuates mechanical, biochemical, and histological changes causes by ischemia and reperfusion.

TL;DR: It is shown that a circuit-based learning using RWC is two orders faster than its software counterpart, which is a first of its kind demonstrating successful circuit- based learning for multilayer neural network built with memristors.
Abstract: Memristor-based circuit architecture for multilayer neural networks is proposed. It is a first of its kind demonstrating successful circuit-based learning for multilayer neural network built with memristors. Though back-propagation algorithm is a powerful learning scheme for multilayer neural networks, its hardware implementation is very difficult due to complexities of the neural synapses and the operations involved in the learning algorithm. In this paper, the circuit of a multilayer neural network is designed with memristor bridge synapses and the learning is realized with a simple learning algorithm called Random Weight Change (RWC). Though RWC algorithm requires more iterations than back-propagation algorithm, we show that a circuit-based learning using RWC is two orders faster than its software counterpart. The method to build a multilayer neural network using memristor bridge synapses and a circuit-based learning architecture of RWC algorithm is proposed. Comparison between software-based and memristor circuit-based learning are presented via simulations.

TL;DR: A possible growth mechanism ofTiO2@RGO hybrids is proposed based on observations of the TiO2 nanoparticles obtained from the hydrolysis process under different conditions and the effects of different reduced graphene oxide contents on the energy conversion efficiency of the dye-sensitized solar cells.
Abstract: An effective method was developed to prepare hybrid materials of TiO2 nanoparticles on reduced graphene oxide (RGO) sheets for application in solar cells. The morphology, size, and crystal phase of the TiO2 nanoparticles and TiO2@reduced graphene oxide (TiO2@RGO) hybrids were investigated in detail by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), selected area electron diffraction (SAED), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Raman, and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. A possible growth mechanism of TiO2@RGO hybrids is proposed based on observations of the TiO2 nanoparticles obtained from the hydrolysis process under different conditions. The effects of different reduced graphene oxide contents on the energy conversion efficiency of the dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) based on J–V and incident photon-to-current conversion efficiency (IPCE) spectra are also discussed. DSSCs based on TiO2@RGO hybrid photoanodes with a graphene content of 1....
