TL;DR: Four search heuristics are proposed to address the problem, namely the earliest weighted due date, the shortest weighted processing time, the two-level batch scheduling heuristic, and the simulated annealing method.
Abstract: This paper presents several search heuristics and their performance in batch scheduling of parallel, unrelated machines. Identical or similar jobs are typically processed in batches in order to decrease setup times and/or processing times. The problem accounts for allotting batched work parts into unrelated parallel machines, where each batch consists of a fixed number of jobs. Some batches may contain different jobs but all jobs within each batch should have an identical processing time and a common due date. Processing time of each job of a batch is determined according to the machine group as well as the batch group to which the job belongs. Major or minor setup times are required between two subsequent batches depending on batch sequence but are independent of machines. The objective of our study is to minimize the total weighted tardiness for the unrelated parallel machine scheduling. Four search heuristics are proposed to address the problem, namely (1) the earliest weighted due date, (2) the shortest weighted processing time, (3) the two-level batch scheduling heuristic, and (4) the simulated annealing method. These proposed local search heuristics are tested through computational experiments with data from dicing operations of a compound semiconductor manufacturing facility.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors synthesize carbon nanotubes by thermal chemical vapor deposition of C2H2 on transition metal-coated silicon substrates, and demonstrate that the diameters of carbon-nanotubes can be controlled by applying the different transition metals.
Abstract: We have synthesized carbon nanotubes by thermal chemical vapor deposition of C2H2 on transition metal-coated silicon substrates. Multiwalled carbon nanotubes are uniformly synthesized on a large area of the plain Si substrates, different from previously reported porous Si substrates. It is observed that surface modification of transition metals deposited on substrates by either etching with dipping in a HF solution and/or NH3 pretreatment is a crucial step for the nanotube growth prior to the reaction of C2H2 gas. We will demonstrate that the diameters of carbon nanotubes can be controlled by applying the different transition metals.

TL;DR: The BASP classification is a new stepwise, systematic, and universal classification system for PHL, regardless of sex and is used in determining the incidence of PHL.
Abstract: Background Pattern hair loss (PHL) can be classified into several patterns. Currently, the Hamilton–Norwood classification system for men and the Ludwig grade system for women are commonly used to describe patterns of hair loss. However, these pre-existing classifications have some limitations. Objective To establish an acceptable, universal, and accurate standard of both male and female pattern hair loss and to report its use in determining the incidence of PHL. Methods We developed a new classification system (BASP classification) and then applied this system to classify the types of PHL. The BASP classification was based on observed patterns of hair loss. The basic (BA) types represent the shape of the anterior hairline, and the specific types (SP) represent the density of hair on distinct areas (frontal and vertex). There are four basic types (L, M, C, and U) and two specific types (F and V). The final type is decided by the combination of the assigned basic and specific types. Between November 2004 and June 2005, 2213 Korean subjects, comprised of 1768 males and 445 females, were classified according to the BASP classification at 13 university dermatologic centers nationwide throughout South Korea, as a multicenter study of the Korean Hair Research Society. Results For both sexes, the majority of patients enrolled in the study were in the third and fourth decade of life (65.1% of males and 56.68% of females). In males, the older group as well as the younger group in the study were more likely to have little recession of the frontal hairline (classified as type M1∼2) and diffuse thinning over the top of scalp (type F1∼2). The women in the study developed typical female PHL. Limitations The subjects of our study were mostly outpatients and some inpatients who complained about hair loss, not the general population of Korea. Conclusion The BASP classification is a new stepwise, systematic, and universal classification system for PHL, regardless of sex.

TL;DR: In this paper, the synthesis of two-dimensional Co3S4 in a nanothickness sheet-like morphology via simple hydrothermal process and its application to electrochemical energy storage devices was reported.
Abstract: We report the synthesis of two-dimensional (2D) Co3S4 in a nanothickness sheetlike morphology via simple hydrothermal process and its application to electrochemical energy-storage devices. The presence of unique mesopores with a combination of core/shell nanoparticles in the nanosheets showed superior electrochemical performances as a negative electrode for a Li-ion battery (LIB) and an electrocatalyst in Li–O2 battery applications. A high discharge capacity of ∼968 mAh g–1 is noted after 60 cycles with excellent cycling stability when evaluated as an anode for a LIB. On the other hand, the first discharge capacity of ∼5917 mAh g–1 is observed with a high reversibility of 95.72% for the Li–O2 battery point of view. This exceptional electrochemical performance in both applications is mainly attributed to the presence of mesoporous with core/shell 2D nanostructure, which translates more catalytic bifunctional (oxygen reduction reaction/oxygen evolution reaction) active sites for Li–O2 and sustains the volum...
