TL;DR: In this paper, Palladium (Pd) nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized and sensitized on the surface of heterojunction sensor material to enhance the gas response, which showed higher selectivity towards H2 gas for both the sensors.

TL;DR: This review briefly describes examples where exposure to air pollutants was involved in liver toxicity, focusing on how particulate matter or carbon black may be translocated from lung to liver and what liver diseases are closely associated with these air pollutants.
Abstract: Recent episodes of severe air pollution in eastern Asia have been reported in the scientific literature and news media. Therefore, there is growing concern about the systemic effects of air pollution on human health. Along with the other well-known harmful effects of air pollution, recently, several animal models have provided strong evidence that air pollutants can induce liver toxicity and act to accelerate liver inflammation and steatosis. This review briefly describes examples where exposure to air pollutants was involved in liver toxicity, focusing on how particulate matter (PM) or carbon black (CB) may be translocated from lung to liver and what liver diseases are closely associated with these air pollutants.

TL;DR: The results suggest that these mussel inspired nanocomposite with excellent heating property and controllable multidrug release can be considered as a potential material for cancer therapy.
Abstract: This study reports on an intelligent composite hydrogel with both pH-dependent drug release in a cancer environment and heat generation based on NIR laser exposure, for the combined application of photothermal therapy (PTT) and multidrug chemotherapy. For the first time in the literature, Dopamine nanoparticle (DP) was incorporated as a highly effective photothermal agent as well as anticancer drug, bortezomib (BTZ) carrier inside a stimuli responsive pNIPAAm-co-pAAm hydrogel. When light is applied to the composite hydrogel, DP nanoparticle absorbs the light, which is dissipated locally as heat to impact cancer cells via hyperthermia. On the other hand, facile release of the anticancer drug BTZ from the surface of DP encapsulated hydrogel could be achieved due to the dissociation between catechol groups of DP and the boronic acid functionality of BTZ in typical acidic cancer environment. In order to increase the synergistic effect by dual drug delivery, Doxorubicin (DOXO) were also loaded to pNIPAAm-co-pAAm/DP-BTZ hydrogel and the effect of monotherapy as well as combined therapy were detailed by a complete characterization. Our results suggest that these mussel inspired nanocomposite with excellent heating property and controllable multidrug release can be considered as a potential material for cancer therapy.

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of ionic liquid Aliquat-336 concentration, solution pH, extraction time, and initial multi-metal concentration were examined in details, and the extraction efficiency and selectivity coefficient (α sel ) was shown to be a very fast and effective extractant for selective extraction of Au(III) from the multimetal solutions.

TL;DR: In this article, a vertically aligned ZnO nanorod arrays with a diameter of 40-150nm were fabricated on Al2O3 substrates with and without GaN interlayers by a catalyst-free metal-organic vapour phase epitaxy method and X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy measurements demonstrated that the hybrid structures had a well-ordered wurtzite structure with no lattice mismatch between the film and nanorods.
Abstract: Vertically aligned ZnO nanorod arrays with a diameter of 40–150 nm were fabricated on Al2O3 substrates with and without GaN interlayers, and consequently covered with a ZnO film in situ by a catalyst-free metal–organic vapour phase epitaxy method. X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy measurements demonstrated that the ZnO film/nanorods hybrid structures had a well-ordered wurtzite structure with no lattice mismatch between the film and nanorods, and that the film was homoepitaxially grown horizontally as well as vertically on the pre-grown nanorods. From n-ZnO film/nanorods/p-GaN heterojunctions, we observed a blue light emission with a wavelength of about 440 nm.
