TL;DR: Ternary AlInN was grown by metal-organic chemical-vapor deposition in the high Al composition regime as mentioned in this paper, and the band-gap energy was measured by optical absorption spectroscopy at room temperature.
Abstract: Ternary AlInN was grown by metal–organic chemical-vapor deposition in the high Al composition regime. The band-gap energy of AlInN ternary was measured by optical absorption spectroscopy at room temperature. The band-gap energy of Al0.92In0.08N is 5.26 eV. The potential application of AlInN as a barrier material for GaN is also discussed.

TL;DR: The results are the most restrictive to date on the "displaced supersymmetry" model, with the most stringent limit being obtained for a top squark lifetime corresponding to cτ=2 cm, excluding masses below 790 GeV at 95% confidence level.
Abstract: A search for new long-lived particles decaying to leptons is presented using proton-proton collisions produced by the LHC at root s = 8 TeV. Data used for the analysis were collected by the CMS detector and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb(-1). Events are selected with an electron and muon with opposite charges that both have transverse impact parameter values between 0.02 and 2 cm. The search has been designed to be sensitive to a wide range of models with nonprompt e-mu final states. Limits are set on the "displaced supersymmetry" model, with pair production of top squarks decaying into an e-mu final state via R-parity-violating interactions. The results are the most restrictive to date on this model, with the most stringent limit being obtained for a top squark lifetime corresponding to c tau = 2 cm, excluding masses below 790 GeV at 95% confidence level.

TL;DR: Selective arterial embolization is an effective and safe treatment of AML because the angiomyomatous components crucial for the prevention of bleeding were very sensitive to the embolized components.
Abstract: PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy of selective arterial embolization in symptomatic renal angiomyolipoma (AML) and the change in angiomyogenic components during long-term follow-up after embolization. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fourteen adult patients with symptomatic AMLs underwent 16 selective arterial embolizations. The embolic materials used were absolute alcohol with (n = 5) or without (n = 3) iodized oil, Gianturco coils (n = 4), and polyvinyl alcohol foam powder with gelatin sponge (n = 2). Follow-up ultrasonography and computed tomography (CT) were performed in six and 14 patients, respectively. The effectiveness of selective arterial embolization was evaluated on the basis of the area of the angiomyogenic components in the AML on initial and follow-up images and clinical improvement. RESULTS: All patients showed devascularization of the tumor on the postembolization angiograms. In 13 patients, clinical symptoms disappeared. The follow-up period was 7-72 months (mean, 33 months). One patient underwent...

TL;DR: The elevated serum blood glucose levels, insulin levels, and dyslipidemia in diabetic rats were significantly improved by QE, RS, and combined treatments, and cotreatment with QE and RS has the potential for use as an alternative therapeutic strategy for diabetes.
Abstract: Quercetin and resveratrol are known to have beneficial effects on the diabetes and diabetic complication, however, the effects of combined treatment of these compounds on diabetes are not fully revealed. Therefore, the present study was designed to investigate the combined antidiabetic action of quercetin (QE) and resveratrol (RS) in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. To test the effects of co-treated with these compounds on diabetes, serum glucose, insulin, lipid profiles, oxidative stress biomarkers, and ions were determined. Additionally, the activities of hepatic glucose metabolic enzymes and histological analyses of pancreatic tissues were evaluated. 50 male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into five groups; normal control, 50 mg/kg STZ-induced diabetic, and three (30 mg/kg QE, 10 mg/kg RS, and combined) compound-treated diabetic groups. The elevated serum blood glucose levels, insulin levels, and dyslipidemia in diabetic rats were significantly improved by QE, RS, and combined treatments. Oxidative stress and tissue injury biomarkers were dramatically inhibited by these compounds. They also shown to improve the hematological parameters which were shown to the hyperlactatemia and ketoacidosis as main causes of diabetic complications. The compounds treatment maintained the activities of hepatic glucose metabolic enzymes and structure of pancreatic β-cells from the diabetes, and it is noteworthy that cotreatment with QE and RS showed the most preventive effect on the diabetic rats. Therefore, our study suggests that cotreatment with QE and RS has beneficial effects against diabetes. We further suggest that cotreatment with QE and RS has the potential for use as an alternative therapeutic strategy for diabetes.
