TL;DR: Flower-shaped ZnO nanostructures grown on Si(100) and Si(111) substrates by cyclic feeding chemical vapour deposition without the use of a metal catalyst showed sharp and strong UV emission at 378 nm and broad and weak green emission at 520 nm, indicating a good crystal quality and few structural defects.
Abstract: Flower-shaped ZnO nanostructures were grown on Si(100) and Si(111) substrates by cyclic feeding chemical vapour deposition without the use of a metal catalyst. The structures obtained on the Si(100) substrate exhibited triangle-shaped leaves with lengths and diameters in the ranges 300-400 and 90-130 nm, respectively. Uniformly shaped leaves with hexagonal facets originating from one centre were observed on the flower-shaped structures grown on the Si(111) substrate. Transmission electron microscopy and selected area electron diffraction patterns showed that these structures are highly crystalline, with the wurtzite hexagonal phase, and preferentially oriented in the c-axis direction. Unlike star-shaped ZnO nanostructures grown on Au-coated silicon substrates, the flower-shaped nanostructures showed sharp and strong UV emission at 378 nm and broad and weak green emission at 520 nm, indicating a good crystal quality and few structural defects.

TL;DR: In this article, a hierarchical CoMoO4-MnO2 core-shell and Fe2O3 nanosheet arrays on 3D graphene foam (GF) were used as a binder-free electrode in supercapacitor applications.
Abstract: Recently, graphene-based three-dimensional (3D) architectures have attracted a lot of attention because of their multifunctional properties. In this paper, we report on hierarchical nanohoneycomb-like CoMoO4–MnO2 core–shell and Fe2O3 nanosheet arrays on 3D graphene foam (GF) and explore their use as a binder-free electrode in supercapacitor applications. The GF was prepared by solution casting on a Ni foam scaffold. The nanohoneycomb-like CoMoO4–MnO2 core–shell nanosheet arrays were prepared by a hydrothermal method under optimized conditions. The unique core–shell network provides efficient space and a short diffusion length for faradaic reactions. The as-synthesized CoMoO4–MnO2@GF hybrid electrode exhibits excellent areal and specific capacitances of 8.01 F cm−2 and 2666.7 F g−1, respectively, at a current density of 3 mA cm−2. In addition, Fe2O3@GF was also prepared using a hydrothermal process followed by hydrogen treatment. Under optimized conditions Fe2O3@GF exhibits a high areal capacitance of 1.26 (572.7 F g−1) F cm−2. The asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) assembled from CoMoO4–MnO2@GF as the positive electrode and Fe2O3@GF as the negative electrode delivers an excellent specific capacitance of 237 F g−1 and a high rate capability of 61%. Moreover, the as-fabricated ASC also exhibits an ultra-high energy density of 84.4 W h kg−1 and an outstanding power density of 16 122 W kg−1 as well as an exceptional capacitance retention of 92.1% after 10 000 cycles.

TL;DR: An inclusive search for the standard model Higgs boson produced with large transverse momentum (p_{T}) and decaying to a bottom quark-antiquark pair (bb[over ¯]) is performed using a data set of pp collisions collected with the CMS experiment at the LHC.
Abstract: An inclusive search for the standard model Higgs boson (H) produced with large transverse momentum (p_T) and decaying to a bottom quark-antiquark pair (bb) is performed using a data set of pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV collected with the CMS experiment at the LHC. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of
35.9 fb^(−1). A highly Lorentz-boosted Higgs boson decaying to bb is reconstructed as a single, large radius jet, and it is identified using jet substructure and dedicated b tagging techniques. The method is validated with Z → bb decays. The Z → bb process is observed for the first time in the single-jet topology with a local significance of 5.1 standard deviations (5.8 expected). For a Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV, an excess of events above the expected background is observed (expected) with a local significance of 1.5 (0.7) standard deviations. The measured cross section times branching fraction for production via gluon fusion of H → bb with reconstructed p_T > 450 GeV and in the pseudorapidity range −2.5 < η < 2.5 is 74 ± 48 (stat)^(+17)_(−10)(syst) fb, which is consistent within uncertainties with the standard model prediction.

TL;DR: The effects of EGCG in attenuating the inflammatory response induced by interleukin (IL)-1beta+beta-amyloid (25-35) fragment (Abeta) fragment in human astrocytoma, U373MG cells are investigated to provide new insight into the pharmacological actions of E GCG and its potential therapeutic application to various neurodegenerative diseases such as AD.
Abstract: Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) is the major polyphenol component of green tea and is primarily responsible for the green tea effect. EGCG possesses two triphenolic groups in its structure. These groups are reported to be important with respect to anticarcinogenic and antioxidant effects. However, the anti-inflammatory effect of EGCG on Alzheimer's disease (AD) is still not fully understood. In this study, we investigated the effects of EGCG in attenuating the inflammatory response induced by interleukin (IL)-1β+β-amyloid (25–35) fragment (Aβ) in human astrocytoma, U373MG cells. EGCG significantly inhibited the IL-1β+Aβ (25–35)-induced IL-6, IL-8, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and prostaglandin (PG)E2 production at 24 h (P<.01). The maximal inhibition rate of IL-6, IL-8, VEGF and PGE2 production by EGCG was approximately 54.40%, 56.01%, 69.06% and 47.03%, respectively. EGCG also attenuated the expression of cyclooxygenase-2 and activation of nuclear factor-κB induced by IL-1β+Aβ (25–35). We demonstrated that EGCG suppresses IL-1β+Aβ (25–35)-induced phosphorylation of the mitogen-activated protein kinase p38 and the c-Jun N-terminal kinase. In addition, EGCG induced the expression of mitogen-activated protein kinase phosphatase-1. These results provide new insight into the pharmacological actions of EGCG and its potential therapeutic application to various neurodegenerative diseases such as AD.
