Abstract: A facile two-step strategy is developed to design the large-scale synthesis of hierarchical, unique porous architecture of ternary metal hydroxide nanowires grown on porous 3D Ni foam and subsequent effective sulfurization. The hierarchical Zn–Co–S nanowires (NWs) arrays are directly employed as an electrode for supercapacitors application. The as-synthesized Zn–Co–S NWs deliver an ultrahigh areal capacity of 0.9 mA h cm−2 (specific capacity of 366.7 mA h g−1) at a current density of 3 mA cm−2, with an exceptional rate capability (≈227.6 mA h g−1 at a very high current density of 40 mA cm−2) and outstanding cycling stability (≈93.2% of capacity retention after 10 000 cycles). Most significantly, the assembled Zn–Co–S NWs//Fe2O3@reduced graphene oxide asymmetric supercapacitors with a wide operating potential window of ≈1.6 V yield an ultrahigh volumetric capacity of ≈1.98 mA h cm−3 at a current density of 3 mA cm−2, excellent energy density of ≈81.6 W h kg−1 at a power density of ≈559.2 W kg−1, and exceptional cycling performance (≈92.1% of capacity retention after 10 000 cycles). This general strategy provides an alternative to design the other ternary metal sulfides, making it facile, free-standing, binder-free, and cost-effective ternary metal sulfide-based electrodes for large-scale applications in modern electronics.

Abstract: The heterogeneous cellular network (HCN) is a promising approach to the deployment of 5G cellular networks. This paper comprehensively studies physical layer security in a multitier HCN where base stations (BSs), authorized users, and eavesdroppers are all randomly located. We first propose an access threshold-based secrecy mobile association policy that associates each user with the BS providing the maximum truncated average received signal power beyond a threshold. Under the proposed policy, we investigate the connection probability and secrecy probability of a randomly located user and provide tractable expressions for the two metrics. Asymptotic analysis reveals that setting a larger access threshold increases the connection probability while decreases the secrecy probability. We further evaluate the network-wide secrecy throughput and the minimum secrecy throughput per user with both connection and secrecy probability constraints. We show that introducing a properly chosen access threshold significantly enhances the secrecy throughput performance of a HCN.

Abstract: Purpose Gastric cancer cell lines, particularly those with low levels of ataxia telangiectasia mutated (ATM), a key activator of DNA damage response, are sensitive to the poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitor olaparib. We compared the efficacy of olaparib plus paclitaxel (olaparib/paclitaxel) with paclitaxel alone in patients with recurrent or metastatic gastric cancer and assessed whether low ATM expression is predictive of improved clinical outcome for olaparib/paclitaxel. Patients and Methods In this phase II, double-blind study (Study 39; NCT01063517), patients were randomly assigned to oral olaparib 100 mg twice per day (tablets) plus paclitaxel (80 mg/m2 per day intravenously on days 1, 8, and 15 of every 28-day cycle) or placebo plus paclitaxel (placebo/paclitaxel), followed by maintenance monotherapy with olaparib (200 mg twice per day) or placebo. Abstract: The reduction of toxic Cr(VI) to the less or nontoxic Cr(III) may be an useful detoxification technique for the treatment of Cr(VI)-contaminated waters. Recently, the protonated biomass of brown seaweed, Ecklonia, was shown to completely reduce Cr(VI) to Cr(III) in the pH range 1-5. The reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III) appeared to occur at the surface of the biomass. In this study, abiotic Cr(VI) reduction by the biomass was performed with various contact times, pHs and initial Cr(VI) concentrations, and surface and bulk characteristics of the Cr-laden biomass was then investigated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). The XPS spectra indicated that the Cr(VI) bound to the biomass was completely reduced to Cr(III) at tested various conditions. XANES and EXAFS spectra of the Cr-laden biomass were very similar to those of Cr(III)-acetate, which means that the Cr bound to the biomass during Cr(VI) reduction had an octahedral geometrical arrangement. The bonding distance of the chromium oxygen atoms was approximately 1.97-1.99 A. In conclusion, it was obvious that oxygen containing groups, such as carboxyl and phenolic groups, play a major role in the binding of the Cr(III) resulting from the abiotic reduction of Cr(VI) by the biomass.
