TL;DR: Gold nanoparticles have been synthesized from the supernatant, live cell filtrate, and biomass of the fungus Penicillium brevicompactum to optimize the morphology and dispersity of the synthesized gold nanoparticles.
Abstract: Microorganisms, their cell filtrates, and live biomass have been utilized for synthesizing various gold nanoparticles. The shape, size, stability as well as the purity of the bio synthesized nanoparticles become very essential for application purpose. In the present study, gold nanoparticles have been synthesized from the supernatant, live cell filtrate, and biomass of the fungus Penicillium brevicompactum. The fungus has been grown in potato dextrose broth which is also found to synthesize gold nanoparticles. The size of the particles has been investigated by Bio-TEM before purification, following purification and after storing the particles for 3 months under refrigerated condition. Different characterization techniques like X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and UV–visible spectroscopy have been used for analysis of the particles. The effect of reaction parameters such as pH and concentration of gold salt have also been monitored to optimize the morphology and dispersity of the synthesized gold nanoparticles. A pH range of 5 to 8 has favored the synthesis process whereas increasing concentration of gold salt (beyond 2 mM) has resulted in the formation of bigger sized and aggregated nanoparticles. Additionally, the cytotoxic nature of prepared nanoparticles has been analyzed using mouse mayo blast cancer C2C12 cells at different time intervals (24, 48, and 72 h) of incubation period. The cells are cultivated in Dulbecco’s modified Eagle’s medium supplemented with fetal bovine serum with antibiotics (streptopenicillin) at 37°C in a 5% humidified environment of CO2. The medium has been replenished every other day, and the cells are subcultured after reaching the confluence. The viability of the cells is analyzed with 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide method.

TL;DR: In this article, upper limits on the product of the cross section and branching fraction of such a signal are presented as a function of the long-lived particle's mean proper decay length.
Abstract: A search is performed for long-lived particles that decay into final states that include a pair of electrons or a pair of muons. The experimental signature is a distinctive topology consisting of a pair of charged leptons originating from a displaced secondary vertex. Events corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.6 (20.5) inverse femtobarns in the electron (muon) channel were collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV. No significant excess is observed above standard model expectations. Upper limits on the product of the cross section and branching fraction of such a signal are presented as a function of the long-lived particle's mean proper decay length. The limits are presented in an approximately model-independent way, allowing them to be applied to a wide class of models yielding the above topology. Over much of the investigated parameter space, the limits obtained are the most stringent to date. In the specific case of a model in which a Higgs boson in the mass range 125-1000 GeV decays into a pair of long-lived neutral bosons in the mass range 20-350 GeV, each of which can then decay to dileptons, the upper limits obtained are typically in the range 0.2-10 fb for mean proper decay lengths of the long-lived particles in the range 0.01-100 cm. In the case of the lowest Higgs mass considered (125 GeV), the limits are in the range 2-50 fb. These limits are sensitive to Higgs boson branching fractions as low as 1E-4.

TL;DR: This paper proposes a method for the prediction of the EC customer's purchase behavior by combining multiple classifiers based on genetic algorithm and shows better performance than individual classifiers and other known combining methods.
Abstract: In these days, EC companies are eager to learn about their customers using data mining technologies. But the diverse situations of such companies make it difficult to know which is the most effective algorithm for the given problems. Recently, a movement towards combining multiple classifiers has emerged to improve classification results. In this paper, we propose a method for the prediction of the EC customer's purchase behavior by combining multiple classifiers based on genetic algorithm. The method was tested and evaluated using Web data from a leading EC company. We also tested the validity of our approach in general classification problems using handwritten numerals. In both cases, our method shows better performance than individual classifiers and other known combining methods we tried.
