TL;DR: The triblock copolymer is composed of two identical hydrophilic segments Monomethoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (mPEG) and one hydrophobic segment poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) and the physicochemical properties and in vitro tests, including cytotoxicity of the micelles, have been characterized.
Abstract: The triblock copolymer is composed of two identical hydrophilic segments: Monomethoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (mPEG) and one hydrophobic segment poly(e‑caprolactone) (PCL); which is synthesized by coupling of mPEG-PCL-OH and mPEG‑COOH in a mild condition using dicyclohexylcarbodiimide and 4-dimethylamino pyridine. The amphiphilic block copolymer can self-assemble into nanoscopic micelles to accommodate doxorubixin (DOX) in the hydrophobic core. The physicochemical properties and in vitro tests, including cytotoxicity of the micelles, have been characterized in our previous study. In this study, DOX was encapsulated into micelles with a drug loading content of 8.5%. Confocal microscopy indicated that DOX was internalized into the cytoplasm via endocystosis. A dose-finding scheme of the polymeric micelle (placebo) showed a safe dose of PEG-PCL-PEG micelles was 71.4 mg/kg in mice. Importantly, the circulation time of DOX-loaded micelles in the plasma significantly increased compared to that of free DOX in rats. A biodistribution study displayed that plasma extravasation of DOX in liver and spleen occurred in the first four hours. Lastly, the tumor growth of human breast cancer cells in nude mice was suppressed by multiple injections (5 mg/kg, three times daily on day 0, 7 and 14) of DOX-loaded micelles as compared to multiple administrations of free DOX.

TL;DR: An effective static/quasi-static error compensation system composed of an interpolation algorithm based on shape functions for error prediction, and a recursive software compensation procedure, which is efficient enough to be implemented on-line, taking into consideration the fact that the machine structure is non-rigid.
Abstract: To enhance a machine’s ability for a precision machining task, an efficient compensation scheme that takes all error sources into account is needed. In this study, an effective static/quasi-static error compensation system composed of an interpolation algorithm based on shape functions for error prediction, and a recursive software compensation procedure, was developed. The new error prediction scheme is efficient enough to be implemented on-line, taking into consideration the fact that the machine structure is non-rigid. In addition, an automatic NC code converting software was also developed so that the developed system could be applied to practical machining for CNC multi-axis machines. To verify the algorithm and system, cutting experiments were conducted, and the results have shown the success of the proposed error compensation system.

TL;DR: It is shown that the thermal stability and mechanical properties of epoxy are simultaneously improved with the addition of C60-PEI-rGO, which may pioneer a new and efficient method to fabricate fire retardant thermosetting resins with simultaneously other improved properties.
Abstract: A C60-PEI-rGO hybrid was prepared by incorporating the fullerene (C60) on the surface of PEI-modified reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and then used to modify the epoxy (EP) resin. Subsequently, the structure of GO and C60-PEI-rGO hybrid were well characterized, showing that the C60 was homogenously anchored on the surface of PEI-rGO. The flame retardancy, mechanical properties, and thermal stability of as-prepared C60-PEI-rGO/EP nanocomposites were systematically investigated. Results show that the C60-PEI-rGO hybrid exhibits high flame retarding efficiency for EP. Specifically, the time to ignition of epoxy increases from 68 to 89 s with the addition of 1.0 wt% C60-PEI-rGO, which are unusual in polymer nanocomposites. In the meantime, the peaks of the heat release rate and total heat release of the modified epoxy reduce by 40.0% and 15.6%, respectively. The synergistic flame retardant mechanism of C60-PEI-rGO to EP is attributed to its unique structure combining both the high efficiency in capturing free radicals by C60, the barrier effect of layered of rGO and increase of crosslinking density of epoxy. It is shown that the thermal stability and mechanical properties of epoxy are simultaneously improved with the addition of C60-PEI-rGO. This work may pioneer a new and efficient method to fabricate fire retardant thermosetting resins with simultaneously other improved properties.
