TL;DR: A novel epoxy system was developed through the in situ curing of bisphenol A type epoxy and 4,4′-diaminodiphenylmethane with the sol-gel reaction of a phosphorus-containing trimethoxysilane (DOPO-GPTMS) as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: A novel epoxy system was developed through the in situ curing of bisphenol A type epoxy and 4,4′-diaminodiphenylmethane with the sol–gel reaction of a phosphorus-containing trimethoxysilane (DOPO–GPTMS), which was prepared from the reaction of 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO) with 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTMS). The preparation of DOPO–GPTMS was confirmed with Fourier transform infrared, 1H and 31P NMR, and elemental analysis. The resulting organic–inorganic hybrid epoxy resins exhibited a high glass-transition temperature (167 °C), good thermal stability over 320 °C, and a high limited oxygen index of 28.5. The synergism of phosphorus and silicon on flame retardance was observed. Moreover, the kinetics of the thermal oxidative degradation of the hybrid epoxy resins were studied. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 41: 2354–2367, 2003

TL;DR: An adaptive fuzzy sliding-mode control system, which combines the merits of sliding- mode control, the fuzzy inference mechanism and the adaptive algorithm, is proposed and position control of a permanent magnet synchronous servo motor drive using the proposed control strategies is illustrated.
Abstract: An adaptive fuzzy sliding-mode control system, which combines the merits of sliding-mode control, the fuzzy inference mechanism and the adaptive algorithm, is proposed. First a sliding-mode controller with an integral-operation switching surface is designed. Then a fuzzy sliding-mode controller is investigated in which a simple fuzzy inference mechanism is used to estimate the upper bound of uncertainties. The fuzzy inference mechanism with centre adaptation of membership functions is investigated to estimate the optimal bound of uncertainties. Position control of a permanent magnet synchronous servo motor drive using the proposed control strategies is illustrated.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors assess renewable energy sources from a supply chain perspective and present an investigation of renewable energies focusing on four main components: renewable energy supply chain, renewable energy performance, and barriers and strategies to its development.
Abstract: Due to the depletion of traditional energy resources, such as crude oil, coal, and natural gas, many initiatives all over the world have addressed the efficient use or replacement of these resources. Several renewable energy sources have been introduced as alternatives to traditional sources to protect environmental resources and to improve the quality of life. This study assesses renewable energy sources from a supply chain perspective and presents an investigation of renewable energies focusing on four main components: renewable energy supply chain, renewable energy performance, and barriers and strategies to its development. The study provides managerial insights to governments, researchers, and stakeholders for the initiation of renewable energy use, and suggestions for overcoming the barriers to its development.

TL;DR: In this article, the MgAl-layered double hydroxide (LDH) was modified with polyethylene polyamine (PP) and tannic acid (TA) to improve the adsorption property of heavy metal ions.
Abstract: The MgAl-layered double hydroxide (LDH) was modified with polyethylene polyamine (PP) and tannic acid (TA) to improve the adsorption property of heavy metal ions. The PP@TA encapsulated LDH (denoted as LDH-PP@TA) was prepared via the combination of catechol chemistry and Michael addition and/or Schiff base reaction and characterized through TEM, FT-IR, SEM, TGA, and XPS. The adsorption performance was investigated by using LDH-PP@TA as adsorbent to adsorb the copper (II) ions from aqueous solution. The effect of contact time, solution pH, initial copper (II) ions concentration and temperature were investigated. The LDH-PP@TA exhibited high adsorption capacity of 41.56 mg/g, which is almost double that by LDH (23.39 mg/g). Equilibrium data for adsorption of copper (II) ions on adsorbents could be well fitted by the pseudo-second-order and Langmuir equations. Thermodynamic studies show the adsorption process is spontaneous and endothermic. Electrostatic adhesion and formation of copper complex are the major mechanisms for the copper (II) ions removal by LDH-PP@TA. These results reveal the great potential of LDH-PP@TA in the application of heavy metal ions removal.

TL;DR: Two types of driving signals are proposed, namely, fuzzy driving signal and crisp driving signal, to deal with the asymptotical synchronization and secure communication problems for cases i) and ii), respectively, and the solutions are found by solving LMI problems.
Abstract: This paper presents synthesis approaches for synchronization and secure communications of chaotic systems by using fuzzy model-based design methods. Many well-known continuous and discrete chaotic systems can be exactly represented by T-S fuzzy models with only one premise variable. According to the applications on synchronization and signal modulation, the general fuzzy models may have either i) common bias terms; or ii) the same premise variable and driving signal. Then we propose two types of driving signals, namely, fuzzy driving signal and crisp driving signal, to deal with the asymptotical synchronization and secure communication problems for cases i) and ii), respectively. Based on these driving signals, the solutions are found by solving LMI problems. It is worthy to note that many well-known chaotic systems, such as Duffing system, Chua's circuit. Rassler's system, Lorenz system, Henon map, and Lozi map can achieve their applications on asymptotical synchronization and recovering messages in secure communication by using either the fuzzy driving signal or the crisp driving signal. Finally, several numerical simulations are shown to verify the results.
