Abstract: As a result of modifications to a program during the maintenance phase, the size of a test suite used for regression testing can become unmanageable. The authors present a technique that selects from a test suite a representative set of test cases that provides the same measure of coverage as the test suite. This selection is performed by the identification of the redundant and obsolete test cases in the test suite. The representative set can be used to reduce the size of the test suite by substituting for the test suite. The representative set can also be used to determine those test cases that should be rerun to test the program after it has been changed. The technique is independent of the testing methodology and only requires an association between each testing requirement and the test cases that satisfy the requirement. The technique is illustrated by means of the data flow testing methodology. Experimental studies are being performed that demonstrate the effectiveness of the technique. >

Abstract: Carbon nanotubes are functionalized by bovine serum albumin (BSA) proteins via diimide-activated amidation under ambient conditions. The nanotube-BSA conjugates thus obtained are highly water-soluble, forming dark-colored aqueous solutions. Results from characterizations using atomic force microscopy (AFM), thermal gravimetric analysis, Raman, and gel electrophoresis show that the conjugate samples indeed contain both carbon nanotubes and BSA proteins and that the protein species are intimately associated with the nanotubes. Bioactivities of the nanotube-bound proteins are evaluated using the total protein micro-determination assay (the modified Lowry procedure). The results show that the overwhelming majority (∼90%) of the protein species in the nanotube-BSA conjugates remain bioactive.

Abstract: Increasing atmospheric CO2 levels have generated much concern, driving the ongoing carbon sequestration effort. A compelling CO2 sequestration option is its photocatalytic conversion to hydrocarbons, for which the use of solar irradiation represents an ultimate solution. Here we report a new strategy of using surface-functionalized small carbon nanoparticles to harvest visible photons for subsequent charge separation on the particle surface in order to drive the efficient photocatalytic process. The aqueous solubility of the catalysts enables photoreduction under more desirable homogeneous reaction conditions. Beyond CO2 conversion, the nanoscale carbon-based photocatalysts are also useful for the photogeneration of H2 from water under similar conditions.
