In this paper, a control is proposed to handle a larger class of mismatched uncertainties by extending the disturbance observer and modifying and generalizing the sliding surface. The practical stability of the overall system is proved and the results are verified by simulation of an illustrative example.

Abstract: In this paper, a feedback linearization (FL)-based control law made implementable using an extended state observer (ESO) is proposed for the trajectory tracking control of a flexible-joint robotic system. The FL-based controller cannot be implemented unless the full transformed state vector is available. The design also requires exact knowledge of the system model making the controller performance sensitive to uncertainties. To address these issues, an ESO is designed, which estimates the state vector, as well as the uncertainties in an integrated manner. The FL controller uses the states estimated by ESO, and the effect of uncertainties is compensated by augmenting the FL controller with the ESO-estimated uncertainties. The closed-loop stability of the system under the proposed observer-controller structure is established. The effectiveness of the ESO in the estimation of the states and uncertainties and the effectiveness of the FL + ESO controller in tracking are demonstrated through simulations. Lastly, the efficacy of the proposed approach is validated through experimentation on Quanser's flexible-joint module.

It highlights developments in the field of fractional PID controllers, including their design and tuning, as well as explores their various versions. Software tools associated to the design of fractional PID controllers are also discussed.

Abstract: Ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS), a by-product of the steel manufacturing industry, being used as an effective partial cement replacement material, has already been proven to improve several performance characteristics of concrete. The reactivity of GGBFS has been found to depend on the properties of slag, which vary with the source of slag, type of raw material used, method and the rate of cooling. The present work aims at bringing out a novel relationship between the Hydraulic Index (HI) of slag at 7 and 28 days (HI7 and HI28) and the influencing properties of slag, namely, glass content, fineness and chemical composition by employing multiple regression analysis on 37 slag samples from various sources. HI7 and HI28, thus obtained, have been mapped onto a Slag Activity Index (SAI) plot, giving an indication of the ranges of strength of slag.

Abstract: Conducting polymers (CPs) such as polyaniline (PANI), polypyrrole (PPy), and polythiophene (PTh) are used for the corrosion protection of metals and metal alloys. Several groups have reported diverse views about the corrosion protection by CPs and hence various mechanisms have been suggested to explain anticorrosion properties of CPs. These include anodic protection, controlled inhibitor release as well as barrier protection mechanisms. Different approaches have been developed for the use of CPs in protective coatings (dopants, composites, blends). A judicious choice of synthesis parameters leads to an improvement in the anticorrosion properties of the coatings prepared by CPs for metals and their alloys. This article is prepared as a review of the application of CPs for corrosion protection of metal alloys.
