TL;DR: In this article, an effort has been made to evaluate an existing analytical model to predict the time to concrete cover cracking by incorporating the experimentally obtained and published data on porous zone thickness.
Abstract: Service life of a reinforced concrete structure depends on its durability in aggressive exposure conditions. In the case of reinforced concrete structures, the phenomenon that directly affects its durability is corrosion of rebar, which has direct influence on the residual service life. Corrosion in reinforced concrete basically initiates at its weakest zone called steel–concrete interface due to its porous nature. The extent of this porous zone is being represented in terms of Porous zone thickness which has been extensively reported by various researchers. This porous zone thickness is one of the key influencing factors in the prediction of residual service life of the reinforced concrete structure. Several mathematical models were proposed by various researchers to estimate the time required for cover cracking of concrete due to rebar corrosion by assuming different values of porous zone thickness (PZT) without any systematic experimental investigation. Assuming a steady value of PZT for all kinds of concrete without any practical justification will misinterpret the predicted residual service life. In the present work, an effort has been made to evaluate an existing analytical model to predict the time to concrete cover cracking by incorporating the experimentally obtained and published data on porous zone thickness. It was found that the porous zone thickness and rate of corrosion have a major role in evaluating the residual service life of reinforced concrete structures.

TL;DR: HMM-based speech synthesis system (SPSS) for the Marathi language is described and the subjective quality measures shows that the HMMs with seven hidden states are capable of giving an adequate quality of synthesized speech as compared to five state and with less time complexity than seven state HMMs.
Abstract: Hidden Markov Model and Deep Neural Networks based Statistical Parametric Speech Synthesis systems, gain a significant attention from researchers because of their flexibility in generating speech waveforms in diverse voice qualities as well as in styles. This paper describes HMM-based speech synthesis system (SPSS) for the Marathi language. In proposed synthesis method, speech parameter trajectories used for synthesis are generated from the trained hidden Markov models (HMM). We have recorded our database of 5300 phonetically balanced Marathi sentences to train the context-dependent HMM with five, seven and nine hidden states. The subjective quality measures (MOS and PWP) shows that the HMMs with seven hidden states are capable of giving an adequate quality of synthesized speech as compared to five state and with less time complexity than seven state HMMs. The contextual features used for experimentation are inclusive of a position of an observed phoneme in a respective syllable, word, and sentence.

TL;DR: This paper presents simultaneous estimation of states and disturbance in a DC servo motor system where the output estimation error is made zero in finite time due to sliding modes.
Abstract: This paper presents simultaneous estimation of states and disturbance. The output estimation error is made zero in finite time due to sliding modes. The estimated disturbance is used to compensate the disturbance acting in the system. The sliding mode control together with these estimations is studied and analyzed. A DC servo motor is considered as a plant for which the above method is used. The method is validated in simulation and experiment both.

TL;DR: In this paper, robust output feedback control for positioning a tip of flexible link manipulator (FLM) is presented. And sliding mode observer (SMO) is designed for an extended state system wherein disturbance is considered as an additional state.
Abstract: This paper presents robust output feedback control for positioning a tip of flexible link manipulator (FLM). Sliding mode observer (SMO) is designed for an extended state system wherein disturbance is considered as an additional state. The SMO provides estimates of state and disturbance. The estimated disturbance is used to compensate the disturbance acting in the system by updating the control. The sliding mode control (SMC) is designed for position control of tip of FLM. The method is validated in both simulation and experiment.
