TL;DR: In this paper, a numerical procedure to study one-dimensional waves in solids is considered in application to longitudinal loading of elastic-plastic rods of a variable cross section, assuming direct mathematical modelling of mechanical perturbations.
Abstract: A numerical procedure to study one-dimensional waves in solids is considered in application to longitudinal loading of elastic-plastic rods of a variable cross section. The procedure assumes direct mathematical modelling of mechanical perturbations. Multiple reflections of waves from the rod ends, alternating signs of stress, influence of isotropic and anisotropic hardening, and the Bauschinger effect are taken into account. A detailed description of stress waves in elastic-plastic rods of a variable cross section at the impact of a rigid body is presented.

TL;DR: In this article, an experimental and 3D viscous numerical performances of the transonic compressor stage were obtained for two values of rotor tip clearance, equal to 0.76% and 2.66% of blade height.
Abstract: Widening of surge margin of a transonic compressor stage is the main objective of the paper. This stage is a typical middle stage of a modern high pressure compressor (HPC) with decreased number of stages. Hot tip clearance of the stage being integrated into a six-stage HPC providing total pressure ratio π* HPC ≥ 12 and mass flow-rate < 16 kg/sec is estimated at 2.5 – 3% of blade height and is classified as a large tip clearance. In this paper experimental and 3D viscous numerical performances of the stage are obtained for two values of rotor tip clearance — equal to 0.76% (small size) and 2.66% (large size) of blade height. In doing so, tip clearance enlargement from 0.76% to 2.66% has been made by increase of casing (shroud) radius. This increase is manufactured as a circumferential trench (recess) with axial width 30% larger than rotor axial chord. Below this tip clearance is called “recessed” tip clearance. A distinguishing feature of leakage flow in case of large tip clearance is a formation of reversed flow near rotor casing. This backflow being intensified by throttling causes increase of incidence at the rotor leading edge and development of rotor stall. Casing treatments are intended to inhibit and delay the process. Among them circumferential grooves is the simplest casing treatment. Investigated in this paper casing circumferential grooves cover 82% of rotor axial chord. Numerical visualization of the near-casing streamlines demonstrates that tip leakage flow drains into the casing grooves giving rise to extended domains of positive axial velocity. Calculated mass flow-rate through groove’s cross-section demonstrates maximum over the rotor blade tip (flow into the groove) and minimum at mid-pitch (flow out of the groove). Amplitude of this variation depends on the groove location and stage throttling.© 2008 ASME

TL;DR: In this article, a two-step method was proposed to estimate the structural parameters of SDE with the help of regression spline and smoothing spline, and the results showed that the mean square errors for stochastic model with parameters estimated using optimal knot for 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 runs of Brownian motions are smaller than the SDE models with estimated parameters using knot selected heuristically.
Abstract: Non-parametric modeling is a method which relies heavily on data and motivated by the smoothness properties in estimating a function which involves spline and non-spline approaches. Spline approach consists of regression spline and smoothing spline. Regression spline with Bayesian approach is considered in the first step of a two-step method in estimating the structural parameters for stochastic differential equation (SDE). The selection of knot and order of spline can be done heuristically based on the scatter plot. To overcome the subjective and tedious process of selecting the optimal knot and order of spline, an algorithm was proposed. A single optimal knot is selected out of all the points with exception of the first and the last data which gives the least value of Generalized Cross Validation (GCV) for each order of spline. The use is illustrated using observed data of opening share prices of Petronas Gas Bhd. The results showed that the Mean Square Errors (MSE) for stochastic model with parameters estimated using optimal knot for 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 runs of Brownian motions are smaller than the SDE models with estimated parameters using knot selected heuristically. This verified the viability of the two-step method in the estimation of the drift and diffusion parameters of SDE with an improvement of a single knot selection.

TL;DR: In Mexico, during the years 2007–2017, there has been an increase in the proportion of male TB patients, and it remains necessary to implement strategies to detect TB in the adult population, especially among men, because tuberculosis could be difficult to recognize in an early stage in the population, and the appearance of resistant strains can cause an increased in the incidence of the disease.
Abstract: Background. To know the current status of the epidemiological and geographic distribution of tuberculosis and its complication meningeal tuberculosis in Mexico, this work analyzes national surveillance data (ten years) issued by the General Directorate of Epidemiology (GDE). Methods. An observational and retrospective analysis of monthly and annual reports of pulmonary and meningeal tuberculosis cases from January 2007 to December 2017 was performed on the annual reports issued by the GDE in Mexico. The number of cases and incidence were classified by year, state, age group, gender, and seasons. Results. A national case distribution map of pulmonary and meningeal tuberculosis incidence was generated. During this period, a total of 184,003 and 3,388 cases were reported with a median of 16,727.5 and 308 cases per year for pulmonary and meningeal tuberculosis diseases, respectively. The number of cases and incidence of pulmonary and meningeal tuberculosis per year showed that male gender presented a continuous increase in both parameters. The geographic analysis of the distribution of cases of tuberculosis showed that states like Guerrero, Tabasco, and Veracruz presented higher means of tuberculosis cases during this period. Northern states had the highest number of cases in the country compared to other states. In Mexico, pulmonary tuberculosis and meningeal tuberculosis are seasonal. Interestingly, cases of meningeal tuberculosis show an increase during October and November (autumn). Conclusions. In Mexico, during the years 2007–2017, there has been an increase in the proportion of male TB patients. It remains necessary to implement strategies to detect TB in the adult population, especially among men, because tuberculosis could be difficult to recognize in an early stage in the population, and the appearance of resistant strains can cause an increase in the incidence of the disease.
