Abstract: For years of time there have been conducted the investigations of gas-turbine engine parts made of carbon-carbon and ceramic materials.This paper presents mainly the results of works done to create engine components of ceramic materials. There are given the investigation results on development of equipment and methods intended for use in determining the characteristics of heat-resistant non-metallic materials under ultra high temperature conditions. The unique tooling is developed to be used for conducting mechanical tests in different conditions (vacuum, protective medium, air) at temperatures up to 2200°C. There are considered three possible fields of application of ceramic materials, that are, turbine (1), combustion chamber and other stator components operating at high temperatures (2), bearings (3). Different ceramic elements are designed and manufactured, their structural strength is investigated in the laboratory faculties and also as part of engine gas generators.Copyright © 1997 by ASME

Abstract: El noroeste peninsular acumula el 85% de la superficie total de Espana destinada a praderas (MARM, 2010). En los ultimos 15 anos la superficie destinada a praderas en Espana se incremento en mas de un 40%, pasando desde 191 500 a 287 500 ha. Por tanto, los trabajos de investigacion, conservacion y mejora de las especies pratenses son vitales para el desarrollo y sostenibilidad agricola en esta zona de la Espana humeda. Desde hace mas de 30 anos se lleva acometiendo en el Centro de Investigaciones Agrarias de Mabegondo (CIAM), una considerable labor de conservacion y utilizacion de los recursos fitogeneticos de las especies pratenses de la Espana humeda, con posible interes en usos agricolas y medioambientales. Estos trabajos de recoleccion, multiplicacion y caracterizacion, proporcionaron la base para la creacion de algunas las variedades comerciales con base genetica autoctona que aun se siguen comercializando. Actualmente, se conservan en Galicia colecciones de semillas pertenecientes a los principales generos de especies pratenses (mas de 1300 muestras de Lolium, Festuca, Poa, Dactilys, Agrostis, Trifolium, Lotus, Medicago, etc.), que representan una magnifica muestra de la diversidad autoctona del noroeste Peninsular, y se consideran de un alto valor estrategico para la creacion de variedades mas adaptadas a las condiciones del norte de Espana. Las colecciones se mantienen en el CIAM, dependiente del Instituto Galego de Calidade Alimentaria (INGACAL), y en la Mision Biologica de Galicia (MBG), dependiente del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas (CSIC). Tambien se conservan duplicados de la mayoria de las entradas en la Coleccion de Reserva del Centro de Recursos Fitogeneticos (CRF) del Instituto Nacional de Tecnologia Agraria y Alimentaria (INIA), y de algunos duplicados en el Banco de Germoplasma del Area de Produccion Vegetal de la Universidad de Oviedo. En este trabajo se resume la labor de recoleccion e investigacion realizada en las ultimas tres decadas acerca de los recursos fitogeneticos de especies pratenses en Galicia, expuesta en mas de medio centenar de trabajos realizados sobre este material conservado.

Abstract: Unsteady blood flow characterized by the generalized power law model in a stenosed artery subject to external body acceleration is considered numerically using the Marker and Cell finite difference discretization on staggered grid, where the pressure is calculated iteratively using the successive-over-relaxation method. The codes have been developed and the results analysed using Matlab. The focus of discussion is on the effects of body acceleration on the flow characteristics, in particular its effects on the wall pressure, pressure drop and the streamlines as these results have not yet been presented and discussed in previous works.
