Abstract: The French bibliographic data-base PASCAL is used to study relations between Research Systems in terms of dependance of a periphery upon a Center.The deployment of disciplines, the productivity and the use of mother tongue of 9 developped countries are quantified (on the Life Science file only).This dependance is also quantified by reference to who studies whom, and in which language the results are available. A search in Life Science and Earth Science files by means of subject terms added by PASCAL indexers at input to papers published by 5 developped countries working on fourteen Latino-american and African countries.

Abstract: Les gaz volcaniques en se refroidissant donnent une phase solide: les sublimes, une phase liquide: les condensats et une phase gazeuse residuelle. Les condensats ont ete analyses sur place puis au laboratoire. Cette technique a ete testee sur differents volcans: A la Soufriere de la Guadeloupe les eruptions phreatiques surviennent apres des periodes de 3 a 7 jours ou le pH des condensats est superieur a 4 ou 5, ces eruptions sont toujours suivies d’une diminution du pH: 1,5 a 2 pendant plusieurs jours. A Pouzzoles et Vulcano les condensats des fumerolles lessives par des acquiferes superficielles ont des pH eleves et une faible mineralisation, les pH bas et les mineralisations elevees correspondant a des gaz peu affectes par les condensations dans le sol.

Abstract: The Auger signal intensities of different elements (e.g. Si, Al, Ca, Mg, O, Fe, etc.) from the surface of a basalt glass are influenced by a strong carbon signal. The carbon signal is considerably reduced by argon ion-milling in-situ, which is associated with the increase in the intensities mainly for Ca, Si and O during the initial period of ion-milling. If this decrease of carbon signal is taken into consideration, then the Auger intensities are found to remain almost constant as a function of ion-milling time, i.e. as a function of distance from the surface towards the inside of the bulk glass up to a considerable distance. The different experimental conditions and the Auger spectrometer are carefully controlled for this depth-profile analysis.
