Abstract: People with disabilities are at an increased risk of unemployment. The role of interventions aiming to enhance the employment prospects of people with disabilities is receiving increased attention. However, evaluation is hampered by the paucity of measures specific to the needs of the target population. The purpose of the present study was to develop and conduct preliminary testing of the psychometric properties of a job-seeking self-efficacy (JSS) scale that reflected the experiences of people with physical disabilities. Job-seeking self-efficacy was defined as perceived ability to perform the skills involved in seeking employment that are salient to people with disabilities. Scale development and testing involved four studies and resulted in the 12-item JSS scale and six-item managing disability at interview (MDI) component, both of which were unidimensional and had high internal consistency. Abstract: We designed a prospective study to examine the influence of graft type (hamstring or patella tendon) on thigh muscle torque recovery after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. 60 patients undergoing ACL reconstruction, using a hamstring or patella tendon graft, were studied and 45 were followed up to 1 year. Concentric and eccentric quadriceps and hamstring torque were recorded, using an isokinetic dynamometer preoperatively, 6 and 12 months after ACL reconstruction. We found an improvement in all muscle functions in both the operated and unoperated legs during the recovery period. Graft type had no effect on recovery. During the first 6 months, torque was restored to preoperative levels and continued to improve in all muscles and actions between 6 months and 1 year.

Abstract: Purpose – The paper seeks to examine both management and psychological literature on strategic decision making. Design/methodology/approach – A review of the management and psychological literature is undertaken, with particular focus on factors affecting strategic decision making. Findings – The literature review reveals that managerial cognition as well as individual and corporate values can have an impact on strategic decision making. The review also finds that strategic competencies are important although there is no agreement within the literature on what those competencies are. Originality/value – Strategic thinking and strategic decision making have been discussed within the psychological and management literature for decades. Psychological and management theoretical perspectives and empirical research have been discussed separately and failed to consider both together. The current paper reviews both psychological and management literature to provide an understanding of the strategic thinking and decision making process and factors that may affect the process.
