TL;DR: In this article, the essential oils from aerial parts of Tagetes minuta L. grown in Egypt, South Africa and the UK were obtained by hydrodistillation, and they had different percentage compositions.
Abstract: The essential oils from aerial parts of Tagetes minuta L. grown in Egypt, South Africa and the UK were obtained by hydrodistillation. Although they had similar constituents, the oils had different percentage compositions. Dihydrotagetone was the most abundant component of the oils from the UK (34.3 and 54.1%), while the oils from South Africa and Egypt were characterized by a high content of cis-β-ocimene (50.9 and 32.0%, respectively). The oils exhibited antibacterial activity, especially against Gram-positive bacteria. Antimicrobial activity was greater in oils from the UK than in oils from Egypt or South Africa, irrespective of whether the UK plants had been grown in a greenhouse or in the field. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) for the oil from UK greenhouse-grown plants were 6.25-25 μg/mL for Gram-positive bacteria and 25-50 μg/mL for Gram-negative bacteria, with the lowest MIC of 6.25 μg/mL against Streptococcus faecalis. Oil from plants from South Africa had MICs of 50-100 μg/mL against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The MICs of oil from plants from Egypt against all tested bacteria except Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Salmonella typhi were half of the MICs of oil from plants from South Africa.

TL;DR: The effect of allelic variants of Apolipoprotein (APOE) gene in development and progression of DAD and mortality in persons with DS is examined.
Abstract: Objective Virtually all adults with Down syndrome (DS) have neuropathological manifestations of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) but not all develop the condition. The effect of allelic variants of Apolipoprotein (APOE) gene in the development and progression of AD and mortality in people with DS is examined.

TL;DR: In this article, a structured questionnaire survey was conducted to elicit direct knowledge and lived experiences of construction practitioners to uncover the prevalence and forms of corrupt practices within the developing country of Ghana, and the results revealed that habitual corruption and unethical behavior prevail among public officials, contractors, and construction professionals during the bid evaluation, tendering, and contract implementation stages of a construction contract.
Abstract: Across the globe, corruption presents a major risk that reduces construction project performances by inflating costs and reducing the quality of the infrastructure commissioned. In developing countries, corruption stifles economic development and engenders social inequality. Using a structured questionnaire survey to elicit direct knowledge and lived experiences of construction practitioners, this study uncovered the prevalence and forms of corrupt practices within the developing country of Ghana. Research findings illustrate that habitual corruption and unethical behavior prevail among public officials, contractors, and construction professionals during the bid evaluation, tendering, and contract implementation stages of a construction contract. This research proffers that corruption is driven by a toxic concoction of high political connections, excessive and reckless sole sourcing of public construction projects, lack of commitment by construction companies in addressing corruption, and the inherently idiosyncratic operational environment of the construction sector. The top five forms of corruption frequently encountered, in descending order, are kickbacks (extortion), bribery, collusion and tender rigging, conflict of interest, and fraud. This research presents a rare glimpse of construction industry corruption in a developing country and provides polemic clarity geared to intellectually challenge readers in government and industry. Future work is required to explore and develop appropriate countermeasures to address corrupt practices and behaviors.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an overview of the growing field of the integration of qualitative evidence, based on an analysis of 177 syntheses published in a variety of professional and social science fields.
Abstract: In this article, we present an overview of the growing field of the integration of qualitative evidence. Based on an analysis of 177 syntheses published in a variety of professional and social science fields, they introduce a way of categorizing the various approaches that synthesists use to combine evidence derived from primary qualitative studies. Finally, they argue for the place of a constructionist approach when synthesizing findings from primary qualitative research.
