TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined how accounting system and the management of environment information can be oriented towards the goals of improving corporate sustainability and eco-efficiency while promoting accountability of management activities.
Abstract: This paper examines amongst other issues how accounting system and the management of environment information can be oriented towards the goals of improving corporate sustainability and eco-efficiency while promoting accountability of management activities. The problem of environmental financial reporting and the contemporary issues on environmental accounting is also examined. The paper concludes that, the general picture, which emerges from currents environment financial reporting, is that since disclosures of environmental information are voluntary; there is a diversity of reporting practice. While large companies tend to report more environmental information, medium-scale and small-scale businesses usually report little or no information on the environment; and these disclosures tend to be more qualitative rather than quantitative. Recommendations on ways in which accountants can contribute to environmental management are proffered.

TL;DR: Ojaide et al. as mentioned in this paper highlighted the role of women who refuse to be seen as docile and second class as well as their socio-political activism in reversing their predicament.
Abstract: For many years, gender issues have continued to dominate discourses locally and globally. It is therefore heart-warming to note that women are providing leadership not only at home but in other spheres of life, be it economic, social or political. The exploration and exploitation of oil in the Niger Delta region has resulted in untold hardship, eco-trauma, bio-terrorism and the general neglect of the area. The debacle associated with oil exploration has affected the people and denied them their traditional occupations. Women are not left out and are confronted with new challenges of violence, health and political issues metted on them by the federal government of Nigeria in collaboration with multi-national oil companies, the army, navy and the police. Lives and properties are lost to gas flares, blow out from oil spillage, environmental pollution etc. Meanwhile, the federal government and multi-nationals grow fat at the expense of the poor. Oil capitalism has brought sorrow and doom to the region, as the Niger Delta remains under-developed. Ojaide’s thematic preoccupation in The Activist is to throw more light on the plight of the Niger Delta people especially the women who face various forms of victimizations like rape, miscarriages, occupational disempowerment, pollution, lose of eyesight and other health hazards. This paper seeks to highlight the role of these women who refuse to be seen as docile and second class as well as their socio-political activism in reversing their predicament. Three theories inform the focus of the paper through it’s characters representation namely; eco-feminism, feminism and the Marxism theories as the women and the masses fought the oil workers and their cohorts to a halt to gain full control of the companies and become employers of labour in the once ravaged, impoverished environment by oil companies. The paper is based on library research.

TL;DR: In this article, an empirical analysis of consumers' propensity to buy foreign goods, despite the fact that such goods are equally produced in domestic firms, was conducted in Cross River and Abia States.
Abstract: This study is an empirical analysis of consumers’ propensity to buy foreign goods, despite the fact that such goods are equally produced in domestic firms. The product that was taken into consideration was shoes. To elicit data for the study, questions were formulated and administered to 1412 respondents in Cross River and Abia States. The model specification for the test of hypotheses formulated was Spearman Ranked Correlation Coefficient. The result from the study showed that patriotism has no effect on how consumers make their purchase decisions in the two states. Moreover, consumers’ preference and disposition did not favour locally made shoes, hence the high demand for foreign brands. Finally the study made us to understand that the major determinants of consumers’ decision to patronize foreign brand was the quality of the shoes as well as the technology used for its production. It was recommended and concluded that, producers should improve on the quality of the product to attract consumers’ willingness to buy, while the government as a matter of necessity should create the enabling environment that would generate a favourable business climate.

TL;DR: The result from the present study implies that the indigenes of the Efik ethnic group of Cross River State have platyrrhine nose type since they have an NI >85.
Abstract: Introduction: Nasal anthropometry is crucial for its diverse applications. In order to assess sexual dimorphism and classify the nose type of children and young adults of the Efik ethnic group of Cross River State, this study was designed to determine the standard values for some nasal anthropometric parameters like nasal height (NH), nasal width (NW), nasal length (NL), and nasal index (NI). Materials and Methods: The study sample consisted of 600 subjects (300 males and 300 females) aged 6-20 years, who were drawn randomly from the Efik ethnic group of Cross River State, Nigeria; they were divided into three age subgroups (6-10 years, 11-15 years, and 16-20 years) to observe the gender difference within the groups and the variations of each parameter with advancing age. Results: Sexual dimorphism was noted ( P P Conclusion: This, therefore, implies that the indigenes of the Efik ethnic group of Cross River State have platyrrhine (broad and short) nose type since they have an NI >85. The result from the present study will be useful in aesthetic and reconstruction surgery involving the nose, and also for the physical anthropologist and forensic scientist in the area of ethnic and racial identification.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of caffeine-coconut products interactions on induction of drug-metabolizing enzyme in wistar albino rats was studied and the results showed that while ingestion of coconut milk and coconut water increased the values of protein and protein/RNA ratios, it decreased alanine and aspartate amino transferase (ALT and AST) activities, which enhanced the induction of the metabolizing enzymes and a resultant faster clearance and elimination of the caffeine from the body, there by reducing the toxic effect on the liver.
Abstract: Effect of caffeine-coconut products interactions on induction of drug-metabolizing enzyme in wistar albino rats was studied. Twenty rats were randomly divided into four groups: The control group (1) received via oral route a placebo (4.0ml of distilled water). Groups 2 to 4 were treated for a 14-day period with 50mg/kg body weight of caffeine, 50mg/kg body weight of caffeine and 50mg/kg body weight of coconut water, and 50mg/kg body weight of caffeine and 50mg/kg body weight of coconut milk in 4.0ml of the vehicle via gastric intubation respectively. One day after the final exposure, the animals were anaestheticized by inhalation of an overdose of chloroform. The blood of each rat was collected by cardiac puncture while the liver of each rat was harvested and processed to examine several biochemical parameters, ie, total protein and RNA levels, protein/RNA ratios, and activities of alanine and aspartate amino transferase (ALT and AST, respectively). The results showed that while ingestion of coconut milk and coconut water increased the values of protein and protein/RNA ratios, it decreased alanine and aspartate amino transferase (ALT and AST) activities. These effects, in turn, enhanced the induction of the metabolizing enzymes and a resultant faster clearance and elimination of the caffeine from the body, there by reducing the toxic effect on the liver.
