TL;DR: Simultaneous or same day sowing produced more satisfactory yields of the component crops relative to other sowing schedules while fertilizer use was enhanced by NPK application at 150 kg/ha.
Abstract: Field experiments were conducted during the cropping seasons of 2004 and 2005 at Obubra, Nigeria, to ascertain the most suitable time to introduce sesame or soybean and the effect of nitrogen:phosphorus:potassium (N:P:K; 15:15:15) fertilizer on sesame/soybean intercropping. Treatments comprised five times of introduction as follows: sesame + soybean sown same day, sesame sown two weeks before soybean, sesame sown four weeks before soybean, sesame sown two weeks after soybean, and sesame sown four weeks after soybean. Four levels of NPK (15:15:15) fertilizer (0, 50, 100, and 150 kg/ha) were factorially combined with the above treatments and arranged into a randomized complete block design with three replications. The parameters measured were; plant height, number of branches/plant, number of leaves/plant, shoot dry matter/plant, number of capsules/plant, number of seeds/capsule and seed yield. The number of leaves, branches and capsules per plant, shoot dry matter and seed yield of sesame as well ...

TL;DR: Results revealed that seeds of Moringa oleifera (Lam.) germinated faster than sprouting from stem cuttings and seedlings raised by seed had mean height, mean leaflets number, and mean steam collar diameter that where higher than those produced by stem cutting.
Abstract: This study examined the best propagating method for Moringa oleifera (Lam.). This was conducted at the Department of Forestry and Natural Environmental Management arboretum, University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Seeds and stem cuttings of the species were collected from a mother tree located at Obio Ibiono and sown in polythene bags filled with soil from the arboretum and watered twice daily throughout the study period. Daily germination of the seedlings was recorded for fourteen (14) days. The early growth rate was assessed three (3) months after sowing using height, number of leaflets and stem collar diameter as parameters. Data collected were analyzed using t- test at 5% probability level. Results revealed that seeds of Moringa oleifera (Lam.) germinated faster than sprouting from stem cuttings and seedlings raised by seed had mean height (43.92cm), mean leaflets number (69.6) and mean steam collar diameter (0.54 cm) that where higher than those produced by stem cutting, thus indicating that seedlings produced by seeds have a faster early growth rate than seedlings produced by stem cuttings.

TL;DR: In this article, the usage of linear programming approach towards solving transportation cost problems is discussed, and a brief introduction of the subject matter is proffered, and the concepts which are commonly used are examined.
Abstract: Cost, in accounting terms, refers to the sacrifice given up in order to obtain a product or service. Transportation cost, on the other hand, relates to the cost of carriage or conveyance of goods and services from one place (the origin - the factor) to another place (the destination - the warehouse). Various techniques and procedures are employed to minimize transportation cost. This paper dwells on the usage of linear programming approach towards solving transportation cost problems. Linear programming in a nut-shell is a term that covers a whole range of mathematical techniques that aim at optimizing performance in terms of combination of resources. It is one of the practical approaches which are employed by the cost accountant to achieve the desired objective of minimizing cost while maximizing profit and efficiency. According a brief introduction of the subject matter is proffered, and the concepts which are commonly used are examined. The paper also discusses the method of solving linear programming problems. Others areas where linear programming could be applied are also outlined.

TL;DR: Results of the study indicated Okra containing vital nutrients which aids in proper functioning of the human biological system, and presented okra as a local cash crop to meet the fast growing human population.
Abstract: Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench) has been found productive, serving nutritional, medicinal, pharmaceutical including economic values. Result of the study indicated Okra containing vital nutrients which aids in proper functioning of the human biological system. Okra has been found to raise the standard of living/economy of local farmers, apart from serving as food. Utilization of Okra in herbal medicine presents the crop as having the potential of maintaining human health. Traditional utilization of the crop has proof its ability to continue to further the advancement in human development. Result of the study presented okra as a local cash crop, owing to the fact that the demand and patronage of the vegetable crop has increase, threrby bringing more income to the farmers and partly contributing to increase in food/crop production to meet the fast growing human population, especially in developing countries including Nigeria.
