Abstract: There is no ambivalence that Political campaign is instrumental to all political aspirants who are vying for different positions. During the 2019 governorship election in Cross River State, Political parties and their candidates will be sponsoring advertisements through different media like radio, television, newspaper, magazine, billboards, posters, among several others. The ultimate goal behind such political actions is to woo the electorates so as to enhance victory. The study employed survey method and the questionnaire serves as the statutory instruments. The paper used cultivation analysis theory to buttress the study. The findings reveals that electioneering candidates employed campaign during elections in Nigeria. However, the paper concluded that political campaign is very sacrosanct to electioneering candidates in Nigeria and all the political actors at various level involved in one form of campaign or another. Most aspirants used radio and television for campaign during the elections in Cross River State, while some used social media platforms, billboards and posters/pamphlets during election. The study recommended that political candidates should be circumspect when campaigning for elections because it is a platform that gives them the opportunity to seek votes from the electorates.

Abstract: The paper assessed the viewpoints of reporters on the challenges of newspaper reportage of the Niger Delta conflict in Nigeria (2006-2007). The Guardian, The Vanguard and The Niger Delta Newspapers were purposively selected for the study due to both their national and local outlooks in the coverage and reportage of the conflict. In-depth interviews were conducted on two (2) correspondents each from the three (3) selected newspapers making a total of six (6), while four (4) respondents from each of the newspaper making 12 were selected for questionnaire administration. Results obtained identified ownership (41.7%) and media protective interest (33.3%) as the primary challenges faced by the media in the reportage of the Niger Delta conflict. The actions of the Ijaw Youths, militant activities (41.7%), killings (25%) and hostage taking (16.6%) considerably affected the nature of reportage during the heat days or periods of the conflict. Findings from the in-depth interviews showed that the geology (nature of terrain) of the conflict area, issue of trust from the militants and security forces exerted considerable influence on the selected newspapers failure to perform the required effective mediation and intervention role in the conflict. Abstract: This study examined the effect of Microfinance Banks on the development of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises in Nigeria. This study was specifically meant to assess the extent to which microfinance banks loans and advances, investments and deposit mobilization affect the productivity of SMEs in Nigeria. The study employed the ex-pose facto research design. Time series data were collected from the CBN statistical Bulletin and SMEDAN annual publications using the desk survey method. The data were analysed using the Vector Error Correction Mechanism. Result from the analyses revealed that Microfinance banks loans and advances and investments do not have any significant effect on SMEs’ productivity in Nigeria both in the long run and short run period. The study further reveals that microfinance banks’ deposit mobilization does not have any significant effect on SMEs’ productivity in Nigeria in the long run, however, within the short run period microfinance banks deposits mobilization has a significant effect on SMEs’ productivity. Based on these findings, it was recommended that MFBs should lighten the condition for lending and increase the duration of lending to their customers, spreading the repayment over a long period of time to assist SMEs meet their funding needs. Also, the Government and its institutions, including the Central Bank, should work in concert to promote the sector, as a means of mobilizing domestic savings, widening the financial system, promoting enterprises, creating employment and income and reducing poverty.

Abstract: The study assessed United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) micro-finance service andpoverty alleviation in Uyo local government area of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. It determined microcredit programme, increase income of farmers and improvement in farmers’ status as they relateto poverty alleviation. Survey research design was adopted and was conducted in 4 clans of studyarea. Eight villages within these strata were purposively studied on the basis of micro creditbeneficiaries. Altogether 240 rural farmers were involved. Data were obtained usingquestionnaire and analyzed using Pearson product moment correlation coefficient. Findingsshowed that average income of farmers increased after participation in UNDP micro-financeservice. It was established that farmers experience improvement in their social status. Therefore,participating in the UNDP programme has a positive impact in farmers’ income level and
