TL;DR: In this paper, a review of the potential technologies and their baseline performance of producing hydrogen from catalytic steam reforming of biodiesel byproduct glycerol was presented, and the technical challenges to achieve a stable high-purity hydrogen production by the sorptionenhanced steam reforming process included extending operation time, selecting suitable sorbents, finding a way for continuous reaction-regeneration of catalyst and sorbent mixture and improving process efficiencies.
Abstract: The objective of this review is to analyze potential technologies and their baseline performance of producing hydrogen from catalytic steam reforming of biodiesel byproduct glycerol. High oxygen content and high impurity level of biodiesel byproduct glycerol, as well as the complex intermediates and high coking potential in its thermal degradation, make the modeling, design, and operation of glycerol steam reforming a challenge. Thermal decomposition characterization of biodiesel byproduct glycerol was covered, and the recent developments and methods for high-purity hydrogen production from glycerol steam reforming were illustrated. The thermodynamics constraint of water gas shift reaction can be overcome by the sorption-enhanced steam reforming process, which integrated catalytic steam reforming, water gas shift reaction and in-situ CO2 removal at high temperatures in a single stage reactor. The effectiveness of both the enhanced H2 production and the use of CO2 sorbents have been demonstrated and discussed. The technical challenges to achieve a stable high-purity hydrogen production by the sorption-enhanced steam reforming process included extending operation time, selecting suitable sorbents, finding a way for continuous reaction-regeneration of catalyst and sorbent mixture and improving process efficiencies. The continuous sorption-enhanced steam reforming of glycerol was designed by a simultaneous flow concept of catalyst and sorbent for continuous reaction-regeneration using two slow moving-bed reactors for high-purity hydrogen production and CO2 capture, and in this process, catalyst and sorbent were run in nearly fresh state for H2 production. The sorption-enhanced chemical-looping reforming was also demonstrated. The paper discusses some issues and challenges, along with the possible solutions in order to help in efficient production of hydrogen from catalytic steam reforming of biodiesel byproduct glycerol.

TL;DR: This paper proposes a stepwise metric promotion approach to estimate the identities of training tracklets, which iterates between cross-camera tracklet association and feature learning, and can eliminate the hard negative label matches.
Abstract: The intensive annotation cost and the rich but unlabeled data contained in videos motivate us to propose an unsupervised video-based person re-identification (re-ID) method. We start from two assumptions: 1) different video tracklets typically contain different persons, given that the tracklets are taken at distinct places or with long intervals; 2) within each tracklet, the frames are mostly of the same person. Based on these assumptions, this paper propose a stepwise metric promotion approach to estimate the identities of training tracklets, which iterates between cross-camera tracklet association and feature learning. Specifically, We use each training tracklet as a query, and perform retrieval in the cross-camera training set. Our method is built on reciprocal nearest neighbor search and can eliminate the hard negative label matches, i.e., the cross-camera nearest neighbors of the false matches in the initial rank list. The tracklet that passes the reciprocal nearest neighbor check is considered to have the same ID with the query. Experimental results on the PRID 2011, ILIDS-VID, and MARS datasets show that the proposed method achieves very competitive re-ID accuracy compared with its supervised counterparts.

TL;DR: A robust cerium-based tetrahedron was developed as a luminescent detector of nitronyl nitroxide (PTIO), a specific spin-labeling nitric oxide (NO) trapper and encapsulates molecules of NO and PTIO within the cavity to prompt the spin-trapping reaction.
Abstract: Metal–organic polyhedra represent a unique class of functional molecular containers that display interesting molecular recognition properties and fascinating reactivity reminiscent of the natural enzymes. By incorporating a triphenylamine moiety as a bright blue emitter, a robust cerium-based tetrahedron was developed as a luminescent detector of nitronyl nitroxide (PTIO), a specific spin-labeling nitric oxide (NO) trapper. The tetrahedron encapsulates molecules of NO and PTIO within the cavity to prompt the spin-trapping reaction and transforms the normal EPR responses into a more sensitively luminescent signaling system with the limit of detection improved to 5 nM. Twelve-fold amide groups are also functionalized within the tetrahedron to modify the hydrophilic/lipophilic environment, ensuring the successful application of biological imaging in living cells.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors study the holographic dark energy model in a non-flat universe from the state-finder viewpoint and show that the contributions of the spatial curvature in the model can be diagnosed explicitly by the statefinder diagrams.
Abstract: In this paper, we study the holographic dark energy model in a non-flat universe from the statefinder viewpoint. We plot the evolutionary trajectories of the holographic dark energy model for different values of the parameter c as well as for different contributions of spatial curvature, in the statefinder parameter planes. The statefinder diagrams characterize the properties of the holographic dark energy and discriminate between this scenario and other dark energy models. As we show, the contributions of the spatial curvature in the model can be diagnosed explicitly by the statefinder diagrams. Furthermore, we also investigate the holographic dark energy model in the w–w' plane, which can provide us with a useful dynamical diagnosis complement to the statefinder geometrical diagnosis.

TL;DR: In this paper, a new gas sensor using TiO2 nanotube arrays was fabricated and explored for formaldehyde detection at room temperature, which demonstrated a good response to different concentrations of formaldehyde from 10 to 50ppm and a very good selectivity over other reducing gas species such as ethanol and ammonia at room-temperature.
Abstract: A new gas sensor using TiO2 nanotube arrays was fabricated and explored for formaldehyde detection at room temperature. Highly ordered vertically grown TiO2 nanotube arrays were synthesized by using the conventional electrochemical anodization process. The sensor using the fabricated nanotube arrays as the sensing elements demonstrated a good response to different concentrations of formaldehyde from 10 to 50 ppm and a very good selectivity over other reducing gas species such as ethanol and ammonia at room temperature. While the exact sensing mechanism is unclear, some possibilities are briefly discussed.
