TL;DR: In this paper, a novel composite V2O5/BiVO4/TiO2 photocatalyst was successfully synthesized by using a sequentially hydrothermal and adhering method.
Abstract: In an effort to develop nanostructured photocatalysts to achieve high performance in heterogeneous photocatalysis, a novel composite V2O5/BiVO4/TiO2 photocatalyst was successfully synthesized by using a sequentially hydrothermal and adhering method. The structural and optical properties of the as-prepared samples were comparatively characterized. The formed ternary nanojunctions were composed of TiO2 nanobelts and V2O5/BiVO4 nanorods which were self-assembled by smaller V2O5 and BiVO4 nanoparticles. Compared to pure TiO2 nanobelts and V2O5/BiVO4 nanorods, the V2O5/BiVO4/TiO2 composite exhibited higher photocatalytic activity in decomposition of gaseous toluene under visible light irradiation (λ > 400 nm). Electron spin resonance examination confirmed that the photoinduced active species (•OH and O2•–) were involved in the photocatalytic degradation of toluene. A detailed mechanism accounting for the enhanced photocatalytic activity of the V2O5/BiVO4/TiO2 nanocomposite was proposed in terms of the energy b...

TL;DR: An adaptive fuzzy hierarchical sliding-mode control method for a class of multiinput multioutput unknown nonlinear time-delay systems with input saturation is proposed and theoretically proved that all the signals in the closed-loop system together with the proposed sliding surfaces are uniformly ultimately bounded under the designed adaptive fuzzy controllers.
Abstract: In this paper, an adaptive fuzzy hierarchical sliding-mode control method for a class of multiinput multioutput unknown nonlinear time-delay systems with input saturation is proposed. The studied system is first transformed into an equivalent system. Subsequently, based on sliding-mode control technology and the concept of hierarchical design, a set of adaptive fuzzy hierarchical sliding-mode controllers are designed for the new defined system by using fuzzy systems to approximate uncertain functions and compensate input saturation. Choosing an appropriate Lyapunov–Krasovskii function, it is theoretically proved that all the signals in the closed-loop system together with the proposed sliding surfaces are uniformly ultimately bounded under our designed adaptive fuzzy controllers. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design techniques for the systems under consideration.

TL;DR: The suspended bacteria found were different from the bacteria immobilized in the biofilm, and they played different roles in electricity generation from the hydrolysate, which can contribute to improving understanding of and optimizing electricity generation in microbial fuel cells.
Abstract: Electricity generation from wheat straw hydrolysate and the microbial ecology of electricity-producing microbial communities developed in two-chamber microbial fuel cells (MFCs) were investigated. The power density reached 123 mW/m 2 with an initial hydrolysate concentration of 1,000 mg chemical oxygen demand (COD)/liter, while coulombic efficiencies ranged from 37.1 to 15.5%, corresponding to the initial hydrolysate concentrations of 250 to 2,000 mg COD/liter. The suspended bacteria found were different from the bacteria immobilized in the biofilm, and they played different roles in electricity generation from the hydrolysate. The bacteria in the biofilm were consortia with sequences similar to those of Bacteroidetes (40% of sequences), Alphaproteobacteria (20%), Bacillus (20%), Deltaproteobacteria (10%), and Gammaproteobacteria (10%), while the suspended consortia were predominately Bacillus (22.2%). The results of this study can contribute to improving understanding of and optimizing electricity generation in microbial fuel cells.
