TL;DR: In this article, price expectations data derived from the quarterly Australian Survey of Consumers were analyzed and the information loss arising from using the more readily available qualitative based series as approximations to the quantitative series was assessed.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed the quantitative price expectations of consumers as obtained from consumer surveys, and they considered price expectations as functions of past rates of inflation, other economic variables, and consumer sentiment variables.
Abstract: This paper analyzes the quantitative price expectations of consumers as obtained from consumer surveys. Price expectations are considered as functions of (i) past rates of inflation (ii) other economic variables, and (iii) consumer sentiment variables. The dominant influence on expectations is the most recent change in the consumer price index. Wage-indexation decisions and changes in the money supply also exert a significant influence on mean expectations. The variability of price expectations across consumers is proportional to the mean level of expectations.

TL;DR: Corporate accounting in Australia can be said to have passed through four phases as discussed by the authors : the initial phase involved the introduction of minimum standards of statutory disclosure, the second phase was largely an extension of these statutory requirements to include income statements and consolidated statements, and the final phase has directed attention more and more to the problems of accounting measurement reflected in the financial statements.
Abstract: Corporate accounting in Australia can be said to have passed through four phases. The initial phase involved the introduction of minimum standards of statutory disclosure. The second phase was largely an extension of these statutory requirements to include income statements and consolidated statements. This was followed by the activities of the accounting profession, stock exchanges and others to improve the details of disclosure. The final phase which is still under way has directed attention more and more to the problems of accounting measurement reflected in the financial statements. It has been marked by efforts to formulate accounting standards and to enforce compliance with those standards. Modern developments have been marked by a gradual shift from change based on statutory demands towards change based on the role of such non statutory influences as the accounting profession.

TL;DR: It appears that NAC alters the glucose response to a given meal, but the extent to which this occurred in the present study was less than in previous studies, which may reflect synergism between bran and other NAC's to lower blood glucose response after a meal.
Abstract: Summary: Previous studies have shown that the addition of non-absorbable carbohydrate (NAC) to test meals decreases the glucose and insulin response both in normal and diabetic subjects. However, these studies appear to have used bran in the basic test meal without a knowledge of the effect of bran itself or of the added NAC alone. In the present investigation bran alone, pectin alone, guar alone and pectin with guar have been studied. Guar alone added to the test meal significantly lowered blood glucose at 90 minutes. Pectin alone did not have a significant effect. Pectin and guar together resulted in a blood glucose lower at 30 minutes and greater at 120 minutes. No significant changes in insulin response were noted to our study. It appears that NAC alters the glucose response to a given meal, but the extent to which this occurred in the present study was less than in previous studies. The differences may reflect synergism between bran and other NAC's to lower blood glucose response after a meal.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of microwave energy on Acacia longifolia seed coat cracks was investigated and a brief comparison was made between seed treatment by microwave and boiling water techniques.
Abstract: Germination of Acacia longifolia was enhanced by microwave energy. Cracks produced on the seed coat are discussed. Special attention is focused on the effect of microwave energy on the strophiole. Possible reasons for strophiolar breakdown are given. A brief comparison is made between seed treatment by microwave and boiling water techniques. The microwave method offers advantages for use with direct seeding.

TL;DR: In this paper, the electrochemical reduction at mercury and platinum electrodes of a series of perfluoroalkyl (RF) and alkyl (RH) cobalt(III)NN′-ethylenebis(salicylaldimines)[CoR(salen)] has been studied in tetrahydrofuran by several techniques.
Abstract: The electrochemical reduction at mercury and platinum electrodes of a series of perfluoroalkyl (RF) and alkyl (RH) cobalt(III)NN′-ethylenebis(salicylaldimines)[CoR(salen)] has been studied in tetrahydrofuran by several techniques. Each class of compound is reduced similarly, [CoIIIR(salen)] [graphic omitted] [CoIIR(salen)]– [graphic omitted] [CoIR(salen)]2–, with the CoIIIRF complexes reducing most readily. Electron transfer and subsequent chemical reaction rates are different at the mercury and platinum electrodes implying that mercury-bridged intermediates may be formed at the mercury electrode. The [CoRF(salen)]– species are more stable than the alkyl complexes but do decompose to [Co(salen)] and perfluorocarbanions. The [CoRH(salen)]– anions rapidly yield [Co(salen)]– and the alkyl radical. Both complexes [CoR(salen)]2– decompose very rapidly to [Co(salen)]–.

TL;DR: Four experiments used a task in which males and females had to work through a passage and circle instances of a target letter to show that females have greater difficulty than males in detecting target letters.
Abstract: Four experiments used a task in which males and females had to work through a passage and circle instances of a target letter. Coltheart, Hull and Slater (1975) have previously used this task to show that females have greater difficulty than males in detecting target letters, especially letters in the and other silent letters. The four experiments failed to replicate Coltheart et al.'s findings and, in fact, frequently found significant sex differences in the opposite direction. This discrepancy in results could not be accounted for in terms of procedural differences between the two studies. It was concluded that Coltheart et al.'s (1975) results with the letter detection task may not be reliable.

TL;DR: In this paper, the molybdenum and ligand thiolate centres were used for the interconversion of mononuclear and triply-bridged binuclear anions.
Abstract: Interconversion of mononuclear [MoVO(SR)4]–(1; R = aryl or alkyl) and triply-bridged, binuclear [MoV2O2(SR)6Z]–(2; Z = OMe, OEt, or SCH2Ph) anions occurs via redox processes involving both the molybdenum and ligand thiolate centres.

TL;DR: In this paper, a new approach is described to the evaluation of a steel company's pricing options which are subject to administrative guidelines, making maximum use of market knowledge at a personal level to quantify uncertainty and price elasticity of demand.
Abstract: A new approach is described to the evaluation of a steel company's pricing options which are subject to administrative guidelines. The technique makes maximum use of market knowledge at a personal level to quantify uncertainty and price elasticity of demand. The numerical procedure maximises that revenue figure which has a specified confidence of being exceeded. The management decision aids constructed from the pricing model results are used for indicative planning of pricing options.
