TL;DR: In this paper, the microstructural evolution of magnesium alloy AZ31 for both wrought and as-cast initial microstructures was examined during the hot compression of AZ31, and the influence of strain, temperature, and strain rate on the dynamically recrystallized micro structures were assessed.
Abstract: The microstructural evolution is examined during the hot compression of magnesium alloy AZ31 for both wrought and as-cast initial microstructures. The influences of strain, temperature, and strain rate on the dynamically recrystallized microstructures are assessed. Both the percentage dynamic recrysallization (DRX) and the dynamically recrystallized grain size were found to be sensitive to the initial microstructure and the applied deformation conditions. Lower Z conditions (lower strain rates and higher temperatures) yield larger dynamically recrystallized grain sizes and increased percentages of DRX, as expected. The rate with which the percentage DRX increases for the as-cast material is considerably lower than for the wrought material. Also, in the as-cast samples, the percentage DRX does not continue to increase toward complete DRX with decreasing Z. These observations may be attributed to the deformation becoming localized in the DRX fraction of the material. Also, the dynamically recrystallized grain size is generally larger in as-cast material than in wrought material, which may be attributed to DRX related to twins and the inhomogeneity of deformation. Orientation maps of the as-cast material (from electron backscattering diffraction (EBSD) data) reveal evidence of discontinuous DRX (DDRX) and DRX related to twins as predominant mechanisms, with some manifestation of continuous DRX (CDRX) and particle-stimulated nucleation (PSN).

TL;DR: A general computational model of an ECR service, which can be used to optimize resource allocation for interventional treatment of acute ischemic stroke and large vessel occlusion is developed.
Abstract: Objective: Endovascular clot retrieval (ECR) is the standard of care for acute ischemic stroke due to large vessel occlusion. Performing ECR is a time critical and complex process involving many specialized care providers and resources. Maximizing patient benefit while minimizing service cost requires optimization of human and physical assets. The aim of this study is to develop a general computational model of an ECR service, which can be used to optimize resource allocation. Methods: Using a discrete event simulation approach, we examined ECR performance under a range of possible scenarios and resource use configurations. Results: The model demonstrated the impact of competing emergency interventional cases upon ECR treatment times and time impact of allocating more physical (more angiographic suites) or staff resources (extending work hours). Conclusion: Our DES model can be used to optimize resources for interventional treatment of acute ischemic stroke and large vessel occlusion. This proof-of-concept study of computational simulation of resource allocation for ECR can be easily extended. For example, center-specific cost data may be incorporated to optimize resource allocation and overall health care value.

TL;DR: The drop cast composite film containing 4.10 wt % Bi2Te3 based alloy NSs showed electrical conductivity as high as 1295.21 S/cm, which is higher than that of a dimethyl sulfoxide doped PEDOT:PSS film prepared under the same condition.
Abstract: Bi2Te3 based alloy nanosheet (NS)/poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(4-styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) composite films were prepared separately by spin coating and drop casting techniques The drop cast composite film containing 410 wt % Bi2Te3 based alloy NSs showed electrical conductivity as high as 129521 S/cm, which is higher than that (7538 S/cm) of a dimethyl sulfoxide doped PEDOT:PSS film prepared under the same condition and that (850–1250 S/cm) of the Bi2Te3 based alloy bulk material The composite film also showed a very high power factor value, ∼3226 μWm–1 K–2 With the content of Bi2Te3 based alloy NSs increasing from 0 to 410 wt %, the electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient of the composite films increase simultaneously

TL;DR: These results provide the first direct evidence that vitamin D sufficiency may be an important protective factor for food allergy in the first year of life.
Abstract: Background Epidemiological evidence has shown that pediatric food allergy is more prevalent in regions further from the equator, suggesting that vitamin D insufficiency may play a role in this disease. Objective To investigate the role of vitamin D status in infantile food allergy. Methods A population sample of 5276 one-year-old infants underwent skin prick testing to peanut, egg, sesame, and cow's milk or shrimp. All those with a detectable wheal and a random sample of participants with negative skin prick test results attended a hospital-based food challenge clinic. Blood samples were available for 577 infants (344 with challenge-proven food allergy, 74 sensitized but tolerant to food challenge, 159 negative on skin prick test and food challenge). Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels were measured by using liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. Associations between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D and food allergy were examined by using multiple logistic regression, adjusting for potential risk and confounding factors. Results Infants of Australian-born parents, but not of parents born overseas, with vitamin D insufficiency (≤50 nmol/L) were more likely to be peanut (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 11.51; 95% CI, 2.01-65.79; P = .006) and/or egg (aOR, 3.79; 95% CI, 1.19-12.08; P = .025) allergic than were those with adequate vitamin D levels independent of eczema status. Among those with Australian-born parents, infants with vitamin D insufficiency were more likely to have multiple food allergies (≥2) rather than a single food allergy (aOR, 10.48; 95% CI, 1.60-68.61 vs aOR, 1.82; 95% CI, 0.38-8.77, respectively). Conclusions These results provide the first direct evidence that vitamin D sufficiency may be an important protective factor for food allergy in the first year of life.
