TL;DR: In this article, the relationship between pitting corrosion and mechanical strength of chromium-nickel steels was investigated in 3% NaCI conditions with reference to stress mechanical effects of pit depth and number.
Relations between pitting corrosion and mechanical strength of austenitic chromium nickel steels
The shape, depth and size as well as the frequency of pits formed under potentiostatic conditions on the surfaces of chromium-nickel steels (German designations X 5 CrNi 18 9 and X 5 CrNiMo 18 10) in 3% NaCl are studied with reference to stress mechanical effects of pitting corrosion. Comparative studies of pitting corrosion and strength behaviour of specimens at- tacked under pitting enable the residual tensile strength to be represented as a function of potential, and the tensile strength as such to be plotted as a function of a corrosion index containing pit depth and number. External effects like thermal treatment, alloy composition and cold deformation can be interpreted uniformly on the basis of all these graphical representations.

16 Dec 1994TL;DR: In this paper, the influence of a reading distortion due to corrosive attack on the sample support and the weighing rod can be eliminated by a two stage weighing, where the sample can be lifted off of the interchangeable weighing rod by a lifting mechanism.
Abstract: Appts. for thermogravimetric characterisation of the corrosion resistance of materials includes a commercial micro balance (21) to record mass change readings at temps. > 1500 deg C. The influence of a reading distortion due to corrosive attack on the sample support and the weighing rod can be eliminated by a two stage weighing. The sample (4) can be lifted off of the interchangeable weighing rod (5) by a lifting mechanism (18), so that on the one hand the rod can be weighed with and on the other hand without the sample. After subtraction of the readings, the actual sample wt. can be recorded.

TL;DR: In this article, the potential of electrochemical coal conversion processes is discussed for the following three main groups of primary products: syngas, aliphatic compounds, and aromatic compounds. Thermal efficiencies and yields are compared with those of competing processes.
Abstract: Future scope of electrochemical coal utilization. Based on fundamental thermodynamic considerations and with due regard to known electrochemical reactions of coal-like substances, the potential of electrochemical coal conversion processes is discussed for the following three main groups of primary products: syngas, aliphatic compounds, and aromatic compounds. Thermal efficiencies and yields are compared with those of competing processes. The indirect electrochemical degradation of coal to soluble aromatic compounds with peroxodisulfate as redox mediator is a promising route of potential interest.

TL;DR: The surface modification of Ni-base alloys with low Al-contents (between 2 and 5 Wt%) with fluorine leads to the formation of a protective alumina scale under high temperature service conditions.
Abstract: The surface modification of Ni-base alloys with low Al-contents (between 2 and 5 wt.%) with fluorine leads to the formation of a protective alumina scale under high temperature service conditions. The combined implantation of fluorine and reactive elements (Y, Hf) can increase the adherence of this alumina scale needed for technical applications.
