Effect of Dimilin (diflubenzuron) on the fecundity, fertility and progeny development of Dysdercus cingulatus (Hem., Pyrrhocoridae)1

Abstract: Dimilin, a chitin inhibitor, plays very significant role in control of certain insect pests because it is very specific to the insect and found to be least toxic to the other organisms. Its application on the nymphs of Dysdercus cingulatus not only caused dose-dependent nymphal mortality but also caused significant reduction in the fecundity and fertility of the adults and progeny development. The reduction was more pronounced in 5th instar treated nymphs than those of 4th instar. However, applied doses did not reduce the fecundity and fertility of the females developed from F1 progeny. Zusammenfassung Zum Einflus von Dimilin (Diflubenzuron) auf die Fekunditat und Fertilitat sowie die Entwicklung der Nachkommenschaft von Dysdercus cingulatus (Hem., Pyrrhocoridae) Dimilin, ein Hautungshemmer, ist ein wichtiges Insektizid zur Bekampfung bestimmter Schadinsekten, da es sehr spezifisch auf Insekten wirkt und nur sehr gering toxisch gegenuber anderen Organismen ist. Bei Nymphen von Dysdercus cingulatus bewirkt die Applikation von Dimilin nicht nur eine dosisabhangige Nymphenmortalitat, sondern auch eine signifikante Reduktion der Fekunditat und der Fertilitat der Adulten und zeigt Auswirkungen auf die Entwicklung der Nachkommenschaft. Die beobachteten Reaktionen waren bei der Behandlung von Nymphen des 5. Stadiums deutlicher als bei Behandlung im 4. Stadium. Bei den untersuchten Konzentrationen konnte jedoch keine Reduktion der Fekunditat und Fertilitat der Weibchen festgestellt werden, die sich aus der F1 entwickelten.
