08 Jun 2017TL;DR: The purified pectin lyase was found suitable for retting of Crotolaria juncea fiber and was found to be highly stimulated by Ca2+ ions while sugars like mannitol and sorbitol, and salts like NaCl and CaCl2 enhanced the thermostability.
Abstract: Using solid-state fermentation, production of an industrially important pectin lyase from a fungal strain Fusarium oxysporum MTCC 1755 was attempted, which was further subjected to purification and characterization. The enzyme was purified by three steps, namely ammonium sulfate fractionation, cation-exchange chromatography on CM cellulose followed by gel filtration chromatography using Sephadex G-100 column. A 16-fold purification with 31.2% yield and 3.2 U/mg specific activity was achieved. The optimum pH of the purified enzyme was 9.0 and stability ranged from pH 5.0–7.0 for 24 h. Optimum temperature of purified enzyme was found to be 40 °C while temperature stability ranged from 10 to 50 °C for 30 min. The K
m and k
cat of the enzyme was 1.75 mg/ml and 83.3 s−1, respectively. The purified enzyme was found to be highly stimulated by Ca2+ ions while sugars like mannitol and sorbitol, and salts like NaCl and CaCl2 enhanced the thermostability. The purified pectin lyase was found suitable for retting of Crotolaria juncea fiber.

TL;DR: Kinetics and mechanistic pathways for atmospheric oxidation of HFE-7500 ( n-C3F7CF(OCH2CH3)CF(CF3)2) initiated by Cl atom and NO3 radical have been studied using density functional theory and temperature dependence of the rate constants and branching ratios for these pathways contributing to overall reaction are described.

TL;DR: Distribution coefficient of glucose and bovine serum albumin in these polymeric membranes measured by equilibration technique indicates that permeation of molecules through these membranes follows pore type mechanism.
Abstract: Permeation of molecules through the membranes plays an important role in immobilized cell systems. Permeation of molecules like glucose and bovine albumin serum was studied through chitosan, polyvinyl alcohol, and polyvinyl acetate membranes using a flow cell made of two detachable compartments. Permeation of molecules through chitosan, polyvinyl alcohol, and polyvinyl acetate membranes increases with decrease in hydrophobic characteristics of the membrane. Permeation of molecules also show its dependency on the molecular weight of the solute. Distribution coefficient of glucose and bovine serum albumin in these polymeric membranes measured by equilibration technique indicates that permeation of molecules through these membranes follows pore type mechanism.

TL;DR: In this article, an undoped sodium phosphate glass (Na2O-P2O5) has low electrical conductivity σ compared to all doped glasses except for 10% FeCl3-doped samples for which σ is found to be the lowest.
Abstract: Sodium phosphate glass undoped and doped with different concentrations of chlorides of iron, manganese, and zinc were prepared by melt quenching. The synthesized glasses were characterized by elemental analysis, X-ray diffraction, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and electrical conductivity studies. The undoped sodium phosphate glass (Na2O–P2O5) has low electrical conductivity σ compared to all doped glasses except for 10% FeCl3-doped samples for which σ is found to be the lowest, and the trend is
$$\sigma \left( {-{\text{ZnCl}}_2 } \right) >\sigma \left( {-{\text{MnCl}}_2 } \right) >\sigma \left( {-{\text{FeCl}}_3 } \right) >\sigma \left( {{\text{Na}}_2 {\text{O}}-{\text{P}}_2 {\text{O}}_5 } \right)$$
The Na2O–P2O5–5% ZnCl2, Na2O–P2O5–5% MnCl2 and Na2O–P2O5–1% FeCl3 glassy systems yielded maximum σ values. These results are explained on the basis of changes in the structure of sodium phosphate glass matrix by the addition of Fe, Mn, and Zn ions based on IR spectra and DSC studies.

TL;DR: The study demonstrated that patients with opioid dependence, high risk of isolation, the greater number of life events, higher anger trait and anger expression, personality disorder, low social functioning, and great number of substance use problems have risk for DSH.
Abstract: OBJECTIVE:: The lifetime diagnosis of substance dependence syndrome is a major risk factor for attempting suicide. The systematic study of various risk factors of suicide in substance-dependent patients in Indian population will have far-reaching implications about the understanding of disorder. The objective was to study the sociodemographic and clinical factors associated with deliberate self-harm (DSH) in nondepressed substance-dependent patients. METHODS:: Participants included 60 male inpatients (30 patients with DSH and 30 without DSH) fulfilling International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision Diagnostic Criteria for Research for substance dependence syndrome, aged between 18 and 60 years, with Hamilton Depression Rating Scale score fewer than 7. They were assessed using Addiction Severity Index, Presumptive Stressful Life Event Scale, State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory, Lubben Social Network Scale, International Personality Disorder Examination, Risk Rescue Rating Scale, and Global Assessment of Functioning. RESULT:: Patients with DSH had significantly higher rates of opioid dependence (P Language: en
