29 Nov 1994TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a method for using a code stored in a security module in each device for mutual authentication before commencing the transfer of data, where each code represents keys within an algorithm which processes random data fed to the terminal or data processor; the results of the processing are fed back to the data processor or terminal.
Abstract: The method involves using a code stored in a security module in each device for mutual authentication before commencing the transfer of data. Each code represents keys within an algorithm which processes random data fed to the terminal or data processor; the results of the processing are fed back to the data processor or terminal. The data are integrally protected when the code arrives, is stored in the terminal and transmitted using a message authentication code or MAC with the aid of algorithms and keys in each security module. Secure counters in the security modules perform additional monitoring of the data protected by the MAC.

16 Mar 2001TL;DR: In this paper, a method for operating a card terminal for a card comprising at least one card function and a non-volatile storage is described, where the card terminal first determines the card function via a device and, according to the function, a data processing device is subsequently configured with regard to the software.
Abstract: The invention relates to a card terminal (1) and to a method for operating a card terminal (1) for a card (7) comprising at least one card function (12, 13, 14) and a non-volatile storage (11). According to the invention, the card terminal (1) firstly determines the card function via a device (5) and, according to the card function, a data processing device (2) of the card terminal (1) is subsequently configured with regard to the software.

20 Sep 2010TL;DR: This paper evaluates the potential of network virtualization from an operator's perspective, with the short-term goal of optimizing service delivery and rollout, and on a longer term as an enabler of technology integration and migration.
Abstract: In the last few years, the concept of network virtualization has gained a lot of attention both from industry and research projects. This paper evaluates the potential of network virtualization from an operator's perspective, with the short-term goal of optimizing service delivery and rollout, and on a longer term as an enabler of technology integration and migration. Based on possible scenarios for implementing and using network virtualization, new business roles and models are examined. Open issues and topics for further evaluation are identified. In summary, the objective is to identify the challenges but also new opportunities for telecom operators raised by network virtualization.

08 Feb 2006TL;DR: In this article, a mobile radio transmitter and receiver for monitoring vital values or functions of frail persons or persons needing monitoring is provided, which is made up of at least two functional modules of which one accommodates at least the units for recording and analyzing the vital values, and one is designed as mobile telephone suitable also for voice communication.
Abstract: A device for monitoring vital values or functions of frail persons or persons needing monitoring is provided. The device includes units for recording and analyzing the vital values, units for determining the location of a person equipped with the device, and a mobile radio transmitter and receiver. When the monitoring function is turned on and at least one critical value is detected in the person needing monitoring, an emergency call number is automatically dialed by the device mentioned last and these data transmitted to the emergency call number. The device may be made up of at least two functional modules of which one accommodates at least the units for recording and analyzing the vital values, and one is designed as mobile telephone suitable also for voice communication. Those functional modules operate as a master-slave system.

09 Jul 2012TL;DR: In this paper, a distributed consensus algorithm for arbitrary networks, proposed by Benezit et al., is analyzed. But the problem addressed in this paper is not related to the analysis of consensus algorithms in general networks.
Abstract: The problem addressed in this paper is the analysis of a distributed consensus algorithm for arbitrary networks, proposed by Benezit et al. In the initial setting, each node in the network has one of two possible states (“yes” or “no”). Nodes can update their states by communicating with their neighbors via a 2-bit message in an asynchronous clock setting. Eventually, all nodes reach consensus on the majority states. We use the theory of electric networks, random walks, and couplings of Markov chains to derive an O(N4 log N) upper bound for the expected convergence time on an arbitrary graph of size N.
