TL;DR: An analytical sheath model for a capacitively coupled radio-frequency plasma discharge operated with two frequencies is proposed and studied under the assumptions of a time-independent, collisionless ion motion.
Abstract: In recent years, there has been an increased interest in capacitively coupled plasma discharges which are operated with two frequencies. An analytical sheath model for a capacitively coupled radio-frequency plasma discharge operated with two frequencies is proposed and studied under the assumptions of a time-independent, collisionless ion motion. Expressions are obtained for the time-average electric potential within the sheath, nonlinear motion of the electron sheath boundary and nonlinear instantaneous sheath voltage. The derived model is valid under the condition that the low frequency (lf) electric field Elf in the sheath is much higher than the high frequency (hf) electric field Ehf. This condition is fulfilled within typical dual frequency conditions. It is shown, however, that the hf electric field modifies the sheath structure significantly because of the electron response to Ehf. This model has been compared to particle-in-cell plasma simulations, finding good quantitative agreement. We present the dependence of the maximum sheath width and the dc sheath voltage drop on the hf/lf current ratio and on the hf/lf frequency ratio.

TL;DR: Easy- Swarm is developed, an open-source UAV swarming platform that adopts the LoRa radio at the physical layer and a low-latency channel access protocol at the MAC layer, showing that using LoRa leads to better reliability, in particular allowing for higher swarm density and longer coverage distance, than when WiFi is used.
Abstract: UAVs are powerful IoT components, offering sensing, communications and data analysis in the air. Recently, 3GPP TS 22.261, TR 22.862, and TR 36.777 have specified performance requirements for communications between multiple UAVs in the 5G domain. This article discusses communications reliability challenges in a UAV swarm context. Recommendations for designing an ultra-reliable communications system for UAV swarms are introduced with a focus on the software protocol stack and RF hardware. For the purpose of demonstration, we developed Easy- Swarm, an open-source UAV swarming platform that adopts the LoRa radio at the physical layer and a low-latency channel access protocol at the MAC layer. Real-life testbeds are built consisting of 10 UAVs and 20 robotic cars that produce background traffic. LoRa, WiFi and LTE networks are employed to provide broadband and cellular wireless network support. Results show that using LoRa leads to better reliability, in particular allowing for higher swarm density and longer coverage distance, than when WiFi is used. In addition, LTE provides the best reliability and latency for UAV swarms with good network connectivity.

TL;DR: In this paper, the catalytic ring-opening polymerization of macrolactones to polyethylene-like polyesters was investigated using aluminum-salen complexes as the initiators.
Abstract: The catalytic ring-opening polymerization of macrolactones to polyethylene-like polyesters was investigated using aluminum–salen complexes as the initiators. Contrary to the common understanding that high molecular weights in these reactions can only be achieved by enzymatic ring-opening polymerization due to the absence of ring tension in macrolactones, the aluminum–salen complexes produces poly(pentadecalactone)s with number-average molecular weights (Mn) of over 150 000 g/mol. Moreover, the same catalyst is also active in catalyzing the ROP of small and medium size lactones, which makes these aluminum–salen complexes highly potential catalysts for the cROP of lactones irrespective of ring size. These results show that it is possible to polymerize macrolactones to high molecular weight polyethylene-like polymers using cheap and robust metal-based catalysts. Even the so-called medium-sized lactones (ring size: 9–12) can be polymerized with a reasonably good activity to high molecular weight products, whi...

TL;DR: It is suggested that Notch promotes changes in hVSMC phenotype via activation of CBF-1/RBP-Jkappa-dependent pathways in vitro and contributes to the phenotypic response of VSMCs to cyclic strain-induced changes in VSMC differentiation.
Abstract: Vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) phenotypic modulation is a key factor in vascular pathology. We have investigated the role of Notch receptor signaling in controlling human vascular smooth muscle...
