Abstract: In external rotor permanent magnet synchronous motors with non-overlapping windings, the higher frequency harmonics of the radial forces generate considerable resonant vibrations and acoustic noise. Therefore, diversity of spatial and specifically frequency harmonic ordinal numbers of representative slot and pole number combinations are derived analytically with open circuit and under load. Amplitudes of radial force waves are calculated by means of the finite element method and 2-D Fourier analysis. The obtained results confirm the analytical investigation. Determining factors on amplitudes are studied on machines having different slot and pole numbers and double-layer windings. Higher frequency harmonics significantly depend on the pole and tooth shape as well as the current profile. With open circuit, the calculations are validated by experiments. The findings are applied to reduce the noise of a centrifugal fan.

Two cooling fan impellers ( 20, 22 ) are connected to the shaft ( 6 ). An inner cooling fan impeller ( 20 ) positioned inside the housing ( 2 ) generates an inner cooling air circuit (A) inside the housing ( 2 ). An outer cooling fan impeller ( 22 ) provided outside the housing ( 2 ), generates an outer cooling air flow (B). The first end wall ( 14 ) is formed with a thermal conductivity of at least a specified value and has an outer cooling rib geometry ( 28 ) on its outer side facing the outer cooling fan impeller ( 22 ), and an inner cooling rib geometry ( 30 ) on its opposing inner side.

The stator core together with the stator windings are enclosed in a molded encapsulation made of a plastic material of a defined thermal conductivity (λSt). The temperature sensor is arranged on the outside at the encapsulation, and the control electronics are designed such that they calculate the temperature in the region of the stator windings on the basis of the temperature detected by the temperature sensor taking into account a specific stator temperature profile stored in a memory. Furthermore, the invention relates to a brushless, electronically commutated electric motor having a stator as described above.

The impedance is compared with maximum impedance (Zmax) predetermined as limit characteristic value. A warning signal is produced depending on parameter of determined difference between the actual characteristic value and the limit characteristic value when reaching a preset minimum permissible difference. An independent claim is also included for an electrical device.

Abstract: A set of aeroacoustic optimization strategies for axial fans is presented. Their efficiency is demonstrated for small axial fans. Thereby, the generated noise could be reduced significantly while retaining or even improving the aerodynamic performance.In particular, we discuss the following two optimization strategies in detail: Firstly, we consider the design of winglets using a parametric model for genetic optimization. The resulting winglet geometry helps to control the tip vortex over a large range of operating points, thereby reducing the generated noise. In addition, the power consumption of the fan could be reduced. Various choices of geometrical parameter sets for optimization are evaluated.Secondly, we discuss the reduction of fan noise via contour optimized turbulators. For axial fans it is desirable to reduce sound emission across a broad operating range, not just for the design point. However, operation in off-design points may be accompanied by flow separation phenomena, which contribute predominantly to noise generation and reduce the aerodynamic performance of the fan. Turbulators can help to minimize these adverse effects. The advantages of various contoured turbulator geometries are discussed for off-design operating points.The optimization of the above mentioned strategies was driven by aeroacoustic measurements via physical tests as well as numerical analysis based on the Lattice-Boltzmann method. The merits of either method are discussed with respect to the two optimization strategies.Copyright © 2012 by ASME

Abstract: In a method and control system for controlling a brushless, electronically commutated electric motor (M), a three-phase source AC voltage (U N ) is rectified and fed to a DC link voltage (U ZK ), which is supplied to an inverter ( 2 ) via a slim DC link circuit ( 6 ). A motor control unit ( 10 ) for PWM pulsing controls the inverter for commutating the electric motor (M) and adjusting the motor speed with a variable duty cycle (A). The duty cycle (A) is influenced by a compensating factor (k) such that the product of the DC link voltage (U ZK ) and a resulting DC link current (I ZK ) is kept constant in the link circuit ( 6 ). The DC link voltage (U ZK ) is monitored. When a first threshold value (U ZKac.max1 ) of an AC component (U ZKac ) is exceeded, the compensating factor (k) is modified to lower the current AC component (U ZKac ) below the threshold value (U ZKac.max1 ).

The basic body (3) is extrusion-coated with a sleeve made from plastic, from which contact pins at least partially protrude. In order to reduce the manufacturing costs, a contact holder (2) encased in the sleeve together with the basic body (3) is pushed via the free ends of the contact pins onto the basic body (3), wherein the contact holder (2) encases the contact pins with a sealing section (11) in a gap-free, sealing manner.

A motor housing is provided on the motor behind the fan wheel and accommodates a motor electronics system. A flow duct having an inflow opening and an outflow opening is fastened to the motor behind the fan wheel such that the inflow opening is arranged offset to the outside with respect to the outflow opening. The outflow opening is oriented in such a way that an air flow which exits the outlet opening is guided onto the motor housing.

Abstract: The invention relates to a diagonal fan (30; 130) comprising a fan housing (36) and a fan wheel (80) rotatable about a rotational axis (168), an electronically commutated electric motor (73) being associated with said fan wheel. The electric motor comprises an internal stator (64) and an external rotor (152), the latter being connected to the fan wheel (80) which, on rotation thereof, serves to convey air in a main conveying direction (40) from the air intake side (178) to an air exhaust side (180). On the exterior of the fan wheel (80) fan blades (82) are provided which, in relation to the direction of rotation (84) of the fan wheel (80) in operation, have a front face (114) and a rear face (112), wherein in the region of the rear face (112) of each blade (82) a negative pressure zone (110) occurs at the fan wheel (80) during operation, which negative pressure zone is connected via an opening (90) in the fan wheel (80) to the interior (81) thereof in order to extract cooling air from said interior to the exterior. A seal arrangement (174), which in operation counteracts a pressure equalisation between the pressure (P2) on the air exhaust side (180) and the pressure (P3) in the interior (81) of the fan wheel (80), is arranged between said interior (81) and the air exhaust side (180) of the fan. At least one intake opening (154) is provided in the region of the air intake side (178) of the fan wheel (80), through which opening cooling air is able to flow into the electric motor (73); after emerging from the electric motor (73) the cooling air is extracted through the at least one opening (90) in the fan wheel (80) to the exterior of the fan wheel (80) in order to maintain a constant cooling air flow (158) in a uniform direction in operation through the electric motor (73).
